  1. Yes, I did the background check a few days after I accepted their offer. I am scheduled to go to the hospital on 1/15 for all the HR and immunization stuff. Have you scheduled your appointment yet?
  2. I agree. I'm two weeks from graduating the El Centro program and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It is beyond unorganized. Every semester we fill out a survey as to what is wrong and every semester they continue to do the same thing. I'm not real sure about Mountain View's program, but there is no way it could be any worse than El Centro.
  3. Congratulations!!! I accepted an offer as well!! I have been so busy with school, I haven't really been on here. Did they give you a start date? Mine has a tentative date of Feb 5th.
  4. Thank you so much! I really hope you hear something. Sometimes these departments take longer than expected. Praying for you as well!!
  5. I felt like it went pretty well. Everyone was really nice. However, they said they probably won't make a decision for another couple weeks. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. Have you heard anything back yet?
  6. The dean was also recently on vacation. That may have something to do with it also.
  7. Will be interviewing for the OR.
  8. I have been very impressed with everyone who works in Temple. They seem like they have a great group of nurses and managers there. My interview isn't until the 25th. Hopefully all goes well.
  9. How did your interview go?
  10. I have an in person interview scheduled for later this month.
  11. They are pretty general. Why you want to be a nurse, what specialty interests you most, talk about a time you had a difficult patient, how you multitask, etc. I think there are 6 questions in all. You can literally re-record it as many times as you want. After you have done it several times, you become a lot less nervous. Don't sweat it, it's not bad.
  12. They may be. I applied to a different specialty, so that may have something to do with it. I know of a person that graduated with her ADN about a year ago and works with one of the Dallas locations in the ED. So it's definitely worth a shot!
  13. I received an email from each location. It's difficult with an ADN, without working at one of the facilities, at least in Dallas. However, I was really impressed with Temple. I went to their New Grad Expo. Hopefully I will get called for an interview next month.
  14. I was turned down for all 3 Dallas locations I applied at. But I did a video interview this week for the Temple location.
  15. I just thought I would start a post for the BSWH's Spring 2018 Residencies. Has anyone heard anything yet? I applied for a few in Dallas and also Temple and Austin. Good luck to everyone in their application process!
  16. Not really. It was mainly just general information. We received a presentation for each specialty and then they had tables set up for each also. You could go by and ask any questions you had. It was pretty informal, and just basic info on the program. As far as Match Day, one of the educators that I spoke with, said she heard it was supposed to be 10/24. But that is the only thing I remember hearing about it, so I wasn't sure if it is already set in stone or not.
  17. I filled mine out on Friday and went to the Open House on Saturday. It sounds like Match Day may be October 24th. Did anyone else hear that? Unfortunately, I have an exam that day. Hoping I can work something out if I get called for an interview.
  18. Exactly. I just applied for the 2018 February Residency today. I will graduate this December. There is usually just a condition of the contract that you graduate and pass NCLEX to begin the residency.
  19. For the most part, you will only have classes twice a week. One day for all your lecture classes and one for your skills class. You may have to come in for the random simulations. But at least you don't have to be at school every day of the week like you do with most regular classes.
  20. confettisocks, it's funny you mention that because I joined with the student membership my first semester. I was finishing up my resume' today and made sure to put that in there!
  21. Confettisocks, good luck! I'm currently in my last semester and will be applying to various OR residencies in a couple weeks when they open up. This site, especially the perioperative forum, is invaluable! So many people with such great advice.
  22. I agree. I have just seen positions in some areas of the country that I would like to eventually work, that scrub experience is highly desired. So I was hoping to possibly get it if I could. It just seems like it is harder and harder to find.
  23. I guess you could say this is more or less a survey. I would be very curious to know if your facility or any facility that you know of includes scrub training in their new grad internships/residencies. I'm about to start my final semester of nursing school and will start applying for these positions this fall. I would like to get into travel nursing down the road. So I think having scrub experience would be beneficial. Currently where I am, most hospitals only have their nurses circulating. But I would like to go to a hospital that does both, if possible. I'm currently in a compact state, so I would have some options in moving out of state for an internship/residency. If anyone happens to know of new grad programs that have their nurses scrubbing, I would really appreciate the info. If you feel more comfortable PM'ing, that's perfectly fine also. Thanks!!
  24. I'm currently in my 3rd semester of nursing school. I would really like to get a tech position in the OR as I finish out school. Something to help set me apart from the stack of resume's they will receive by all the new grads, not to mention the obvious experience. I've applied to a couple of these in my area at the larger hospitals. However, I can't even seem to get a call back. They basically require no experience, so I'm wondering what I am doing wrong. My question is, is there a way to try and get in touch with a hiring manager directly? I'm even doing clinicals in one of the hospitals that I have applied at. I mean, I don't want to just show up on the surgery floor asking who I need to talk to, but I'm trying to be as proactive as possible. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!
  25. Just a quick question to all of you applying for GN positions. Good luck to everyone, by the way! Are you able to apply to these positions while still in school? I'm currently in 3rd semester and trying to plan out my timeline for this fall. Best of luck to everyone applying now!
