Can you guys give me an example of a day in the life of a nursing student?
Get through the first two weeks. Thats the worst because it is such a shock. However you will get into a routine and then you figure out ways to do everything and it gets easier. Also take things one week at a time and try to do your work before that week starts. Lastly just remember that if it was easy then everyone would do it. Good luck

Job market for nursing.
I wouldn't worry about it for now. Everyone talks about this so called upcoming nursing shortage. I think that once the economy picks up (and eventually it will, always does) things will perk up. A lot of the nurses who were forced to go back to work or put off retiring will eventually retire. Couple that with the massive amount of baby boomers and the fact our population seems to require more from health care, things will eventually pick up. The only downside now is that nursing schools are pumping out a lot of graduates. If your willing to travel then you have a lot of options. A well informed nurse told me that Colorado is always hiring nurses (I don't know why). Also depending on what state your in there is a nursing pact among certain states that if you reside and are licensed in a state that is a part of the group then you can work in any of the states in that group. So don't worry, nursing is still one of the best professions you can get into for a multitude of reasons, job security being one of those. So just keep going and don't let it get you down.

Are C's really the new A's in nursing school?
I think there is a belief out there that if you are an A student that you are some bookworm with no social skills. You hear that people who tend to get B's and C's are more well rounded. I do not know whether thats true or not. But the way I see it being an A student is just part of the puzzle, you need a lot more to be a good nurse/member of society. In nursing school, you have to do your best given your circumstances. If you get an A then awesome, but if you skirt by with a C and still tried your hardest then thats awesome as well. What matters is that you worked and tried...

To all the students about to start nursing school...
The original post was right on. Nursing school can be scary, time consuming, and hard but it is not as bad as some people try to make it out to be when you are going into it. The material isnt necessarily complicated, you just get slammed with alot at once. I found organization and taking things one week at a time are key. You can work on a limited basis and you can have a life. Nursing school will take priority but you will have time for family, friends, church, etc. whatever your interests are. Too be honest I really enjoy nursing school. You get to learn alot of cool stuff and meet alot of interesting people. It is very challenging, but very rewarding. Good luck to everyone starting school!

Anyone else feel this way?
I think everyone is nervous and anxious right before they start. I would just focus on getting your ducks in a row so you dont have any avoidable problems pop up during nursing school. Make sure your car is running good and your housing situation is in order, etc. And when you start just make sure and get through the first 2 weeks. The first 2 weeks are a huge shock in terms of work load and reading. I was freaking out and having nervous break downs. I know a lot of my class mates were as well. Eventually you get used to it though and get into a routine. Good luck and if your religious then just pray and have faith.

Riverside Community College FALL 2012
Congrats to everyone who got into the program at RCC. I am currently in the program. You are entering a well respected program with great faculty and excellent facilities. For those of you on stand by I know they are accepting less people for your class then they did for mine but a lot of the people in my class that were on stand by did get in so do not give up hope. Good luck to you all.

Ok. Cool. I dont register for a while so I get whatever is left. I got all my books. I've seen less books in a whole library, haha. I was thumbing through some of them. All the material looks pretty interesting. I am excited to start. And to think only 2 months ago we were all freaking out about getting in...

I just got the top rated book on Amazon. Also make sure the patch is straight. It took me a couple of times.

Riverside Community College Spring 2012 Applicants
Ok cool. Thanks everyone. I just bought them (all 13 including the drug handbook and the lab one) on Amazon. It was a little over 650. What are you all thinking about picking for your clinical? I talked to someone in the program and they said it doesn't really matter where you pick, they said you should base it on how close each hospital is to where you live. I guess it all depends on when you want clinical too.

Im 24 and I want to be a nurse badly but my age discourages me!
i wouldn't worry. i am 26 and just got accepted to the adn program i have had my heart set on. it took me 6 years to get my bachelors and at times i wondered about the decisions i made and time i might have wasted. you have to realize that things happen for a reason and there is no sense on worrying about shoulda, woulda, coulda's...... because you cant do anything about them. so just focus on the future and apply yourself. you will get discouraged along the way, that is human nature but don't let it interfere with your goals. in terms of the whole age thing i wouldnt let that discourage you. alot of the people going into nursing (from my limited experience) are older. you have people in their early 20's and people in their 40's with children. just make sure you have a good support system when you do get into nursing school......good luck!

TEAS V Online Practice Tests Like Actual Test?
I would buy the ATI book. It is the same company that administers the test. I would also purchase the online exams. They give you great practice as to how the actual test might go and they show you some of the additional stuff you might need to study that isn't in the ATI book (especially when it comes to science). I haven't taken the test yet but the ATI book seems pretty straight forward and tells you what to study and gives good examples.

Yeah the science is tough. I am pretty good with it too but it is just so broad.... Too much to memorize.
