  1. Years ago I had my favorite nurses shoes EVER...I absolutely loved them they were so comfortable. They were not expensive....they looked like knock off crocs....they had holes in the top, the holes made the shape of a flower...they were cute. I bought them at a local uniform store and they no longer have them. I cant find them ANYWHERE. Has anyone seen them or know where I can get them? I have tried other nursing shoes including Danskos I hate them. My feet are wide and swell be the end of the day. Please please let me know if you have seen these and where...thank you!!!!!!!!1
  2. I strongly agree with this! Yes girls get pregnant young and I do support birth control education but I also support education in parenting. These girls can succeed and we as nurses can be a positive influence!
  3. I work in a pediatrician office....nurses write the scripts and give them to the dr to sign....they review them first. We do call in scripts but only AFTER the dr tells us to. And this is in NY
  4. she is completely out of line! 2 weeks notice is fine!
  5. are you an LPN or RN? upstate NY
  6. I think I should have said this differently. It was not just my experience that got me through the CPNE it was my preparation. Most people who failed had been LPN's for years (one for 30 years) and felt they did not need to prepare.
  7. I have been a nurse 4 years. I have been a nurse in Labor and Delivery a little over a year....in that year I have gained 22 pounds. I started out at 135 and now weigh 157. I am so upset about this and am feeling really disappointed in myself for letting this happen. In the past I have gained 5 or 10 pounds in the past and lost it easily, this time I am having a tough time. I am only 5 ft. tall so I feel huge at this weight! I have always had a butt and thighs but this weight is in my stomach and I am so embarrassed! Every day I hate having to pick out an outfit because I feel like I look awful in anything. I am wondering if anyone else has gone through this and if anyone has any advice?
  8. if you do decide to leave go to a med surg unit and you will gain so much valuable experience that could help in labor in delivery. Busy med surg floors help you learn to organize and multitask. I currently work in labor and delivery and couldn't imagine doing it without the experience I have from the med surg unit I previously worked on. I would hope your manager would appreciate your honesty....be sincere and say maybe you made a mistake and think you should get different experience before continuing with labor and delivery. OR if you are committed to staying try to give it a year.
  9. Wow I can not believe this thread is not full!!!! Ok so I worked in retail for 7 years. I didn;t mind my job but that is all it was....a job. I realized if I was going to spend 40 hours a week somewhere then every single day when I went home I wanted to know that my job made a difference in someones life. So I became a nurse. And I got exactly what I wanted. Not one day goes by at work where I don't feel I made a difference and helped someone.
  10. We self schedule, everyone has to do 32 hours of weekend. At least half our time has to be off shift. We do 8 hours on call nights a month.....older nurses who have worked there a long time do not have to do on call
  11. thanks everyone for your advice and making me see things differently. I guess I am making a huge deal out of nothing. Its just hard when you feel tension with your boss every day. The last thing I want is to give her a reason to be mad or feel as though I went behind her back. It sucks to feel tension when the only things you have brought attention to were truly unsafe situations. Again thanks everyone for your comments.
  12. i come to this site to vent so that i do not do it at work. i am at work for one reason and that is to take care of my patients and that i do well. i am not going to worry about this anymore. cant make everyone happy. unfortunately some bosses only like those who suck up to them and never bring problems to their attention. unfortunately for me that is not me.
  13. i used to work in an ED and we used to call names. Often you have to use forst and last names. Management felt we were breeching HIPPA and we changed to pagers. They were pretty strict about not calling names.
  14. Also lla who said I ever acted disgruntled on the job? Not me. I go to work with a smile on my face and I take excellent care of my patients. With such a bog change I would think the DON would welcome feedback for what is working and what is not.
  15. Thank you all for your comments and advice I appreciate it. lla maybe I didnt explain the situation well as I was lied to. I was promised one thing and then told I could not do it for a reason that was not a reason. As I will not be doing labor orientation for at least 6 months. And I understand how frustrating it must be for a DON listening to complaints all the time but I NEVER complain unless it is something that affects patient care or jeapordizes their safety. Thats what we nurses are there for right....our patients. And as angry as anyone might get to hear the words "unsafe staffing" I will continue to use those words and advocate for all of my patients if needed.
