  1. I'm interested in how this went for you. I'm new to management and will be starting soon as manager, then moving into director role shortly after. I have director friends and just asked them about salary.
  2. I am in this situation. I am a clinical manager being hired for a Director position but will move into that title in about a year. I am also in grad school. I wanted it on paper when I accepted the offer but was told that it would be a plan that my CNO and I would work through. I trust my new CNO and workplace, so I was ok with it. I accepted this manager offer but am more concerned with my next package offer when I take the director title. I'll be learning this next year and have to hire my staff un over a year. Congratulations!
  3. I appreciate your post. Thank you for the encouragement and the advice. I will use it. I served on the education committee assisting with nurse competencies and was a preceptor. I was asked to charge on a relief basis on our extremely large and busy unit- 6,000 babies a year... We have a very experienced crew and the need to charge never came up. I charged 1-3 times a week but only for a year and ended up loving it. I did climb he ladder. I was a 4 out of 5 but working on the 5. It sparked something in me and now I want to lead. I'm wonderful with people- I love people and I'm very persistent. I somehow proved to my last employer I was the one to coordinate a facility in quality with no quality experience. I worked with upper management and I want to part of that arena. I'd take my l&d career very seriously and wouldn't want to try to manage if I wasn't ready like I did in quality. That's my problem- when do I know? I have the desire but not sure what to do to prepare myself for the role. My director friends just fell into their roles. Most of them were approached but didn't seek the position. Thank you!
  4. I curious as to what you'd look for when hiring a new Manager. I'm an OB nurse with 12 years experience. I left bedside nursing and took on a Quality position in which I coordinated 200 bed hospital. I love working with nursing and think it's very important they understand the reasoning behind our procedures and policies pertaining to Best Practice. I learned so much that I didn't know as a staff nurse and now feel I want to do more as a manager. I want to bridge the gaps and bring out the best in Nurses. I left quality. I'm applying for an OB Clinical Manager (exempt and works under the director) but I would like to become a director. I think it's more realistic to start in this role and get hands on experience while helping my director. I was active in our education committee, charged the unit and was a nurse preceptor. I worked in Quality for only 5 months. I'm ready to lead and make a move (which is why I left bedside nursing)- wondering if this is enough for a hiring director to see in me? I'm an RN, BSN. Please give me your thoughts...Thank you kindly
