  1. Hi everyone, For those of you who said you work at Ft. Defiance are you still there? Do any of you have families and if so what was the experience like living on the rez with children? Thank you
  2. Thank you for the reply! I actually know all the bigger players and there is only 1 above this position I am up for. I am looking more for the details of what to make sure you have in a contract prior to signing. Does that make sense? Thank you again!
  3. Hello community, I am interviewing for a position as a clinical director next week and I just need some help with resources in preparation for the interview. Currently I am a manager in an healthcare center so I have the experience needed in that area. What I am looking for specifically is what should I make sure my contract spells out at the new position? This is the last interview I am having for the position and thus far we discussed job duties, benefits, salary and flexible scheduling to allow me to continue current outside positions such as the various boards I am on. This position will be starting out as one thing and next summer will grow to include my skills as a APN as I will be graduating graduate school at that time. I want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row for what I will need in this new position but I feel like I am missing something. Has anyone ever moved up in the ranks from manager to clinical director and if so I would love some advise! Thank you!
  4. we are in the inner city so very different than what the rural FQHC's deal with. Sounds very interesting what you experienced for sure. I often debate on moving out to the middle of no where and working at a rural site but right now I like my city vibe.
  5. Hello everyone, I would love to connect to others out there working in FQHCs. This is my first experience working in one and I would really like someone to compare notes with. If there are any managers out there I have questions regarding staffing and scopes of practice. Any MAs out there I would love to hear about what your role in the FQHCs are. We utilize MAs and I am increasing their duties because I felt they had more skills than taking VS. Any others - what is your role in a FQHC? Thanks
  6. Thank you for the suggestions. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I just put Good to Great on the reserve list at my library. I will have to look for the Clinical 5S book.
  7. We actually have to choose three articles, then submit our papers through an online process to have it checked for authenticity against other papers, publishers, and various institutions across the world. You have to have a certain % of authenticity before you can submit your paper to the class for peer review. If you fall below that % you have to start over. If you are above the % you then turn your paper in for peer reviews. It sounds very similar to your institution. I didn't understand your posting about if I am very nice you will share your resources with me. Sounds like you are very accomplished with your published paper. That feels wonderful doesn't it? I have had three of my writings get published in various books and I am honored that they selected me. I can't answer about what other schools require with regards to their papers. I graduated from Thomas Jefferson with my BSN and we always had to submit multiple articles, and now that I am graduate school at UMDNJ they also request the same.
  8. I am far to new into the program to decide how it is yet. The first class was research and it was brutal. Main in part because the instructor was traveling so not really available. I still pulled a "A" in the class though so I was happy about that. I am holding off on Patho right now because I am super busy at work so it wouldn't be a smart move to take it right now. BTW I have experience. I was a ASN and just completed my BSN. In addition I have been in the field approx 25 years as a case manager. So newer nurse, but not new and I know the field. That helps a lot.
  9. I am new ambulatory care manager and I would love it if someone can provide an resources for this position. Are there magazines devoted to this job, or great books someone has read on the subject? Right now it's very overwhelming because I am coming from a in patient setting where I was a manager but out patient physicians office is a whole new world.
  10. I didn't take the PMHNP exam. I took the exam for RN-BC. I am just entering my second course in the NP program so I have a long way until then. Good luck to you though! How proud you must be to have completed UPenns program. I am at UMDNJ.
  11. Thank you for replying. I guess my confusion comes in as how can an MA pass meds and do IMs without come sort of certification? I know people use MAs in these capacities but it just seems like there has to be more to this. If I as a RN train a MA to place and read a PPD, as long as the MD on site states that is OK then we are good? I thought there would be a certification course of some sort of training they would need to take part in. Does anyone reading this use MAs in this capacity in the state of NJ?
  12. Hello all, I am an ambulatory care manager in NJ and I have a question regarding scope of practice. This is the first time working in Jersey so I am trying to learn the lay of the land. Can someone guide me to the state regulations on scope of practice for a medical assistant and a LPN? Also, I have a MA on staff and I want to increase her scope of practice but not sure what additional training she would need. Anyone know of any technical training or certification courses that a MA could attend to become certified in giving IMs like vaccines, or assisting with medication passes? Are they permitted to do these things in NJ? Thank you
  13. Well it would have been nice of me to answer your questions a lot sooner huh! So sorry that it took me so long to get back to you. So many things just jumped up in life and time got away from me. YES YES YES I passed! I am officially board certified! The test wasn't really as bad as I thought it was going to be. I didn't think it was nearly as bad as NCLEX but then again I had never taken anything like NCLEX which totally overwhelmed me so perhaps now things like this are not as big as that first step into nurseyhood. There were a lot of theories, groups, and milieu questions for sure. I thought there would be more pharm questions but not a lot. I also recently completed my BSN and was accepted into NP school. I start this summer. I am going for my PMHNP. I am also going to prepare for the CARN exam. I think I will take that in October. Hope all of you are well! Sorry again for taking so long to get back to everyone.
  14. Can some of you share what resources you are using for nursing group ideas? I have been using Life Skills but I just feel like there has to be other resources out there better suited for an adult acute population. I would love to hear what everyone else is using. Peace- Zen
  15. Don't waste your time becoming a substance abuse counselor. The pay is horrible and you would be working below your license. In addition, you really have to have a lot of clinical hours to be a CADC or any other type of cert in the field. The best thing to do is like another poster suggested and step into a psych job. I work on an acute psych unit and I would say that 80% if not higher of the patients we see are poly sub. It's a nice way to get into the field. Personally I prefer the psych unit than the substance abuse unit because you get a more diverse experience. I worked at a treatment facility before and it was really a lot of just doing meds, admissions, and discharges. As a psych nurse I do all of that but I have more hands on care with my patients. I run groups and can choose the topics so I can do a substance abuse group when I need to depending on the population on the unit. Have you tried looking for government jobs? The Veterans Administration has behavioral health positions at a lot of their facilities. They are also really big on education so once you have your time in with them they will pay for you to advance your education which can include obtaining your CARN. To get your CARN you need 3 years direct addictions nursing. You can get that experience on a psych unit. I will be sitting for my CARN soon and I just obtained my psych mental health board cert and I qualify for both of them from my experience on an acute psych unit. Don't give up - you just need to knock on the right door! Where are you located?
