Alphabet Soup of a Title
Maybe someone can clarify this for me. I have a coworker that has RN & IBCLC in her alphabet soup, but signs her title as Advanced Practice Lactation Nurse. She has a ADN and I verified with her state that she does not have an Advance Practice license. We I asked her about her title, she stated that being an IBCLC was the equivalent of a Master’s degree. Am I going nuts here or do theses titles not match up?

Will UTAs program accept me if my science GPA is a 3.25?
I think it depends on a few factors. It’s been quite some time since I applied there, but I know that they have “considerations” on acceptance. One of them was if you took 3 out of your 4 sciences from them. If you are a transfer student, then I would definitely retake it. If not, I would probably still plan on retaking it eventually. I would also apply to other local schools. UTA denied me as a transfer student with a 3.75 science and cumulative GPA about 7 years ago.

I can't answer your question, but was wondering if you chose to go with this program and if you could share any experiences?

Military PCS to Japan
That's sucks on the job hunt. I was wondering about a work from home position as well if spots weren't available at the hospital. Looks like I'll more than likely be out there in May. We should definitely get together.

UTA BSN program
It's been a few years since I applied, but it was harder to get in as a transfer student. I had a 3.75 science and cumulative GPA and was told no 2 times and a 3rd time that I didn't even apply for. You increase your chances with "considerations" such as taking 3 out of your 4 sciences from UTA or previously having a bachelors from them. I know a girl that got into the program with her considerations and she had a 3.2 cumulative GPA and a 3.5 Science GPA. If your GPA is lower than a 2.7, then you will definitely need to retake some classes. They let you retake to replace your grade up to a certain amount. Maybe 3 or 4 I believe. There are also a few loop holes where you can retake a different class to substitute a grade of another class that is in the same category such as art appreciation for drawing I. Also apply to multiple programs. Good Luck!

Military PCS to Japan
Next year, our family will be PCSing to a new location that is not set in stone at this time. It will be his last tour before he retires and we want to go somewhere exciting. Now that it's getting closer, Japan keeps being brought up and I'm a little scared to go. I just passed my NCLEX and will be starting as an RN later this month. I do not want to work so hard to obtain this achievement just to sit on my butt and not use it. There is a hospital on base and I keep hearing conflicting stories about them not hiring Americans versus that they give spouses preference to hiring. Can anybody shed some light on his situation? Has anybody had any experience about working internationally in a hospital on an American military base? Or has anybody been stationed in Okinawa or worked in the hospital there?

breaking your RN New Grad contract early
Do all new grad nurse positions require a contract? I'm in the predicament that My husband will be relocated due to the military 10 months after my graduation, but I want to get some sort of experience in that timeframe.

My mom just bought me a super nerdy watch that looks like a scrap book project. It's the thought that counts, but it's a leather band and I'm afraid it would get ruined.

I did everything at home and then used the cutePDF program (it's free) to convert the documents into a PDF. Then I emailed everything to myself to print later. I hope this helps. 😊

I applied and got an interview, but the ADN program is my first choice. Have you emailed Tammy? I think that she is the secretary for that DMS program.

They only thing that has come to my mailbox today is a woman questioning my entry to heaven while waking my son up from his nap. I'd prefer a bill. Today is going to take forever, but maybe doing some homework will pass the time.

Patient Care Tech. You can either take classes and be certified as one or complete your first semester of clinicals in a nursing program.

Weatherford ADN Fall 2015
Oh and my interview was... Meh... Awkward. I'm out of practice, my heart wasn't in it, and it was very intimidating. There were about 8 or 9 people encircled around the room just staring at you with one person asking questions. I can't believe I answered on of the questions, "You just have to suck in up." Ugh!! 😧 I was more excited to introduce myself to KL. Thankfully that went over 10x better than the interview.

Weatherford ADN Fall 2015
I just looked up what the qualifications for an RN at Weatherford Regional was and it said an Associates. Some in downtown Ft. Worth state that a BSN is preferred. Don't let it get you down and that was extremely rude of her. When I took Intro to Nursing at UTA, they said that some areas are transitioning to hire only BSN. NY is supposed to be making the BSN only transition by 2020. I'm going to attempt to get hired on as a PCT after the first semester as well to help my resume after graduation. If we can't get hired on with our Associates then it will be more motivation to attend the RN to BSN ASAP, which is your plan anyways. All we can do is persevere to reach our ultimate goals.
