I haven't started looking for scholarships or grants yet but hope there are some just for older students. I missed the financial aid cut off for the community college I'm going to attend - it was back in May and I decided recently to go ahead and do this - so will look for next year. The pre-reqs I'll take before then I'll just have to pay for. Yes - it's not just the 20 yr olds who need financial help - if you're going for a second career, as I am - I have so many household expenses that a younger person probably doesn't have - could use some financial help.

Mt Hood Community College is about 15 miles east of Portland. They offer the LPN>RN program but apparently not for 2012. Next one is 2013. Here's a link to their info page. Look about halfway down on the left. http://www.mhcc.edu/LRadmissions/

Coincidentally, this afternoon I met someone at the bank today who took the online chem class from this professor, and she raved about it. Said it was excellent, the professor was very helpful and accessible before the lab and during other office hours. The online part is a mix of video and powerpoint. Made me feel confident enough to switch to that one. Thanks for your thoughts. Nice to find this forum.

Hi, I'm glad I found this forum. I'm just about to start my first term in pre-nursing classes. I work full-time and am 50 yrs old - this will be a second career for me. I have a liberal arts BA and haven't taken any chemistry classes since high school. (many years ago !!!) I'm first on the wait list for a regular, in-person chemistry class and the advisor said I'll probably get in. The class is large - 60+ students - so not much personal interaction with the teacher. With my job schedule I can squeeze it in. Two class days plus a 4 hour lab every week. I thought about taking it online but the online class was full with many waitlisted. The online class still requires that I go to a 4 hour lab once a week. Now they've just opened a second online class that I could get into. I have to decide within a couple of days. I'm sure it will fill up quickly. Chemistry is probably the class that worries me the most - not sure which way to go - any advice? Thanks for your help.
