  1. I got an email back when I responded. I see it blocked out who I said I responded to on this thread. If you want to email me directly, I can tell you who I sent the email to. My email is [email protected].
  2. I responded to that email from ****** about orientation. I just checked my twu email and I got the one that says my first 2 classes will be pathology and theory. Are those the same for you?
  3. Well if you find any information out about registration, orientation, etc., let me know.
  4. Yeah, I’m not sure if they have a particular course order we need to follow, or if we just sign up for what’s open. I’m not sure if I’ll do PT or FT, guess it depends on how much time we have to spend on campus. Do you have any idea on how much of the program is online vs in the classroom?
  5. I have questions too. I don’t know if we accept anything either. I called to find out about orientation and some lady told me it was at 9 on 11/12. Did they tell you that as well? The lady didn’t sound very confident in her answer. I emailed Dr ***** to verify that and to ask if we register after orientation, but she hasn’t responded. ?
  6. I was recently accepted to the WHNP program at TWU's Dallas campus. I was wondering if there are any other Dallas campus future NP students out there that will be starting in Spring of 2020?
  7. Informatics?
  8. If money isn’t an issue, take the L&D job. I’ve worked in PP, and I don’t feel like what you learn there applies to the bulk of midwifery. Now if you take the PP job and have opportunities to float to Antepartum, that might be helpful.
  9. Dallas/Ft Worth area
  10. I applied to this program as well. I didn't submit reference letters or a resume. I think it did ask for my job experience while filling out the application, but that's about it. I asked my friend who just finished their FNP program and she didn't remember having to submit anything but the transcript. I don't know about you, but I haven't received anything from the school. Guess I'll just wait an see if I get something via email or regular mail.
  11. Do any of the WHNPs here work in fertility medicine? If so, could you share any insight on how you "broke into" this area specialty of nursing/medicine. TIA

Hey experienced school nurses I need some guidance. This is my first year at a school and myself and the other 3 newbies in the district are so clueless. Amongst one of the things that we are clueless about, is a list of supplies that are a must have in the clinic. I know this probably differs from nurse to nurse and school to school, but could y'all give me suggestions that I could use to compile a list for us inexperienced nurses? We are all at either Elementary or Middle schools. Thanks in advance.

I've recently begun working in a Mother/Baby unit. While it is leaps and bounds better than where I came from (Neuro/Telemetry), I don't know that I could see myself staying here for 5 or 10 plus years. I've always been interested in L&D (but we all know it can be hard to get in to), as well as at some point maybe going for my CNM. I know I'll be in Mother/Baby for at least a year so that I can get my IBCLC. Do you think I should stick it out for 2 years so I could get my certification, or if I decide L&D is where I want to be, try moving to that department after a year? While I think I could probably get into L&D at my current hospital a little easier than a new grad, I would still have to go through a residency (which is a big commitment and a 2 year contract). Any advice from both specialties is welcome.
  14. I thought about doing that in the past. Do you think it would really help? I'm totally open to the idea.
  15. I really want to move into Women's but my only experience is in Telemetry, so I'm getting passed over for RN I positions posted. Well, now I'm getting turned down for Women's Internships because I have over a year of experience working as an RN. I feel like this is ridiculous. Did anyone else have a really difficult time transitioning into Women's?
  16. Sorry if this is in the wrong spot. I need some advice on possible locations to relocate to. I currently live in Texas, but I've always hated the weather here. I'm looking for a town/city that has: 4 seasons A good job market Affordable housing market Family friendly (especially good schools) I love Colorado and Washington, but neither of those places have particularly affordable housing in the good school districts. Does anyone have any places they really love that might meet these criteria?
  17. I wasn't asked any scenario type questions.
  18. I don't know if they are going to start doing contracts. They might since they are transitioning from Internships to Residencies. I think the time on the floor helped prepare me, but the class days were less helpful.
  19. Thanks for updating that positions were posted! I actually went through an internship with Baylor not too long ago. I can't really remember the specific questions I was asked though. The recruiter who called to screen before offering an actual interview with a manager asked me a lot of the generic questions. Things like "why nursing" "how do you handle stressful situations/angry customers" "how do you manage your time" etc. My actual manager really just talked about the unit.
  20. Does anyone know when Baylor (DFW area) posts internships on their website for the class that begins in June?
  21. I am a single mom with no help besides my mom and I just graduated in May and got offered a job yesterday. Yes you will miss out on things, but nursing school isn't going to take over your whole life. I think the financial sacrifices were harder on me than studying/class/clinicals, etc. You can do it.
  22. I have an interview scheduled for an internship on a med/surg floor . While this isn't my first choice (I eventually want women's services), I need experience as I'm a new grad. So here's the question, how do I answer a question like "What areas of nursing interest you?" or "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" If I'm honest my answer is going to be working in L&D and/or starting a masters program in midwifery. But I think answering honestly might hurt my chances at landing a job.
  23. I've applied twice (ha) and haven't heard anything yet.
  24. Good Morning, I am contimplating going back to school to be a nurse in the near future, and was wondering if anyone is willing to share any expectations I should have about choosing this as my career? Realistically, how many hours does one work a week, what are the shift times like, what is the pay like (if you're comfortable sharing), how hard is it to get into your preferred speciality (I'd like to L&D)? Any information is appriciated. I just don't want to go into this with rose colored glasses. I am also a single mother with no other parent in the picture, so am I crazy for wanting to go into nursing?
