After 10 years of trying to complete an RN program with kids, work and other obligations. I had to move nearly 700 miles away from a place I called home (Atlanta, GA) for 14 years to Cleveland, Ohio where I got 'er done in 18 months. I am currently waiting to sit for my NCLEX-RN. It all started here on ALLNURSES where I changed my screen name. I have 16 years of experience in Senior Living, from working in the facility as a Wellness Director to an Executive Director to my last position as the Corporate Director of Resident Care. Now that I will be an RN, I am now being recruited by several companies who know my work. However, I feel like the RN just gives me the ability to cast my net wider, as I have experienced in Operations, Regulatory, Start-up, Technical Initiatives and more. I am wanting to become a Nurse Consultant for Senior Living Companies. I need insight on Website Design and Marketing. There is a need, as my last company hired an RN to do things that the State of Georgia required that the employees simply could not do effectively with their other responsibilities. Any insight would be appreciated. Lastly, I am also interested in starting a small Post Operative Cosmetic Surgical Home Care business too and I really need help. Thanks for your time.

Hello: I am currently an 14 year LPN who will start an ADN program in January which bridges into a BSN program when I attain my RN. I do missions work in Central America and God's favor allowed me to work as a Corporate Director of Resident Care where I was blessed with Partner shares. The position was originally written for an RN, but I served in the position for 4 years. Hello: I am in the process of looking at Hondros and Bryant and Stratton ADN programs for January 2015. I am relocating from Atlanta, GA to Cleveland, Ohio. I am currently an LPN with my original license in Ohio. I was told and checked through both Nationally Accredited Boards to the ADN program is not nationally accredited, but their BSN program is nationally accredited.

Thanks CLUVLPN!!! I am thinking of purchasing a Condo/Townhome, which I can use as either a vacation home or rental later on. It will be cheaper to do this, as opposed to paying $800 a month. I want to relocate anyway from Georgia and have friends that have relocated to Florida and absolutely love it. How are your Clinicals? Do you feel that AFNHO is preparing your to be competitive as an entry-level RN? My RN will be used to enhance my career, which having an RN can boost my salary up to 20K depending on the company, as well as will allow me to do some business opportunities I have been interested in that require an RN. I don't ever see myself working in a Hospital long-term. It would be nice to hear from others if there are other non-traditional schools. I don't have all my pre-requisites, so I like the idea that I can complete them at AFNHO. What are the average educational degrees of your instructors? Thanks

Good Morning Ladies: I know this is a God thing that I stumbled across your page. I am currently 39 years old with a son who is a Junior at GATECH and a son who resides in Ohio and a Senior in High School. I have been a Mother since I was 18 years old and have worked relentless to provide a great life for my boys and to beat the statistical odds that are stacked up against teenage mothers. I have been an LPN since 1999 and I have tried to go to school so many times, but because of my job and kids I haven't been able to. I am now ready to live for me and get my RN. I live in Georgia, but because of where I am at in my life, I can relocate. I am currently working for a Senior Living Company as a Clinical Director and make beyond a great salary, even as an LPN. My position was created for an RN, but I earned it and have been successful in my current position for 3 years. I want to know more about this program and do you think it is a great stepping stone to get your RN and then to continue. I would like to become a FNP specializing in Geriatrics, which is truly needed in Senior Living. I just can't let another year go by and keep talking about my RN. I paid for the Distant Learning Systems study program which prepares you for Excelsior, but in the State of Georgia you will owe Georgia up to 630 Precept Hours, which is absolutely insane. Is there anyone here that has relocated to attend AFNHO? If so, any ideas on living arrangements? Also, are there any other Non Traditional RN Programs in FL, similar to this one. I graduated from a Non Traditional LPN Program in 1999 and NCLEX at the top 1% percentile, so I know this type of program. My LPN program was rigorous, I went to school M-F 9am to 5pm, plus Clinicals and Precepts on Saturdays or Sundays. I read about the program not being NLN Accredited, but if you look at the FBON website only about 1/4 of the ADN programs are NLN Accredited. Does anyone know anything about the classes transferring into a BSN/MSN program? Any insight is helpful, even on other similar schools.

Hello: I am an LPN of 14 years currently working as a corporate clinical director of a senior living company. I am planning to relocate to Aldie, VA or South Florida.. I have decided to not work but rather pursue my RN or even BSN. I am seeking direction on which schools in the So Florida area have accredited LPN Bridge Programs. I dont have all of my prerequisites and it would be nice to be able to take the pre reqs at the same school if possible. Any advice would be helpful. God Bless.

Hello: I am relocating to the Virginia or DMV area to finish my RN. I have been in communication with Career Training Solution in Fredericksburg and heard some pretty good things about them. I've checked with the VABON and found they have a 98% NCLEX pass rate. Does anyone know about this school? Or, any other school with a rolling admissions process in the DMV. Thank you.

Good Morning: I am an LPN and I am currently in school to become an RN. I also work full time as a Regional Clinical Director for a nursing home management company. I know as an RN the skies are the limit in regards to being an entrepreneurs in nursing. However, I believe that true wealth and opportunity is never defined by one's title, but rather than one's commitment and tenacity to the ministry of nursing. I would like to get ideas of on opportunities for LPNs as entrepreneurs. Please share with any additional guidance. Hi Bella: Thank you!!! I am an LPN and in school to receive my RN. However, I am moving forward with my CNA Training Program in Georgia. I thank you for this post, as I didn't even think about how or where to get equipment. Did you send a letter out to vendors, suppliers, etc? How did you get set up to receive students who may be a part of state return 2 work program, reentry programs, etc. I live in Georgia. Blessings to you and your mom.

Hello: In the State of Georgia, from what I am reading (if this is not correct, someone please feel free to correct), you can start an CNA program, but will need to have at least 1 RN listed as your Program Coordinator. I am starting a program in GA. Blessings to you.

Thank you. If anyone have verbiage which should be used in the policy and procedure please inbox me. We have a great call system accompanied with 1 hour support checks of each resident. Our calls will roll over to management phones if they are not answered within 7 minutes. We start talking to staff upon calls greater than 10 minutes, and most times they immediately started care when they go to the room and neglected to reset the call box upon entering the room. I appreciate the feedback.

Hi: I just got promoted as the Regional Clinical Services Director for our 15 facility Assisted Living/Memory Care company. It is a new position and I have been in it for about 2 weeks and it was lonnnnnnnnnnng overdue. I have grown really concerned with some of our basic systems not being either implemented or fully executed in our facilities. We have seen an increase in citations over the last year, which I now know is because of the facilities not properly rolling out corporate systems. One of the things I want to do, is ensure that my monthly to bimonthly facility visits are focused, have a purpose and over time will yield positive results. I want to know if anyone has any audit forms or facility visit forms which I can use (hey I am not trying to reinvent the wheel) and add specifics for our company. The areas of focus are: Resident Care Assessments (timeliness, completion) Charting (I have been horrified with what I have seen...or should I say the lack there of) Policy Implementation and Execution I hope there's a form that I can track concerns, accolades, progress and need for corrective action. Good Evening: We are in the planning stages of implementing a Orthopaedic Respite Care program at the suggestion of several prominent Orthopaedist in our area. We are an Assisted Living Community who has a fully operable Outpatient Therapy program within our community and a partnership with a Home Health Company to handle our skilled Nursing needs. The short of the long is we provided Respite care for 21 days for a Total Hip Replacement patient who was being discharged back to her personal home with Outpatient PT/OT. The patient is 82 years old, fairly independent and lives along and her family decided they didn't want her to recover at home alone. Her surgeon ordered for her therapist to work with her in our community 72 hours post op and we provided room, board, meals, socialization and oversight. The patient was able to do her own Lovenox injections, so the surgeon did not order Home Health (ALFs in Georgia cannot administer any injections, except Epinephrine and Insulin). The patient recovered so well under our care and partnership of those involved, that the surgeon referred her to us for her second replacement in August. Now, we are having surgeons inquiring if we will be willing to respite their residents. It took us a lot of time to coordinate her care, as this was new to us. We are seeing three times more patients have Ortho surgery and coming home. Our facilities have both LPN/RN's on staff and on call 24 hours a day and can meet the needs of any resident that doesn't require 24 hour skilled nursing care. We meet the State's regulation by partnering with Home Health providers and Hospice to meet the temporary skilled needs of our residents. So, now I've been charged with quickly creating a program that will ensure we are providing high quality care and services to patients who are receiving after care in our facility. I wanted to know if there is a Clinical Pathway or process which we should be following for an Ortho patient who is discharged home? We will be involved in the perioperative process as well, as it is important for us to establish the resident's baseline, assess post operatively to ensure their needs can be met in our facility. Hi, I am an LPN and currently work as an Administrator of an Assisted Living Facility. I make GREAT money, but understand because I do not hold a degree or RN, I might be stuck in this position. I am currently enrolled in Colorado Technical University Online AS Medical Billing and Coding, which will roll into my BSBA in Healthcare Management program next year. I chose Medical Billing and Coding, because I felt like it would be a great opportunity for me to possibly work from home and have another stream of income. I'm really into wealth building and believe that one must have several avenues of income to reach financial security. I want to know are there any LPN/RN's who have home based billing or coding business? I want to get your feedback? Are you contracting or working independently? How many hours a week? And any other information you will supply. I plan to pursue my RN through Pratt College, however, I had to put on hold this year, after hearing the boards decision on distance learning. I was unsure if Pratt would be exceptable. Thanks

Hi: I am currently working as a Administrator of an Assisted Living Facility. I've just been recently promoted to a facility that is undergoing a 40 million dollar expansion, which will include a brand new state of the art Alzheimer's and Dementia Care neighborhood. Over the last year, I've noticed the caliber of CNA's has declined considerably. I worked as a CNA Instructor and I was appalled by the course structure, lack of supplies, books and uniforms. This school was charging almost 1000 for a CNA/PCT certification. I am now being faced with new CNA's who only provide care as keeping a resident, clean, fed, dry and up. No, ideals on socialization or person centered care. I am an LPN and understand that I might have to partner with an RN, and also take the Train the Trainer Course sponsored by Georgia Community Health Portal. My question/s is this: 1. Does anyone know the number or link to find out about the next Train the Trainer Course at GACHP? 2. Is an RN Licensure needed to start a CNA training program? 3. Has anyone come across any refrence guides, how-to programs on starting a CNA/PCT training program? 4. Does anyone on this board have experience and wouldn't mind sharing on how to get started? 5. Does anyone know how to receive payment from Welfare to Work progams, if their participants attend? I also thought with the economy, this would be an excellent alternative to retrain individuals in a rewarding career, which could act as a stepping stone to other healthcare careers. I cant believe we are finally in the planning stages of opening a Personal Care Home (MMDD first, then Seniors) as well as Non Medical Home Care Division (for Seniors). I have the workings of a great business plan already. I am doing my due diligence (market analysis, census, county stats, etc). I am wondering has anyone come across a good inexpensive start up Non Medical Home Care guide, preferably an e-book. Also, where do I get all my forms from. I do not want to take forms from my employer...not cool. Im all about not reinventing the will. K.I.S.S. Thanks

Wow, Thanks so much for your response, I actually went to the Office Of Human Recourses today to get the Personal Home Care Provider Application Packet, which included their state regulations. I need to have a full understanding of what is required and if an LPN is able to "collect data". Since, they provide non-medical services, I thought it would be okay, but you are right I need to do my homework, as to not cause any issues with my license. I also thank you for not getting into the whole RN/LPN saga, I am so over that, but definitely understood the need to make the correlation between the LPN's sow and the RN's sow. As for the fee, I think $50 to $75 would be fair, and is right in there with my former salary. Take care and thanks again.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't think I needed to be certified in "anything" to do an assessment. The company has a personal home care division that does private duty sitter type services for their clients nothing medical. I reviewed their clients medication list, reviewed all systems, took his vitals, spoke with caregiver about daily routine and set up a service plan for current and future caregivers. This is required by the state of GA every 90 days according to the owner. My question about phlebotomy/iv certification had nothing to do with the assessment, I just would like to increase my skill set. Sorry to have confused you, I tend to write slower then what my thoughts are. Take care.

Although, I started a Real Estate Investment Company which we are doing unbelievably well and I joined a business opportunity that will allow me to make my above salary monthly in Real Estate in about 90 days, effortlessly, my first and true passion is Nursing. I was contacted over the weekend by a private owner of a Personal Care Service business (they do non medical private duty care, adl's, companion etc.) to do an assessment for them. I did it yesterday and have no idea what to bill for. Today, I woke up with 2 messages from other owners, which the job I did yesterday referred them to me. Any suggestions? PS. Does anyone know where I could brush up on my phlebotomy skills and possibly become IV/Phlebotomy certified if that is a requirement in Georgia.

Good Morning: I am a Wellness Services Director and just received a promotion to the Associate Executive Director. I started in Assisted Living in 2000 for Marriott and made $16.00 p/h...when I moved to Atlanta I made $18.00 p/h. I am 32 y/o I am now making close to $52000 plus commission. I would say try to stay $15 to $18. Hope this helps.
