I would not practice on family. When I was in nursing school I used a pool noodle for practice with my skill check. It is more about learning muscle memory and set up. In real life I work in the ED get tons of practice there. I am really good with IV, EJ, IO and ultrasound insertion. Let me recommend this, for me it is all about being able to feel the vein. I joke I could insert one in the dark. Use your family to feel for veins with out a tourniquet. I have one vein in my daughters I can feel from just above her thumb and palpate it all the way past her AC. If you can't feel the vein, it does not matter really sick patients usually have multiple comorbids (HF, DM, CKD, Septic, hepatic issues), a lot of their veins are not going to pop out at you and scream for attention.

Hello, I am in the FNP program at Northern Arizona University, I am desperately looking for a FNP Preceptor for Summer 2020. I live in North Phoenix and am willing to travel (<2 hours preferably). I have sent out letters, called everyone I know or have known without any success, even did some cold calling. I am getting pretty desperate at my lack of responses. I have even looked into websites where you pay to have a preceptor, but I can not figure out how reliable they are. If anyone is willing or knows a potential preceptor in the Phoenix are, I would be very interested.

i don't know how they are going to do them when you start (i mean they could completely change it around). but when i was in block 1 (spring 2012) we had a health assessment class. we met one day a week, and talked/practiced what ever we were learning that week and then wrote up our findings (they were not graded). we got to know our class mates really well, enjoy yourself and it will be better. we had a total of three papers that were basically wright ups on our head to toe examinations. pretty much writing what you practiced in class and we turned them into our in class instructor. don't stress it, you will do fine. the online portion of that class, consisted of multiple choice questions from the readings. we used a book by jarvis. i got the ebook through elsevier. lots easier than lugging around a heavy book. also when you are taking the tests on line, we could use our book, and pageburst (elsevier's ebooks) has a great search option, so i didn't have to go throughout the book, flipping like mad. i was not and ebook textbook person before and i swear by them now, and wish pageburst would offer every textbook. (it's nice because you can do a general search. for example i can type in diabetes, and it will look through all my ebooks for me and show me where it is. saves crazy amount of time. i got the bundle books through the book store, so a lot of my books came both physical copy and e book. i highly recommend it, it's like google for your textbooks and spend some time getting used to it, it will be a life saver.) ok the on line classes we are taking this summer, gerontology, palliative care and nursing research, are keeping us busy, but so far haven't killed me (it's only week 2, so there is still time). we have a lot of posts, responding to posts, papers, and stuff like that. but remember we are not putting a man on the moon, if you got this far you can do this. if you can do 201, 202 and micro online, and make sense of it, you will be fine. please don't stress. it was that fear of the unknown that used to drive me crazy. if you need something to keep you busy in the mean time my block 1 teacher recommended a book:[h=1]fundamentals success: a q&a review applying critical thinking to test taking (davis's q&a succes)[/h] isbn-10: 0803627793 | isbn-13: 978-0803627796 i of course never had time to read it during block one, because i was in block one, but my teacher swears by it. it talks about how to understand the questions, they are written weird especially if you have never seen them before. you will do fine, i found that most of what i stressed about before school, and the first couple of weeks, was in retrospect very minor.

Block 1 went well. A lot of work. But you will do fine. I am in the NAU CEP. Our NAU class during block 1 was fine also. And compared to Block 1, little to no stress. I hear that Block 2 is challenging, more patho, but some of us like patho. You will like NUR 330. When we took it we had a lot of papers due. They were mostly subjective, so unless you don't have an opinion or you don't use spell check you will do fine in there as well. Just try to enjoy it. A positive attitude will make all the difference. Good Luck!

Hi. Thanks for the craigslist info. I couldn't find any of the books this time, maybe next semester I will be luckier. I ended buying them on Amazon for about half of the bookstore price. My Louie account today had me registered for class. YEAH! see you next week.

Hi KC1986, I am in the CEP program at GCC. I will be starting Nur 330 on the 29th as well. I was wondering if you are actually enrolled in the class? When I sent an email to Stephanie she said that they would be placing everyone together, and I am still not enrolled. Did you sign up yourself, or did they do it for you? I don't want to bother her if I don't have to. I have already been accepted into NAU, so I am just waiting. Also, did you get your books? If yes, where did you get them? And do you know if Hood's book is an ebook? (it looks like it might be)

Hi, I was wondering if anyone is actually registered for NUR 330 yet? I was accepted into the CEP at GCC and I had already applied and have been accepted into NAU, but when I check LOUIE I am still not registered for NUR 330. I sent ---- an email when I received my acceptance email into the program and she said that they were going to enroll everyone at once, but I am still not enrolled. The class schedule does show that 30 of the 80 spots are taken at the north valley extended campus. Has anyone bought their books yet?

Wow! The drive won't be so bad. Either way you go, 101 or I 17 the traffic in the morning hours in that direction should not be that bad. I have taken classes at both the North and the Main campus. I really enjoyed both locations. I have been very fortunate to have had both; really amazing teachers and fellow students in my classes. I know you will like it. I am not taking any classes right now, and I am going out of my mind. I took 230 and 240 late last spring through Rio. I really liked developmental psy. I found stats to be alright. I might have liked it more in person. I got an email today from Maricopa Nursing, saying I have been placed for Spring 2012! I haven't heard anything about the NAU class yet. Hopefully we will hear something soon.

righthebell, I AM in the GCC CEP Spring cohort as well. I am so glad to talk to someone else who is going to GCC next semester. I am very excited but very nervous. Did you go to GCC last semester? What two classes are you taking this semester? How exciting!

ASHR, I wish I could tell you how many people applied (I had that exact same question), but I can tell you what I know (or at least what I think I know). When I went to the May review, I was told it would be better for me to wait and apply in June. Because by the June session my last two classes would be finished and my application would be complete. During the June session I did ask a couple of your same questions. By the time I turned in my application, they had only taken a handful of COMPLETED applications. (I wish I could remember the exact number, but I think it was somewhere around fifteen to twenty.) The GPA they require is 3.0, but when I asked about the average accepted GPA she said that it was closer to 3.5 or higher. I don't know how accurate that really is, I think we all know a lot of people who are smarter than their GPA and vise versa. Since you are wondering my GPA is 3.69. I also asked her if they would be rounding up, and she just smiled. HESI minimum score required is 75% in English and Math. My scores are; English 86.26% and Math 100% with a cumulative score of 89.70% I also had two letters of recommendation when I submitted my application. Both of them were in sealed envelopes that were signed across the seal. The one impression that I walked away with is that basically they would have two stacks of applications; one stack of completed applications and one stack where students might be missing credits, letters of recommendations, transcripts, etc. The stack of completed applications would be reviewed first, which makes sense, those students have already meet all the requirements. Maybe this is why some people found out if they were accepted before others. So a better question might be; "How many completed applications were received versus incomplete?" and "How many students were selected out of each stack?" I think "statistically" (I just took that class so I like to use that word when I can) your chances would be better in the completed stack versus the incomplete stack. So make sure that you have all your ducks in a row when it comes time to turn yours in, that in itself might increase your odds. However as every semester passes and more students finish their pre/co-requisites, that completed stack will probably get bigger and I more competitive. So, I would guess, that with time, the average accepted students GPA will get higher. I wish you the best of luck!

I got an acceptance letter for the NAU cohort via email on Friday the 19th in the afternoon. Has anyone else been accepted into GCC/NAU? Has anyone received their contract for enrollment via email or regular mail? Eish- my time stamp was June 2010, but I don't believe that they even considered your time stamp.

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has any insight on how the application session went today. Did they give any inclination as to when they would make their decisions? Did you ever get an answer about if NET/HESI scores expire? Finally, did anyone mention how many applications they had accepted? I went to the session in May, but didn't submit my application until June, after I finished my last two classes. At the June session it did not appear that they had accepted a lot of completed applications. I am so anxious to find out, I can't stand it. My time stamp is May 2010, so I figure if I don't make it I will have at least a year to wait. I am done with all of my classes, and I am afraid of being bored to death. Thanks.
