Lonestar Spring 2012 Hopefuls
Oh poop! I am sorry she is ill but- is there any update as to when the letters will be sent out?? It seems like if there was something like this going on, they would or should send a mass email to all of us in limbo- They were supposed to go out in September which was 8 days ago.. That seems like a long time to have a delay from something like that. Again, I am sympathetic and hope she gets better soon but, my life is currently on pause and my nerves are on end waiting to get some news so I can make plans for next semester. There is an accountability they should uphold by communicating with us. As of right now, they are being very passive by telling us when we call that "letters will be sent out in the next two weeks" instead of just saying "I apologize for the delay in letters being sent, the nursing director has been very ill and has caused us to get behind in processing the letters .. You should hear something in the next couple of weeks"

Congrats to those who have gotten letters. It looks like the majority of us have a score a little bit above hope.. I hope that means that of us above her on that list get acceptance letters soon! I hope everyone else gets picked as an alternate And actually gets into the program!! My fingers are crossed for those on the alternate list!!

Lonestar Spring 2012 Hopefuls
This is very frustrating. I was hoping when I signed on here, I would see how many people were excited about getting their letters- only to find out that the schools have not even began sending them! This is silly. The website says that letters are sent in "September".. we are in October. I don't understand why it is acceptable for them to not be on the ball about things when all of us have been? Part of me wonders if they wait longer just to mess with us because we are "bothering them to call and ask about it". The kingwood people are not very nice when you call. I have emailed Valerie several times over the last few weeks and I FINALLY got a response that says nothing more then "Letters will be going out in the next two weeks" This was 10 days ago... When I have called, she never answers and I leave voicemails but she does NOT return the calls. The one time she did answer, it sounded like it was by accident because she was like "Oh.. Hello?" I asked if letters had been sent or if she knew the cut off and she said "Ma'am the deadline to turn the applications in was JUST two weeks ago, we haven't even begun to look through the applications." I was stunned. I said "Oh, well the website says they go out this month.. this month is over in a few days".. her response: "Okay ma'am. Well, like I said we havent even began to look at them". I am trying to be patient and I am usually a nice person but it seems like they are really dragging on this. They need to keep us more informed. We are PAYING to go to college there and we have all invested a lot in this for them to be treating us like we are bothering them by asking simple questions. Make a website to keep pre-nursing students updated! Duh! Then, there wouldnt be so many phone calls... OR just send crap out when it is promised to be sent out!! Not acceptable.. very dissapointed. I think my frustration is coming from waiting so long... and also the delay in financial aid going through.. it was supposed to be applied to your account on 9/28 and the day of 9/28 they updated the message to say it was not going to start until 10/3...and, of course it is STILL NOT IN! I just hate waiting for things so, sorry if I am being ugly or offending anyone- just needed to vent. Hope we find out some stuff real soon

Jessa- That sounds accurate.. I was looking at posts from last year (The Spring 2011 forum) and it looks like people got notification letters as soon as September 29... I am getting antsy, along with the rest of you guys waiting for a letter!!! What was everyones score again and what was your preferred school? Mine was 11.7796 and I am hoping to get into Kingwood!

You can take pharm before the program starts- I think if you get accepted it has to be taken in the first semester or second semester of nursing school

Lonestar Spring 2012 Hopefuls
So, there are 9 more days until the deadline.. Does anyone know when they start sending letters out? Is it right after that??

Woo Hoo! You have great scores! Congrats/ Are you also going to apply to the RN program?
-
Lonestar Spring 2012 Hopefuls
Although it is not required to apply to the program, it is listed on the website as an "Admission Criteria". It wouldn't hurt to go ahead and obtain it because it will be good for two years and you will have plenty to do once you get admitted into the program! It is a wise choice to try and get it out of the way while you can! :)

I have never taken one in the Katy area.. I know most colleges offer a CPR course, and most fire stations or EMS departments do. Cypress Creek EMS and Harris County ESD are closer to that area than Conroe.. and may have some offerings. There is a place called CPR NOW on 1960, I think.. and also MCHD, AMR, and Lonestar-Montgomery... You can also look on the American Heart Association website and search your area for places/people that are certified to teach a healthcare provider class.

MCHD is Montgomery County Hospital District. They are the 911 ambulance service for the Montgomery County area. I went through EMS school with them- they are amazing people. They have the Montgomery Clinic to help with shots for low income families and families without insurance. Each year the members of MCHD volunteer for "Shots Across America" to get school age children up to date on vaccines that their parents cant afford. Super awesome organization and very talented EMS personnel!:redbeathe

I definatley think you should apply. Last semester I was not done with all the pre reqs and took the HESI just as a practice so I could get a feel for it. My points were 9.8... This is OBVIOUSLY not a score that will get me in, but I went through the application process anyways. I did not get in but, I am glad that I am familiar with the process. Now that I am done with the pre reqs, my score is much higher and I am hoping I get put into the Kingwood program this Spring. I know people have gotten into Montgomery with scores as low as 10.8.... I know some people think that is crazy but, they were on the alternate list and got a phone call. The scores have gotten a lot more competitive though with the additiion of A & P on the HESI and I know almost everyone I have talked to this semester has made 11.6 or higher. I am nervous that my chances may be slim and I have an 11.779.. Someone else posted on here.. "you will certainly not get in if you dont apply" .. Try to keep that in mind. You will never know if you would have gotten in if you dont take that chance. As nervous as we all are (and excited and scared and inpatient) .. I feel that God will make sure that we are all put in the right place for the right reasons. All of us that deserve to get in may or may not get in and I think that is all just a part of his plan. Try to keep your spirits up and just apply already! I have my fingers crossed for you!!:)

Lonestar Spring 2012 Hopefuls
I took my HESI back in January to get a feel for what it was going to be like.. when I went to take it this semester- they told me I had taken the HESI recently enough for my old scores to be used again so, I did not have to retest. I think I did well on all portions (made above 90 on all sections) except for the A & P section, which I made a 76 on... (I had not yet taken A & P 2 before taking the HESI last January..and I think that is why my score was so poor).. To answer your question about other peoples grades.. I am proud to say that I have made an A in every college class I have taken so far and I have a 4.0 gpa (math 0306, math 0308, a & p 1, a & p 2, sociology, speech, psychology, lifespan G & D, english 1 and english 2, and Kinesiology) My overall points that I applied with was 11.7796. I am hoping to get into the Kingwood program that starts in January. I am signed up to take Micro and Nursing Pharm this semester. Best of luck to all!!

Advice: Its not as hard as everyone makes it out to be so, try not to be too stressed. Sleep well the day before and eat a good breakfast before (you know all the things they told us in school to do before a big test day).. I reviewed the HESI a2 Eselvier study guide and found it really helpful. The A & P section is a little tricky- you have to remember things from class- theres no good way to cram all of that into a quick and easy study session. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. You are right- we are all in the same situation here.. nervous, excited and hopeful! Let us know how you do and if you need anything! Best of luck!

Take your wage and plug it into this inflation calculator... Discuss
I agree. As a tech, I make 15.51 (I have been with the same company for 7 years and recieved raises each year along with promotions) ... and I was suprised to find out that when I am done with Nursing School, I will probably only make 22-24 an hour. I will not even make double what I do as a tech. That was scary for me to realize, as I kept assuming nurses make like 30-40 an hour and was greatly looking forward to the increase in salary. I understand that some of the older folks on here think we are being silly for complaining for such a thing.. but, nurses deserve to make decent money for the job that they do.. and the pay should continue to increase with the cost of living. I remember my grandparents telling me when hamburgers at McDonalds used to be 5 cents. We have evolved since then and prices for simple things like this have increased dramatically. It is a reasonable expectation to want the salary of a hard job to go up. I hope the pay gets better before I am done with Nursing School.

I just talked to two other people that made the same score as me (11.7796) and a few that have made HIGHER than that. Getting a little nervous. I felt like my score was really well and I would get in for sure.. but, starting to worry a little now because it seems like everyone has good scores this time around. What was everyones score on here?

Do your RN's appreciate you as a PCT/CNA?
I like this post. I am an ER tech at a busy trauma center and I can literally run circles around the nurses I work with. I start IVs, draw blood, do EKGs, get urine samples and analyze them, check blood sugars, do vital signs, put on splints, and revitalize almost EVERY patient in the entire ER. EVen though we have 20 beds and usually 10-12 nurses, I generaly take on the brunt of the work independently because as the nurses suggest "Its my job". I love most of the people I work with but, it is still disheartening to see them sitting around looking at their Facebook page on their phone and reading a book while YOU ARE WORKING YOUR ASS OFF TO SAVE THEIR PATIENTS!!! I do not ALWAYS have days like this, there are some really amazing nurses but, sadly most of them are lazy and take WAY too much advantage of the help offered. I do like 60% more than I actually have to do... and it has come to be expected of me so, if I have an "off-day" where I am tired or not feeling mad, people get upset with me for not doing everything so efficiently. It would be nice for some of the nurses I work with to appreciate the staff that is helping them. Patient care techs are completly looked over and looked down on because of their status. I am an EMT-Intermediate and I have skills and experience in coding patients ON MY OWN in the back of an ambulance. I have delivered babies and saved gun shot wound victims and helped people out of cars that have flipped on the freeway. I have amazing talent and skill and I truly LOVE my job but, I would have to agree that I am very underappreciated and underpaid also. LOL. There have been several times that I go to report a critical value to the nurse and instead of just saying "Okay thanks" they go into some big lecture and try to explain the disease process to me... I KNOW JACKASS.. IM REQUIRED BY LAW TO REPORT TO YOU THAT YOUR DKA PATIENT HAS A SUGAR OF 1430 STILL!!!! Why do nurses think that you don't understand anything if you tell them a critical value??? We are not stupid. Most of us are worknig toward a degree in Nursing and, if nothing else... you are showing me the type of nurse I NEVER WANT TO BECOME. To those nurses out there that appreciate the ****-ons that are working their tail off to make your job easier.... thank you for being easy to work with.. to the others.. thank you also for showing me a good example of a bad nurse.

It wouldnt hurt to have CPR card before you apply. I submitted mine with my application just in case. AHA CPR cards are good for two years.

Yeah, that will be good to not have to wait too long. I applied back in the beginning of July so.. I have just been trying to keep myself busy with other things. The website says we should hear results in September but, from reading these other posts it looks like we may have to wait until the first week of October because they always get sent out late.. Im glad I have a class that starts on August 29th because that will keep me distracted..
