  1. I just finished the FNP program. I did extensive research into all the "specialty" areas before deciding what I would do. It came down to this: 1) I considered CRNA, but I really like people, so at least at this point in my life I want to TALK to pts, so that was ruled-out. 2) I have experience in and enjoy Acute Care, but I wanted to be versatile and be able to switch specialties without having to go back to school or get another license, so the family option seemed better to me. 3) I ruled out "MSN in education" because I can still be a nurse educator as a FNP, but I cannot be an FNP as a "nurse educator". 4) I TRULY considered MSN/MBA, but it again went back to the whole wanting to be in direct pt care. I am SO glad I went back to school. 1) I have more autonomy 2) I received and feel more respected by my peers 3) I can eventually work for myself 4) Being an FNP is everything I like about being a nurse, but even better! Let me know if you need anymore questions or want more in depth explanations. GOOD LUCK -T
  2. I would quit... That is not the kind of atmosphere you need to be working in. I remember how nervous I was when I started working and the support I got from seasoned nurses was ESSENTIAL... That is not worth risking your license in my opinion.
  3. Seriously... Who thinks this stuff up? LOL
  4. I just went through the same thing while enrolled in my MSN program. I ended up taking a Per Diem position and bought catastrophe insurance in lieu of taking a benefited position. In between semesters I worked literately everyday they would take me to pre-pay most of my bills. It was really horrible, but it is doable and I would not let someone who is obviously JEALOUS rain on my parade. Go for it. Do not let a little negativity get in the way of your dream. Seems like you may need a new job...
  5. I do not know where you live, but I'm in California and $22 an hour is a drop in the bucket. You could make 3 to 4 times that here. It's not all about the money, but money sure does make life easier. Unfortunately no one can give you an answer 100% either way, but I would say that you should identify what your goals are. For me personally, I always wanted to receive my BSN, so the LPN or ADN would not have worked for me. There are some hospitals out there that are not interested in hiring anything less than a BSN, but again those are few, so it all boils down to what you want and what would be good for your family. 28 years old and no time to waste... I'm 27 and I think you need to relax a bit. Give yourself some credit. You already have experience working in the hospital with patients. You're on the right track, don't worry about it. You'll make the right choice.
