5 months down in a 12 month program.... Woooo hoooo!!!!

That is correct a 75% average is the standard. And they are SERIOUS!! The best way I can describe this program is "accelerated but not abbreviated"... It is INTENSE!!!!!!!! You must commit or you will fail.... I know that's hard to hear but I wish someone would've told me beforehand. You can do it, but you have to know that it's NO JOKE!!!

I spend about 16 hours a day on nursing.. Class and study, it seems that all I do is eat, sleep and nurse... Seriously!!!!

I didn't study much for the exam actually. I bought a TEAS exam study book about a week before and worked it and took it. It was no different than the ACT, GRE, you either knew it or you didn't... So, you'll do well in your strengths, I did poorly in science, lol (go figure) but my background is in a social science...

Yes, from August 2011 to December 2012... I think that's right... Or maybe it was October, lol.... But that first semester was Micro, Issues, Scientific Writing, Patho (some people had to take Psychology, Stats I think and a few other prereqs that I didn't have to)... All of those classes were from 5:30-8:30 or 9:30 pm...

I'm not sure what our Thanksgiving schedule will look like, I can't think that far ahead. My life has literally become, "what's happening TODAY"? This is only my second semester and last semester was all night classes. So, I'm sure that's apart of the shock, this is our first full time semester (we started on Jan. 2)... But, what's awesome is that in just 3 short weeks I've learned alot about the human body and pathologies... I find myself telling people whats wrong with them and everything, lol. I will try to find out about Thanksgiving break today and let you know... We graduate on Dec 8 so christmas will be all mine!!!!!! The instructors (for the most part) are very helpful, which is a plus but they have a job to do (make us SAFE nurses) so they are also tough. The interview was pretty straight forward, I googled what to expect and was prepared... "Why, and what made you want to be a nurse". I wasn't expecting the spiritual questions (How will you incorporate Christ into practice) but answered those pretty easily... Im not sure about Hendersonvillle, but the competition here in Memphis was very steep! So, I was kinda surprised about my acceptance... It was all kinda a fluke... I never saw nursing on the horizon in my life but God saw differently... If you can knock out the TEAS, have a decent GPA and a good interview, i say "you're in"... Your major plus is that you're male... Good luck and knock em' dead!

Well, each experience is different I'm sure... We started with 41 students and are now down to 37, so that should tell you something...

Breaks?!?!?!?! What are those?!?!?! Lol....Our very first day was a federal holiday, Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. The other programs were off, we filed in and were greeted with, "How does it feel to be here on a federal holiday?" and then heard, "Well welcome to the rest of your life, NURSES ALWAYS WORK ON HOLIDAYS!!" lol.... CONGRATS AND WELCOME!!!

Well, I guess it all depends on your strengths... I have a BA and MA in sociology so I took enough natural sciences to get my BA... So, Im wayyyyy behind the cue ball as it relates to alot of stuff... The best piece of advice (for social sciences majors) I can give is REALLY pay attention in A and P... Don't just retain the info to get through exams, YOU WILL SEE IT AGAIN in patho, and Pharm for sure... Now, if you gave your brain wrapped around that stuff, you'll do much better than me... Im holding steady with solid B's but it's been tough, it's so much info and I have to go back and learn basic stuff (like what the lymphatic, CNS, etc. systems do) and then learn the info that they are teaching... My strengths have been classes like Skills and Issues, classes that are more geared to the ethical and social considerations of nursing. These classes proved to be challenges for my colleagues that have biology, chemistry, etc degrees...What I do know is that men are at a high demand at Union so that's a plus for you... We have several men (maybe 10) in our class of 41 (well 37 now because a few failedout).... I say, go for it!! It's doable, but you MUST commit!!

Good luck ladies, I am currently in the BSNA program at Union in Germantown. AND IT IS TOUGH!!!!!! Prepare your hearts and minds for the "long haul"... Don't expect much sleep and kiss your friends and family goodbye!!! LOL... But seriously, I spend about 18 hours a day on nursing, 4 for sleep and 1 for travel and 1 for looking at the ceiling wondering, "What the h*ll have I gotten myself into?"

I am attending an accelerated BSN program now and I must say that it is tough, VERY TOUGH!! The first semester I thought that I could continue to work (under the radar) and attend school because I consider myself driven and motivated. Haaaa!!!!! I almost failed out!!! So, i quit my job and rented my home. At orientation they said, "Resolve that you'll be married to nursing for one year" and they did not lie!!! I spend about 18 hours on nursing (class and studying), I sleep about 4 hours a day and about an hour traveling to and from school. So that leaves me 1 hour to do what I want, lol.... My boyfriend and I live about 15 minutes from each other and I see him once a week (for a couple of hours).... I am not trying to discourage you, just giving my perepsective... You can do it!!!! Just know that it is definitely a life-altering experience...

The TEAS was no different than any other standardized test that I've taken (SAT, GRE)... You either know it or you don't... I bought a TEAS prep book from Barnes and Noble, worked it dry and took the exam... I scored well on the vocabulary and literature based stuff and not so well on the science stuff and they still accepted me... :-)

Hi Epitome, I did decide to attend Union. I am there now in my second quarter and the most honest thing I can tell you is that "IT'S TOUGH!!, but I am holding on!!! I have finished Dimensional Analysis, Pathophysiology, Issues in Nursing and Scientific Writing, those classes were 8 weeks long. I am now enrolled in Nursing Skills, Pharm 1, and Health Assessments, these classes last 5 weeks. It is really fast!!! We have lost 3 students already!!! And we will be in the hospitals in 3 weeks taking care of patients.... NERVOUS AS HELL-O!!! However, if I can do it ANYONE can do it. I do not have a science background, I do not like science or math, lol. But, I'm still here. You just have to resolve that you will be "married" to nursing for 1 year. I spend EVERY waking moment of my day dealing with nursing. Feel free to ask me any further questions that you may have.
