  1. Hi everyone. I'm going to be graduating with my degree in marriage and family therapy in six months. I'm starting to consider becoming an RN because of the high pay let's be honest. I worked as a medical assistant for 9 months almost 7 years ago and was told that I had great bedside manner LOL. I would have went for nursing earlier but I figured I couldn't handle the bed pans. However, two kids later I can definitely hack the bed pans LOL. So now I'm going to be graduating with this wonderful mft degree and I am working as a counselor with emotionally disturbed kids right now so I'm wondering how can I parlay this experience into making me the best candidate I can be from my local RN program? From what I read they require applicants to have a minimum of 400 hours of healthcare experience. Do you think that my counseling experience is going to count? Or can I count my medical assisting experience from 7 years ago? I did shots and took vitals and prepped them to see the doctors and nurses if that helps. If anyone has any other related advice about therapists going into nursing I would love to hear it thank you.

Thanks i truly dont prefer accounting. Im in northern ca and the state school bsn programs are so competitive my measly cumulative 3.0 gpa wont stack up. Im afraid i wont get in to the lottery adn programs around here but i know theres only one way to find out. Im thinking about trying samuel merrit but its so expensive im not sure ill even be able to get enough loans to cover tuition I applied to start at cal state east bay this january for prereqs, which is my first choice bsn school. Im trying to decide if i should still do take my prereqs there or at my local community college which will save me money and commute time. Any thoughts? Thanks for the replies so far, i didnt mean to come off snapy if i did. Ive been thinking this subject to death. I really want to be a nurse but it seems almost impossible.

  8. I am 3 months pregnant. I have 2 yrs of college. I want to ultimately be an fnp in public/community health. Should I A) Finish bsn prereqs. Go for bsn. Work as RN then do msn. B) Get bachelors in non-nursing field. Go for aa in physical therapy assisting.. Work as pta and apply to entry level msn.

Hard for me to stay in one place long enough!

This may be a silly point to add but if I want to find a partner to settle down with in my home state shouldn't I be there lol. One other thing that keeps me from going back home is this overall sense of shame that I don't have a degree or a career going at my age when some of my friends do. But I know thats just a personal issue and won't be resolved till I finally stick with something. Oh the vicious cycle.

Well honestly I don't like the public trains, excessive amount of people in general and crazy people within this population. Wages are lower than my home state and the guys I've dated here just aren't serious which could be anywhere but this city is notorious for lifetime players. Being here has given me perspective as to why my fair state is beautiful. I wouldn't say I am super unhappy though. I am going home to visit in 2 weeks so I'll be able to better judge then. Still I hate not being able to make up my mind.
  11. HI Allnurses. I am from the west coast and 6 months ago I moved to east coast for school. I did summer school and got an A but now I'm starting to be concerned that I don't like the East Coast that much. I have made some good girl friends here and shown myself I can be a good student again. But overall, I enjoy the weather and scenery better on the West Coast. Spending the rest of my life on the East Coast does not sounds like something I want to do. I am already enrolled in school here sooo should I just stay here and finish my BA??? Or should I move back to the West Coast to stay? On the West Coast I won't have to pay rent BUT my parents house isn't exactly always a healthy environment for me. The gym is also free and convenient on the west and I will have my car which is really another added expense. I just dont know. But I need to make a decision and stick with it. Any advice?
