  1. Oh how sad this post made me. OP, do you really think that your patients are lying around all day, thinking that they have it made? That they would trade their health for the ability to sleep all day and bossing people around. Even if you were in their situation, would you want to be that demanding patient? While being ill is no reason to have a lousy attitude with the staff caring for you, we don't often encounter people on the best day of their lives. I know that I'm fortunate enough to have my health...I hope that you have yours as well.
  2. It isn't that I would have chosen something else, I just wish it would have stayed more like it had in the beginning when I started, versus how it is now (and I've only been a nurse since 2011). I loved the bedside and did not want to leave (there was so much more to learn and do), but when it felt as though my license was being put on the line with every shift, I left. I enjoy my current role, but this isn't what I had envisioned when I realized that I had to become a nurse.
  3. This is going to come off harsh, but I have concerns for when you start working as a nurse if something like this deeply troubled you. I understand that everyone has a different sense of humor, and that's perfectly fine. Unfortunately, though, nursing can be a bit messier than an offensive t-shirt or bumper sticker. I hope that you have a strong support system for the troubling days...
  4. I was unaware that it was frowned upon to be asked how many patients that your assignment is. The only thing that I found wildly inappropriate is how OP handled the situation-not only bothering charge with it, but to email the manager? And to sound as though you were expecting an apology? Goodness.
  5. Are we sure he isn't a DNR? It's been a rough year.
  6. Hello, everyone! My name is Stephanie (obviously, LOL) and I recently took and passed the NCLEX on May 31st, 2011. I am having a heck of a time finding work in a hospital, but I am trying to remain optimistic. Congrats to everyone and I look forward to learning more about everyone and their experiences!!
  7. Hello! I would just like to say that Heather's post was right on, down to the review she suggested (Saunders). I recently took the NCLEX-RN (5/31/11) and I can honestly say that myself, along with everyone else from my class that tested that day, walked out feeling like they knew nothing. From what I have heard from other people, that seems to be pretty normal. I am saying this just to prepare you in case you feel that way, as I am sure feeling confident is probably a good sign, too;) Now, I do now know if there is truth to this, so please do no hold it as such, but it seemed as though SATA questions were a good thing. My computer shut off at 75 and I had 12 SATA. Out of the 12 people from my class that tested, we all passed in 75 questions and had 10-20 SATA questions each. As far as the material, it really is so varied. I basically made sure I answered 100 questions daily from the Saunders review CD-Rom and reviewed my notes from a review course that I took. You will be fine. I know it does not feel like it now, but you will. Good luck to you!
