Hi Everyone... I am currently volunteering in a skilled nursing facility, peds clininc & hospital to gain more insight about occupational therapy. I am thinking about changing careers, however, my concern is the job outlook for OT. I love the work so far and I believe I would be a great OT, however, I still have to think about having a job if I decide to go through all the educational requirements. I already have a master's degree in a business field and due to the economy have faced up's and downs...So this time I want to make sure I'm moving into a career path that has somewhat of a stable outlook. Please any nurses or OT's let me know the truth about what you see on a daily basis. Any advice will be gladly appreciated! :)

Hello... I am in my late 20's I have a Bachelor's & Master's degree, however, I have not been able to find a stable job in my field since I graduated from graduate school in 08'. While I do feel I have put forth a great deal of effort in searching for employment within my field- I have continued to come up empty handed. While I have always had a passion to help care for others, I have recently been considering going back to school for Nursing (ADN/RN). I guess my question to the nursing students/nurses out there is- Do people from a liberal arts/business background come into the nursing field an transition well? Also, I am interested in completing my degree at Greenville Technical College, Greenville, SC and I would like to know if anyone could give me an idea about the structure of the classes? I am interested in receiving not only theory, but hands on application as well. Any information you could pass along would be greatly appreciated!

Hello All! I am interested in pursuing a career in nursing and I have recently taken the preadmission test for to apply for acceptance at Watts. I am believing and praying that I passed the test! My question is.... I was just wondering if anyone knows if they are still offering tuition repayment option & job placement program? If not, are most students offered employment upon graduation? Also, I would be a 2nd degree student if accepted (liberal arts/business) I was just wondering how those students do when transitioning from a completely different field....I know I'm not "old" yet (late 20's), however, I just have some concerns since it's a totally different field.

@onaclearday, sneakysnake,313RN - Thanks for all your advice! This information has given me a better perspective of the nursing field & opportunities that are available. I'm currently living in the Research Triangle area (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC)- so I am surrounded by various medical facilities. I believe I am looking more towards the ADN/RN program at this time, but you never know that may change. If you all have any additional comments or advice-please feel free!

@Turd Ferguson- I completely understand nursing doesn not guarantee an automatic job. Initially, I was interested in going into the medical field in undergrad, however, I took a different path. Now- I am kicking myself in the butt. I will admit I am a little concerned about my decision, but that is because it's the completely opposite direction from what I originally started.

Also- do you feel as if a ADN/RN (2yr program) would be a good start? The program I am interested in has a tuition reimbursment option and placement once you graduate with your degree. From the reviews I've read of the school- They have great hands on training, retention rates & high NCLEX passing percentages. Any advice that could be passed along would be greatly appreciated!
