A friend who lives in USA received a needlestick injury during a short stay in hospital. The usual HEP vaccination and blood tests followed but alas the result is HEP B positive. How does she go about taking legal action.

Hello Barb So glad to see you'r sister is doing well now and I dearly hope she keeps well. For what it's worth for the future (in case you should ever need to find her help again) it's always useful to organise a 'professionals meeting' where everyone involved with her conduct disordered behaviour (Social services / Disability team / Police / Last school nurse / Doctor / Psychiatrist / Psychologist & the family can pool their concerns to inform some sort of action plan. Once everyones views are formally on paper, a designated 'agency ownership' should follow some form of 'official' assessment.

Question for WILL's MUM (from another Will's Mum) My beloved eldest sister is thinking of going to Oz / Perth to be exact. Her daughter and grandchildren are emigrating down-under June 05. She is a Registered Nurse & Health Visitor (Community N degree) working on behalf of Health Authority with Youth Offenders. She is nearing retirement (60 next year) although can work in the UK till 65. Thinks she can get same type of work in Perth or do community nursing. We say she's too old. We don't want her to go. What's you'r verdict?

Whatever research study you choose should be something that really grabs your curiousity. I also work in child health for many years and completed an MSc in 1997. At that time if someone had suggested 'Childrens accidents' as my research topic I would have laughted till I dropped. I dealth with the issue ad nausium, including frequent updates, training and campaignes etc. I thought I knew all there was to know about the subject and wanted to look at something new and exciting which I had no knowledge about. At the time I was aware that the UK home accident statistics for children under 15 years were 2,554,546 injuries, 75% of the 4,546 fatalities were children under 5 years. HOWEVER. While visiting Washington prior to, and no nearer a decision, I accidently came across the US 'home accident' statistics which mirrowed the UK rates. What grabbed my attention was a fact cited in both the UK & USA. "With the near eradication of most infectious diseases, epidemiology maps childhood accidents as probably the most under-recognised public health threat in most developed countries (Gordon, 1949: Wheatly 1949) HALF A CENTURY WITH NO CHANGE!!! So! researching the answer provided the most challenging and rewarding piece of work I have ever done. Hope this example helps.
