Working overtime at job vs 2nd PRN job elsewhere
if you're into money, less hassle and consistency, then just do OTs. 1.5x salary, so if some is earning $36.5, after 40hours it'll become $54.75 compared to $46.5. You have to look at the whole picture. first, do not think that 401k deduction is bad. that's free money. If you don't deduct you 401k from per diem, where does it go? to the taxes. dont be blinded by the up front salary. if you just want to change how much you're getting per pay check, then just change your w-2. tax bracket 24%$82,500 above = tax 19800, 62700 take home 32%$157,500 above = tax 50400, 107100 take home 35%$200,000 above = tax 70k , 130k take home 37%$500,000 above = tax 185k. 315k take home the more you work, the more take home youll get, the bigger 401k contribution, and more tax means more help you give to the US. now if you hate your primary job, i'd suggest you get a travel nursing job instead of PRN. it pays more, pretty much everything is paid by the agency. goodluck

local hiring for MOH is closed here and also what i have heard is that the batches of nurses for MOH will all be under sub-contract agencies. please clarify it with your friends and think first before giving out big amount of money. goodluck

@jurujuru -I don't have any news from Al essa agency. I heard that most of my friends resigned and got absorbed by our previous hospital. As ive told you before, al essa agency has a bad reputation.. Try to apply in ADM there in the Philippines because most of their counterpart agencies are well-known in Kuwait. Otherwise, just for the next hiring of MOH.

that is totally unfair.. ask POEA and they will tell you that only ONE month salary should be given to your agency. it would be better if you can find an agency which directly hire nurses because they offer more(320kd for private hospitals as far as i know). do not rush! when i first applied in kuwait, my salary was 250kd and i only paid 250kd for the placement fee & 15k php for the processing of visa. try other agencies.

Applying as a nurse in Norway, anyone else?
Hi guys! I've learned a lot from this thread. I would like to ask, is it really necessary to be in a consultancy to apply as a nurse in Norway? Actually, my sister is planning to apply in Norway(Learning Norwegian Language). I already saw the requirements that are needed and she have all of them except for the proof of housing. Unfortunately, we do not have any relatives there. I was planning to just financially support her and have her rent a room/apartment during her first few months until she gets a job and be able to support herself. Thanks!

no. it is because from the 900 Indian and 300 Filipino applicants, there are still nurses in kuwait who did not finish their papers(including me). and also, i heard that the personels in kuwait prefer to hire indians because the placement fee that they give to their agency reaches to as much as 5-8k kuwait dinar and part of it is given to the nursing personnels here in kuwait. goodluck

@graceys - i am a former employee of al-essa company, now im working here as an MOH nurse. if you have not been reading any articles about this company, please start now. i used to work in a private hospital here in kuwait and resigned after my 2-yr contract from al-essa. we were around 50applicants in 2008 who made it and now only 2 are planning to stay in our previous hospital. be wary, read. do you know why it takes a long time for al essa to send their applicants? it is because they have pending lawsuits from Philippine emBassy kuwait. a lot of applicants complained about this company which lead them to change their general manager(previous was nasser mugharib or something like that). please browse, search and read the internet before applying in al essa company. good day

additional info:to those who have MAN or MSN, please be wary that including your post grad diplomas(in you CV) has its pros and cons.pros: Usually the hospital will hire you as part of either Quality Assurance or Staff Development Unit. This means that you won't be as busy as other staffs who were assigned in the floors, ER, OR etc.. You will only have morning duty which only last for 7hours. You will also get additional salary for the post grad diploma.cons: No night duty means 100kd will be deducted from your salary. You will also miss the chance of getting 50kd which is given to those who are assigned in special areas like OR/ER/ICU.. I also find it boring since most of your time will be use for paper works/ lectures and the likes.in my opinion, it is better not to include your post grad diploma in your CV. A senior(ER staff) of mine has just been transferred to SDU and his salary was cut by 30-50kd. goodluck

MOH will hire, regardless of the area, as long as you have a 3-year exp 6mos prior to their hiring date. there is a chance that your salary will be reduce or increase. some had like 30-70kd increase while others had their salary deducted by 10-140kd. if you apply for MOH, they(best-one) will definitely hire you for MOH. you should visit your agency because they are the ones who can clarify/answer all your questions. and be sure to apply as soon as possible.

two years renewable contract which actually wont expire unless you decided to resign. on the other hand, you will have to renew your civil id everytime it expires.

dinx -yes you can use credit cards and yes you can exchange your dollars(to KD) in the airport. theysee - you are right, so bring dollar rather than peso bills. fzaq - the board of nursing only allow paid exp. if you are planning on applying in MOH then you'll have to have at least 3years of exp. if you have been training in a hospital, you can ask your headnurse to give you a COE and attach her(Headnurse) phone number. tell her, if someone from kuwait asks(which NEVER happens) her about you, to simply tell that you have already worked in that hospital. be sure, that your skills are as good or better than the years of exp that your HN have indicated in your COE. the difference between hired and trainee nurses is that hired nurses are paid while trainee nurses are the ones who pay. if you send both nurses here in kuwait, they will both undergo training which is different from the practices that we have in PH. as to my experience, sometimes, newly hired nurses(in Kuwait) are better(theoretically and actual) than their seniors. nurses here dont insert IFCs nor NGTs. for new nurses, don't feel inferior and be assertive but be sure to be respectful.

I almost forgot, be sureto bring additional money with you. Since the processing takes quite a long time, we may as well get our salary on or after december or january. It would be wise/better to bring than to ask your relatives to send money from PH to Kuwait. bring at least 300-500$ and wait for your salary before you shop for unnecessary items. some of my colleagues spent too much and now they're worried when our salary will be released. @they.see - I think ther's no INC in Kuwait, there are churches for Catholics and Born Again though. You can ask your Pastor, they know better. Most of the nurses were asigned in Al Sabbah and Farwaniya Hospital. Some are in Adan and Jahra. Rare postings are in Amiri and Mubarak. Worst(for me) possible assignment is in Police Affairs and Prison(usually those with ER exp). I was assigned in Mubarak and might be posted in eiter ER or Gastro/endoscopy area. Gastro/Endo building isnt finish yet so I might as well be posted in Wards. Gudlak and see you guys here!

hi dinx, how's your applcation? i heard that AR had a problem because both Best1 and AR are asking for 650kdplacement fee? it has been more han a month and we are still in the hostel. might be posted in Police ffairs since my experience is ER. BTW, if yu have male friends who are planning to apply this cioming deemberr, then tell them to apply in ADM(tell them i told them lol) because Mam ****(the person who handles the hiring here in Kuwait) is somewht related to the ADm staffs. as you can see, almost all of the nurses who applied here tru adm are already here. best of luck to you guys!
