  1. Wow thanks a lot for all the helpful tips... these are things I wouldn't have figured out on my own right away so thanks!
  2. I am looking for study tips for an NP program. I am getting my DNP, FNP at the University of Iowa starting this August. I am doing a part-time program (I'm doing 3 years of work in 4 1/2 years) so I can work through school (most of school, anyway). The last semester of my BSN I was wishing I would've done things differently throughout my college career - I wish I would've had the flashcards and NCLEX books that I bought... I wish I would've had them my freshman year rather than my senior year, so I could use them throughout school rather than just studying for boards. I wished I would've made flashcards and kept my materials. I wish I would've paid more attention in Fundamentals of Nursing, no matter how basic it was. I don't want to make that mistake again of having so many regrets senior year, I want to have everything I need my freshman year in order to use it throughout my school experience. What materials should I buy right away? Does anyone have tips for studying? Should I work full time or part time? Thank you so much, I appreciate it!
  3. I agree and disagree. I worked as an RN at a small rural hospital where there was an extreme hierarchy... the doctors and nurses had trouble getting along, mainly because the doc's would get ****** if the nurse talked to them (which makes it really hard to do your job) BUT... I also worked at a large teaching hospital, which is where I work now - which is a LOT different, especially when you are working with new residents who need your help :) I think it depends where you go.
  4. When I was interviewed for my DNP program I wrote a list of questions and I wrote down a paragraph long answer so I could be prepared. The first thing they said when I got to the interview was "you already answered everything we were going to ask you in your cover letter". In my cover letter i did my research on the school, looked at the mission statement, and described why I would fit into their program, and described why I wanted to go to that school (because of their achievements blah blah blah) - I would definitely expect the school to make sure that you know about the school's mission statement and stuff so you can explain to them why you would be a good fit for their program, and how you would benefit them. First question they asked me: Why did you decide to be a nurse? Second question they asked me: Tell me about your last job? They also asked me: How many hours do you plan on working while in school? (I told them "I was going to ask you the same question, how many hours should I work?") I actually had prepared a lot of questions for them because they like it supposedly when you ask a lot of questions, so I asked things that applied to me. For example, "do you allow a lot of new graduates into your program"? and "Are there any undergraduate courses I should take this semester to better prepare me for your program?". I got in with my answer preparing :) heehee good luck!
  5. It took 5 days total for me to get my ATT after registering - They sent me my ATT the day they got my official transcript from the school. It might not be that fast for all states, but that's how fast Iowa is.
  6. The pearson vue trick said I passed! I don't know if that is for real though. I tried to sign up for the NCLEX again and it said I already had the date or I was already registered or something like that...
  7. I just tested June 1st. I am so nervous I failed!!!! It shut off in 75 questions, and it was SERIOUSLY over 50% SATA (Select All That Apply) - I am not exaggerating one bit. Plus, I think I did poorly on Safety and Infection Control - I had A LOT of standard/contact/droplet precautions questions. I figure if I got a lot of them I must be doing poorly in Safety and Infection Control
