Indeed, the beginning part of the program is probably the most stressful part. Lots of competition with no guarantee of admission. I'm not sure how your friend wasted 2 years considering that the core classes only takes 1 year. On the plus side, EVERY school requires the core classes. I looked into it...just in case. I did end up getting accepted though, and I'm in my second semester. I'm actually learning a lot, but it's annoying having to find your own preceptors. If you have any doubt or hesitation in your mind while applying, I wouldn't even consider it. To be honest, the orientation motivated me a lot. When they said only 15 would get accepted, I was ready to take on that challenge. I think what helped was that I got straight A's during the entire first year. But my friend got a B+ in pharmacology, and she still got accepted, so don't feel discouraged. Anyways, best of luck to everyone!

Getting an A was definitely possible! I ended up getting a 95%. You have to put in a lot of time and effort, but that's how it is with every class. I probably put in 10-15 hours a week. I did read all the chapters, and I went over the slides on evolve (you have to purchase the module packet). The slides were especially helpful, and this was the only class that had it. It's also a cheaper alternative in my opinion.

I actually did end up getting accepted. I'm finishing up my first semester in December. In total, 16 were accepted, but 2 dropped early on. Are you/have you applied to this program as well?

Yeah, I know. That's why everyone at the orientation left either upset or shocked. I don't know how they can get away with it since it is pretty unfair. The only benefit is that IF you do get accepted, the cost is cheaper (for California residents, that is). But I would consider other schools too. I won't find out if I get in until June 30th apparently.

Hi. Sorry to reply so late, I kinda forgot about this thread. Anyways, conditionally accepted means you're accepted in the school, and need to take several MSN courses. The first semester is advanced patho and advanced nursing roles. During the first semester, you also send another application specifically to the nursing program (in this case, the fnp program), which includes transcripts, essay, letter of recs, etc. Then you go on to take advanced pharmacology and advanced health assessment the following semester. After that semester is over, you submit another form. That form includes your grades in the four classes and the GWE writing score. That form is considered the second level review. From there, they select 15 students to join the actual MSN/FNP program. You can only apply once. If you don't get in, they said we can either change our track to something else (such as nurse educator) and reapply. Or we reapply to another school and hope to god that our classes are transferable so that we don't spend another year stressing over the same material. Either way, the whole application process is long, harsh, and unnecessary.

Hello! I have been conditionally accepted for Fall 2013 MSN/FNP track as well. I have not heard much about this school =( Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who attended this school, so I've been doing research on my own. I'm glad I found this post online though. I do hope others will reply with informative news. From my understanding, the clinical requirements are due July 2014. However, I found that the FNP handbook was a bit disorganized, and therefore hard to follow. I can only hope that they clarify everything at the orientation in August. Have you heard anything about this school? My main concern is enrolling in the Fall 2013/Spring 2014, paying tuition and submitting the portfolio, only to find out that I did not get accepted into the program. I just don't want this to be an experience of lost money and time =\

Thank you. I'm sure you were extremely qualified as well I haven't seen a list (I wish I had access). I just know of at least 10 people who got hired, most of which were my classmates, the others were out of state. Not to mention that several other people on this thread mentioned that they were moving from out of state just for Cedars. ETA- I didn't even know about my classmates until a few days ago (right before the second cohort orientation). It seems like those who got hired were silent this year as opposed to the past years.

Don't worry. I got my rejection email as well. I've come to the conclusion that Cedars isn't worth it. From what I found out, several of my classmates got hired, and they all had lower GPAs than me, were much older, and didn't get their license until WEEKS after getting hired (I got mine before July..like how they told us to). I followed directions and worked hard in school, but clearly Cedars didn't see that. It was also disappointing and ridiculous to see how many out of state people they hired. Anyways, I'm glad this is finally over with.

I just got a call from CHLA. The woman I spoke to said that although they had initially rejected me, they still have my application and would like to interview me for the oncology department. I thought it was kind of random but awesome that they decided to call. I was wondering if anyone else got a call as well?

I work for a home health agency. I would prefer a hospital still, but I'm not even going to complain with what I have right now. I do live in LA, but it's still hard to find jobs at hospitals. I've applied to five, got automatically rejected from 3, got only 2 interviews (rejected from 1), and I'm still waiting for the other (Obviously Cedars...which looks like I'm not getting a call).

Yeah, this is awful. At least some hospitals are straight out honest and tell you when you're waitlisted or rejected. I honestly don't even know if it's worth working here anymore. I've already found a job part-time elsewhere. If Cedars calls, that would great because I can work full-time there, and work whenever else at my other job. But right now, it's not looking like I'll get that (at least not with cedars). I'm just thankful I have something to do now.

Yeah, I feel you on that. I graduated in May and I've been looking forward to going on vacation out of the country, but I felt like Cedars was holding me back. At this point, I don't even want to book anything just in case the HR department at Cedars finally begins to communicate properly. Even if they do eventually begin to call more people, I already know they're going to rush us on getting everything done quickly which leaves me without any vacation time. I'd rather work at Cedars over vacation, but I honestly could have planned something better if I wasn't so lost with their mismanagement.

Just wondering, when did you get it mailed back?

Count me in! This is becoming very frustrating. I am sick of waiting. Even if this is a good thing, I would greatly appreciate better communication and direction.

When I called last week and asked if there were any positions left, the woman said yes, and that not everyone has been notified yet. Of course, she said that they would start notifying more this week, but it seems like nothing happened, so I don't know. I'm thinking there are two different reasons that could explain why they're taking forever. 1) They're waiting for those who got the call to say "no," so that the people who haven't heard from them could get hired. 2) They're working on placement for the previous cohort to get them out of med/surg and onto the unit of their choice. Once that has happened, then they can call us. Of course, it could be anything. Who knows what it really is, but they apparently don't want to mention anything over the phone.

For rejection? i cant imagine there being that many more people to contact. I wonder whats taking them a long time

When I talked to the nurse recruiter yesterday (right before the interview), she said they selected the first batch of people to be interviewed. They didn't choose everyone from that batch, so moved on to the second batch. I was in the second batch. They're beginning with the third batch. I actually just got the call from Northridge, and it wasn't good. My first phone rejection. Oh well. They told me they only had 1 position left for Med/Surg (they selected 15), but now it's all been filled.

I honestly was not a fan of their interview. It was a small panel, and it lasted a little over an hour. But I was there for almost 3 because they started over an hour late. They asked me about 20 scenario questions and to provide a million examples. I know there were at least 20 because at one point, one of them said she was on #17. I think the interview would have been better if I actually had RN experience. But instead, I had to dig through my student years to provide examples for some crazy questions. Needless to say, I don't think I got the position.

Haha, same here. I've never been so scared to check my emails! It used to be that I couldn't wait to receive an email. This waiting game is not fun

Lol, is this what I have to look forward to? A "No thank you" titled email? I haven't gotten mine yet, but I know mine will come shortly. Oh well, it was a good first job interview experience. I also have an interview tomorrow, so hopefully that one will go better. Congratulations on passing the NCLEX emos! At least now with a license, you can pretty much apply anywhere. I was just wondering, when did you take the exam? I took mine on the 23rd, but I still don't have any results (other than the "good pop up" from the PV trick). Even with a rejection email, I know seeing my name on the BON website will put a smile on my face.

Many times I lost hope with Cedars, and I still managed to get this far. I emailed RL when people were getting phone interviews, so I thought for sure I wouldn't get called. No one even bothered to send me an email back. Out of nowhere, a month or so after sending my email, Cedars called me for the phone interview. I never even got a warning. Mind you, due to lack of preparation, I thought I bombed the phone interview. I got the invitation for the actual interview much later than most other people. I constantly gave up hope, and they constantly gave me hope. Unless I get a rejection email (or my folder in the mail), I'm not going to think of the "realistic thoughts" that would otherwise bring down my day because I honestly expect this from Cedars.

Geeze... So much negativity on this thread. I still think they're not done with the selection process because I know of a lot of people who went to the interview without a license, but showed Cedars their confirmation for the NCLEX exam (of when they were to take the exam). I'm thinking that just maybe Cedars is waiting to see if those people received their license before calling
