  1. Hi Ron The CA BRN emailed me back when I asked them if Walden University is an approved online program for pursuing MSN for NP. They said "We do not accredit out of state/out of country schools." Also, after much research into the subject of approval vs. accreditation by our state of CA, I found out that if a program is accredited by the CCNE (meaning you can take the National Certification after graduation), and the program conforms to the CA Standards of Education (CCR 1484), and you hold a CA license, you will meet application requirements for NP certification by the BRN to practice in CA. I found this info on www.nursing-school-degrees.com/States/California-nurse-practictioner.html. Check it out. Hope all this helps you.
  2. Hello, I'm wondering who all has been conditionally accepted into the Fall 2013 MSN/FNP program at CSUDH. I have been and would love to talk about the program. Have any of you heard about the program, classes, instructors, and I'm a bit confused about the clinical requirements. Are they due THIS July 15 or NEXT July 15?
  3. What do you mean "You heard wrong". About what? Sitting for licensure?
  4. lisa, i hope i am answering you correctly. i'm fairly new to this site also. i live in so. cal also. i have been trying to get more info on out of state on line programs also. i have calls out to the brn, but no calls back. i did get one email that said they don't accredit out of state or out of country programs. then i talked to a friend, and she said if i go through an out of state program that the brn doesn't accredit, that it will be very hard, if not impossible for me to get a job in ca. then in reading on in allnurses.com, it sounds like there are some nps in ca that have gone through out of state programs and have gotten jobs. so, i'm very confused. i need an online program, as i live too far from all schools, and it seems the only one is western univ, but i can't apply until aug for next fall semester. i'm very interested in keeping in touch with you to see what other info you find. i don't know how to pm somebody, but i'd love it if you would, if you know how. good luck! julee
  5. Thank you for that very good suggestion! I appreciate it!
  6. Hi Wapanther11, I just really want somebody who can critique my resume. I really don't need all that a career coach offers. Thank you for the info. Jla11
  7. Soonershok, I appreciate your PM, but I can't respond to you via PM. I guess I haven't added enough threads to have that capability. I really just want somebody to look at and critique my resume. Where are you a student? Thank you for your willingness to help. jla11
  8. Hello Can anybody recommend a career coach that knows at least a little about becoming a CRNA? Also, I can't afford much since I'm a student, so please let me know if you know of anybody that will work with me on that. Thank you!
  9. Snow bunny, Ok, thank you very much. I will do that....
  10. Hi Gwapo, Where is Keck School of Med? I can't apply to S.M. My husband will be supporting me and we live in So. Cal. Did you know Loma Linda will be opening a program? They are working on getting accredited as we speak. Their next step with that is Jan '11, and are planning on their 1st quarter being Fall '11. I don't know how to PM anybody. I'm new to this site. Can you help me with that? I'd love to keep in touch. I think we will need all the support that we can get. Thank you for the encouragement. I will be submitted my app in Nov '12. If I get in I'll be starting in Mar '13. Does that sound about right for you?
  11. Can anyone answer a couple questions for me? I'm wondering if a school will accept me at 56 years old.... Also, I'm wondering if I have too much ICU experience. I have 23 years in ICU. Do you think it's too late for me? I am planning on applying to Kaiser Fullerton in November 2012; and maybe Loma Linda (in process of getting accreditation). Haven't seen any posts on this subject... Thank you for your comments....
  12. Snow bunny, I would also love to hear about your interview. I won't be applying until Nov '12, but am trying to prepare myself the best I can. Also, somebody suggested I take a refresher physics class AND the GRE, even tho Kaiser Full doesn't require it. Do you agree? Thank you!
  13. Thank you so much!!!....that's what I was hoping someone would say. I think/hope I am a much better student now...I think that's going to be my focus for the next few years is doing my best on my BSN, THEN focusing on everything else while I'm waiting to get in.
  14. Hi Hapiyogi I have been in nursing 32 years..did my ADN first and now realized I should have done my BSN instead. I was young and didn't realize how long I would be in this field. If you are young, I would definately recommend doing your BSN. Nursing is a high burn-out profession, and you may find that you don't want to do "bedside nursing" (or whatever) for long. Try if you can to get your BSN (esp is you want to get your MS)..you may be able to use some of your prereqs, . The BSN will open more doors for you later on. I would recommend applying now for a program and finishing your BA while you are waiting. If nursing is really what you want, then maybe you'll never finish your BA. As for the upper div classes, yes, definately take them ASAP while you wait. It took me 4 years to do my ADN because I had to take the prereq's before getting in the program, so if you do your BSN, you won't waste that time. Good luck!
  15. Also, Jenny, check out "fast track" programs...I know they require less time getting through school, and I think a committment with a specific hosp.
