  1. Hey everyone! I'm accepted for May 2012 (for an ABSN program), but I'm still interested in reading what you all will be doing one semester ahead of us!
  2. I have to agree with what others have said. You may not realize how lucky you are to have a place after graduation. Our area is filled with new grads with no jobs (sometimes for a year or more!). But then to ice that cake with tuition reimbursement? I would encourage you to fulfill your obligations, get 4 years experience under your belt, and then move on to where you really want to be. You might be surprised where you want to be in 4 years anyway... The more people that break deals like this, the less deals for new nurses there will be in the future. "Be sincere and true to your word, serious and careful in your actions; and you will get along even among barbarians, But if you are not sincere and untrustworthy in your speech, frivolous and careless in your actions, how will you get along even among your own neighbors? When stand, see these principles in front of you; in your carriage see them on the yoke. Then you may be sure to get along."--Confucius (The Analects)
  3. We have to have our deposits in by 11/21. It sounds like if you take Health Care Ethics, you'll have a good shot of getting in the next class. Don't lose hope!
  4. No, I couldn't get into WebAdvisor, either, and I was accepted. I'm so sorry your letter isn't here, yet. Ugh!
  5. Got my letter today! I am in! Whew! I can breathe finally...
  6. Ugh, it wasn't in today's mail (in Denver).
  7. Yes, I was in person. Definitely a good group of people. Whoever doesn't get in should feel at least reassured that the competition was worthy.
  8. I tried to sign up for a Webadvisor account but it says I am not eligible for an account at this time. So...dunno what that means, lol.
  9. I know. I am not sure if we're supposed to get our letters tomorrow or if they just go out tomorrow, or if an email will go out tomorrow, but I'm biting my nails here.
  10. No, I think 190 applied and they interviewed 96...
  11. I felt like mine went pretty well, too! Fingers crossed! There were about 190 applicants according to J.K. This is going to be a long week, isn't it?!
  12. My interview is tomorrow morning! I am pretty nervous, but luckily am busy so I'll just put one foot in front of the other. I wonder if we'll get marked down for wearing snow boots. Gina
  13. Hi, I am not a nurse (am applying for May 2012 ABSN start date), but I am an IBCLC. I went the peer counselor route (I am a LLL Leader) and sat for the exam in 2009. I found Linda Smith's exam prep guide to be invaluable. There is also a study guide that went with a previous edition of Riordan's book, but I am not sure if it was updated after the new edition came out. That being said, my understanding is that LLL Leaders tended to have more challenges around the immediate postpartum, and nurses tend to have more challenges along the later months/years of bf. If you have long term bf experience yourself, or if you've worked as a counselor for older babies, you'll probably not need to worry about this. But if you mostly help moms in the hospital right after delivery, you may need to focus on this. The exam is divided not only into subject areas (A/P, norms, patho, etc.) it is also divided up into ages and stages. So expect some questions for every age up until preschool nursing. Also, if you're not subscribed to Lactnet, I would do that right away. I find the discussions on that list to be very helpful and also useful for considering ethical issues (know your WHO Code for example). Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions! Gina
  14. I had to get special permission and only one school would allow me to do this. I am 38, have a BS, and spent the first two years out of high school at an engineering school, so I have a strong math/science background--just not life sciences. I will be taking A&P I and II, Microbiology, and possibly Growth and Human Development (I have several psych/anthro classes, though, so I may get credit for it) in one semester so I can get started with nursing school next fall. I am very grateful they let me do this, or else I'd have to wait another year--which, given this is an unexpected redirection, would be a challenge.
  15. I am very happy to read this! I am doing the same thing this summer and am a little nervous about it.
