Honestly this is very similar to the procedure my hospital uses and there's not really a problem and hasn't been for the 4 years I've worked there. In times of low census in our unit we have a rotation of both being on call and floating. You always have the option to say no and they continue on down the list and hope someone says, "Yes I want to be on call" or it comes back around and it's your time and that's that. You also have people who request call more than others. We have a hospital wide book for requests to be on call which gets consulted when they're making staffing requests. We don't low census employees. We get paid $4/hr to be on call and if called in it's time and a half with an hour of travel time. Generally you don't get called in after 5, but I have been called in as late as 3 AM because it was what needed to happen. You don't have to use PTO if you don't want to but you also can to make up the hours.

I agree that the way you've asked this question is weird. Especially the "in the field" portion, what do you consider that to be? But in my opinion with the way you've phrased the question there are things you can do without the physician, like common sense things. If the patient is bleeding then your first order of business is to get that under control as best you can anyway whether told to or not because it's part of the ABC's.

The applications come with around year and a half of wait time. So you apply for your upper division placement and you have to have all your pre-reqs and lower division classes done by the time your upper division time spot comes up. So I applied in April of 2010 and have a Spring Semester 2012 upper division placement. Admittance is based upon pre-req GPAs. I knew some people in Missoula who were even on a waitlist for an upper division spot and were taking their lower division classes (5 total). Hope this helps you :)

My LPN program was a hunter green top with a school patch and white pants, which I could never keep clean. I plan on burning them someday because there are two colors I will never wear in real life. My BSN program I'm starting this fall is head to toe Navy Blue with a school patch, I'm absolutely excited for no white!

I graduated the 13th, had my state paperwork and Pearson account set up beforehand, and got my ATT 1 week later, and will be taking my NCLEX-PN on June 27th. There were earlier test dates, but they didn't work for me. Our school had our transcripts fast tracked so they'd be sent out quicker than everyone elses, haha.
