Burnout...what to do about it?
Have you tried applying at a different facility? Possibly a different unit? Nurses make money by moving around- not staying and getting small annual raises. I made $1.20 more when I moved after 2 years at my starting job. Maybe you should try a different unit? I know I wouldn't have lasted had I worked with adults.

Is it possible for me to be a good nurse?
You're going to doubt yourself until you pass the boards, and then it's typically 16 months for a new nurse to feel confident. We have all been there, I always joke that nursing school was the worst best choice I ever made...lol, man it sucked. And it was the most competitive nonsense too- dude, we all made it into the program, work together....ugh. Give yourself 2 years after boards...you're going to make mistakes, feel inadequate, question the career choice, and panic about most everything....breath, we have all been there! *hug* Much like you, standardized tests killed me...I took every question on the boards. EVER. DAMN. QUESTION. 5 hrs....I was DEFEATED. I passed, and I've been playing nurse for a little over 5 yrs and love it! However, I think I love it because I'm in the speciality I am....no way could I do adults.

For anyone who went straight into Mother-Baby/L&D as a new grad, do you have any regrets?
Absolutely No Regret. After passing boards I was lucky enough to land a job on a unit that split PP and Peds. So I got 2 specialties at 1 job. We took low risk pregnancies and typical community hospital peds, so comorbidities weren't something I delt with. I'm sure on high risk units the adult med/surg background would be useful, but not absolutely necessary. I hope you work out the kinks and fall right into place....it's an amazing specialty.

Nursing School Blues
i cant not begin to emphasize how much your post reflects EXACTLY how i feel right now *hug* i have so much heart and drive to do this- only it obviously isnt enough....i am JUST like you....never had an issue with pre-req's, learn fairly quick and bust my tail to study....its not enough we need a 75 to pass out lecture course....my text grades were consistantly 70, 72, 74.....only 1 time did i hit 78....at the end we took the HESI where i scored a 99.99%!!!.....now HOW could i possibly not be able to pass their test- yet get that on a stanardized test that gears tward the NCLEX? and of course it doesnt count until the fall semester (had it- i would have JUST passed) to top off this semester.....i started to slack on the last 2 pharm tests so i could study harder on the lecture....failed the class by 1 point......im beyond broken and devistated....ive never worked this hard to FAIL something i will most definitely go back in Aug and give it my all again to see where it gets me....i'll be thinkin about you ass well....good luck :)
