Yes you hear this type of thing with facebook a lot lately. You just have to be smart about it. Rule of thumb: Even though FB can be "private", post like everyone has access to it. Do not ever post anything bad about anybody or anyplace. FB changes their privacy settings often and your page can go to default settings without you knowing. Do not post anything that would offend someone like your grandmother or boss!!!

It is well known that even though you are an RN it is very difficult to get a job right now...It may be easier to get a job in LTC right now because of high turnover but in my area it's difficult EVEN AS A NURSE!!!!

My nursing class was predominately 2nd career nursing students over the age of 35. It is so common now for people to change careers to nursing. I think it's great because there is a lot of flexibility if you have a family. I will never get used to working the holidays but as a newbie you usually get Christmas day and that's not always fun with little ones. I always volunteered for every holiday except Christmas so I was guaranteed to get to spend time with my son when Santa arrived! Nursing is very stressful and not fun most of the time but it's a solid career choice. You learn a trade and profession. Also the job market is bad right now but I'm sure by the time you graduate things will improve. Nursing school is very tough and I definetly gained a few wrinkles and gray hairs because of all the stress! But it goes by fast and it's worth it! My advice to you, become a nurses aid for 6 months in a nursing home and then decide. Work per diem so you can keep your current job. You will know after working there a couple of weeks if this is the right career choice for you...

I worked at a hospital with bedside reporting and Interdisciplinary rounds and it was great for communication between staff and great for patients and families. It also cut back on a lot of patient/family questions and concerns because they were kept up to date on everything that was happening. I was a new grad when I was there and it was very intimidating at first to give report in front of a bunch of people and present my patient at rounds but I quickly adjusted...

Have someone look at your resume. I had my sister tweek my resume and as soon as I did that I recieved two calls. She said my resume was awful, haha. Also always do a cover letter. Call hospitals and speak with nursing recruiter. If you can't find a job in a hospital, try assisted living, nursing homes, home health, psych, rehab. Any experience is good experience and it will help you find the job you want. I worked 3 years in assisted living facilities and I learned so much! I learned to be a charge nurse within 3 days of training and I had a huge variety of patients. I trained a few new grads at these facilities because they could not find jobs in hospitals...Also have you applied to per diem positions? Sometimes those jobs are easier to get and at least you can get your foot in the door. GOOD LUCK!!!

I was 25 when I started nursing school. Had just graduated with a BA in Anthropology and of course could not find a suitable job to help support myself. Nursing is a good career, so many opportunities and so much flexibility (hours, shifts). Well I guess not a lot of opportunities right now for a lot of unemployed nurses but hopefully that will change in the future...I graduated in 2006 and I had my choice of new grad programs in hospitals along with all my classmates but that has definetly changed.

My RN BSN graduating class had about 1/3 males. I think we are seeing more males as nurses now and the stereotype of nurses only being women is just that - a steretype!!

Congrats on your job offer and your son!!! Sounds like we did interview for the same position, small world! I also have looked into Mass also with no luck...I took some time off to be with my son then I started seriously looking a few months ago. went on interviews very similar to the above comment in manchester, nh and had the exact same questions. No detailed questions about labs, disease process, etc. Definetly make sure you ask questions at the end, they like that!! GOOD LUCK!!!! melmarie23 have you been looking for a job for awhile in nh?
