Question about PowerPoint formatting: I got marked down points for the title page not being formatted correctly. The sample template for PowerPoint has exactly the same elements I put on mine (Title, GCU, my name). She never posted anything that it should include anything different. Did I miss something? Is there supposed to be more information than that? I'm getting myself pretty upset over 1.87 points...but, would like to know for next time.

Moving to CA: How Do I Apply for Endorsement?
I have been getting ready to apply to CA BON for licensure by endorsement, and I would mention that the only livescan fingerprints they will accept must be performed in CA. There is a link to request a fingerprint card that you can take and get filled out, but the results of the background check from that route take longer (1-2 weeks vs 1-2 months, per their website). I am planning a visit to CA in the next few weeks, so I will be getting livescan done while there. Board of Registered Nursing - Fingerprint Information

I did The Mighty because I had never seen it. My character assessment was on Max Kane. Most people chose the other little boy who had obvious health issues, but I felt the psychosocial issues were more interesting that the physical ones (I am a psych nurse, after all ) Most people who chose this film chose the physically ill child, so there are at least 2 characters to chose from.

Prism, I drank the kool aid, too! I talk with my coworker who I am going through the program with, and she laughs at me, but I really do see the value in the degree.

My enrollment counselor @ GCU made my enrollment process SO easy. I decided I was going to enroll on Friday Dec. 19 and wanted to start the same day as a friend. He had me take pictures of my transcripts so they could do a credit evaluation, he walked me through every step. I started my classes 10 days later, on December 29. Pretty amazing considering they were closed for Dec. 24 and 25, as well as 2 weekends. PM me if you decide on GCU and want a super helpful and friendly counselor.

I am currently enrolled at Grand Canyon University, nearly half way done! The classes are 5 weeks each, with 2 discussion posts you answer and 6 posts that are responses to other students each week, one oby Wednesday and one by Friday. There is typically a "bigger" project due each week by Sunday. These have varied from papers 750-2000 words, brochures, flyers, etc. Most classes, but not all, have a group project. Depending on how much you care about the quality of work you turn in and your grade can be a tortuous process. I spend about 15 hours a week on school. There are 2 very active GCU threads here on AN. https://allnurses.com/nursing-online-distance/rn-to-bsn-854234.html https://allnurses.com/online-nursing-schools/grand-canyon-university-933306.html Pros: -5 weeks classes go by pretty fast -Letter grade -Tuition is affordable -Regionally accredited college, also accredited with Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education for RN to BSN/MSN tracks -my enrollment counselor and student services adviser have been very responsive -supportive folks on AN threads (above) have lots of tips and tricks to share that make it even easier -there's a real brick and mortar you can visit for graduation, and walk the stage (if that's important to you) -it's a Christian university (was not a factor for me, but important to some) -online program for class participation is solid, takes a bit of getting used to where to find things, but has never gone down on me -Tech support is AMAZING. I called them from my cell phone about a mistake I made in submitting a paper, and my signal failed. They called me back almost immediately! Cons: -group projects seem to always have at least one person who is MIA or who doesn't turn in the quality of work you do. Group projects are the bane of my higher education. -some instructors don't seem to be fully engaged in instructing, but this is likely the case in most online programs -all books are online only, and if they can be moved to Kindle, I haven't figured out how (as a possible pro, I've barely cracked a book, basically just used as a resource since the application for the eBooks has a handy search feature) Hope this helps!

Who's gone to Grand Canyon U RN - BSN?
I have a small child and work full time. I find it very very manageable, and I would agree with tokmom's time estimate. The majority of that time is spent working on the weekly project, which I do in one big block of time. I typically don't do anything in the class until Tuesday evening at the earliest but it's usually Wednesday evening (when the first post to discussion questions is due) so I can have at least a day or 2 of a break from the grind. I feel like GCU is the best bang for my buck, I get a letter grade and it doesn't cost that much more that the least expensive one I found, Western Governor's University. 5 weeks goes by so fast, and the way I understand it you can take a 2 week break after each class if you want but longer than 2 weeks takes more planning.

I once busted the 20% mark, simply changed my title, and not a single thing else, and was below the magic number.

So glad I am not alone...Crunch time is when my creative juices get flowing! In the first class we talked about what habits we were going to change, and I vowed to avoid procrastinating Yup, that lasted until about half way into the second class.

I am ending week 2 of leadership and management, and I am really struggling with this class. Abstract concepts and difficult for me anyway, but I also this class out of order, so I don't know if I missed some foundation information from research or ethics. I've managed to not have to read most of the assigned reading for the other 4 classes I've taken, so maybe I just need to pay more attention to the reading. Please someone tell me that this class was the one they struggled with too!

Numpties! Ha! I've never heard that, but I must find a way to incorporate that word into my life. I was just commiserating with a friend who is in the same class and the same CLC group as me. We have one person who has only ever checked into the forum once...8 days ago. She hasn't acknowledged her role in the project (she is to do the interview for community health CLC). I just texted her asking if she is still in the group. I also posted to the color forum that I did so, just so everything is accounted for. Between her and another group member who doesn't seem to understand the assignment, it's no wonder I feel like a babysitter instead of a peer.

So after talking to my SSA, I realized that my order of classes was out of the order they should be taken in. I am going through the course with a friend/coworker and after calling many times to ask them to make sure our classes were in synch and for same section, someone moved the classes around to keep us in synch. I don't need stats, she does but she doesn't need 451V, so they just moved that one up for me. If I took 451V before spirtuality, ethics, and research would it be a problem? Is there anything in those classes that I need to know for 451V? Currently I'm signed up for a week LOA, but we'll be out of synch when it comes to 451V if I take it when it's traditionally taken. Plus, with my mom's new diagnosis I don't want to "waste" a LOA in case I need it later.

I was mistaken about 451v being elective, because my coworker I am going through program with doesn't need it. The AMP450 class can be subbed out for a getcollegecredit (website, ends in com) upper division test. My SA suggested the 'substance abuse' one. Then you don't need to pay tuition for a class or bother with DQ's and lazy classmates on a CLC. (I have no idea of 450V has a CLC or not).

Thank you! I will see if I can find any of those links from Flames. I typically just call my enrollment counselor, who is such a great customer service provider, I recommend him to everyone considering GCU. Thank you for the point in the right direction.

Nursing leaderhip and management is next. Anyone taken this class? Can you recommend instructors? Intro to research is after that, and would love to know if you can recommend anyone for that class as well. I don't get on here too often, and will probably be even less now that my mom was just diagnosed with cancer and I'm going to start a new PRN position as well...My head is spinning trying to manage my life right now!

I don't need statistics but I DO need 36 GCU credits. So, I'm supposed to start NRS451 Nursing Leadership and Management next. Has anyone taken this class? Are there alternates? I guess I can call my SSA tomorrow but I'm thinking about it now, and it's Sunday. Also I've not been impressed with her ability to respond in a timely manner or have a knowlege base from which to answer questions. And you all are such a helpful bunch I heard something about a substance abuse class that you just test out of, but I think that's on my course list for my last class (Leadership and vocation?). If there is another test out class (so I can decrease my tuition bill that much more) that would be awesome.

How do you see who teaches what classes? Have you all had any luck requesting specific instructors? AND, in case you all are curious, after a message to the instructor asking her to grade my paper, she gave me 48%. After a few more back and forth messages re: why that grade (got 200/200 on the paper? Was it because it was late?) she graded me as if it had been turned in on time. SO glad that class is over, and I hope never to have another class with her. I wasn't able to complete the course exit survey (I guess I timed out because I had so much feedback I wanted to share). Now, onto Health Assessment. Instructor seems to be pretty involved, but we do have a TA, and I've heard that can be problematic. I hold out great hope that this experience cannot possibly be worse than my last class.

What books did you use?

A coworker was going to go to a 2 day seminar this weekend. I'll post about whether he thought it was worth it when I find out later in the week. The book from ANCC is more than I want to pay, but I guess I'll have to budget for it.

80% of Americans rate the honesty and ethics of nurses as high or very high
"Nurses have topped the list each year since they were first included in 1999, with the exception of 2001 when firefighters were included in response to their work during and after the 9/11 attacks. " from the Gallup website: Americans Rate Nurses Highest on Honesty, Ethical Standards
