  1. Delicate flower, Your manager sounds a lot like mine. Yes. Our manager is pushing everybody to the cliff.. Our floor is one of the worst place to work in our hospital. All of us, staff nurses are talking about leaving this floor soon. It is unbearable. It wasn't like this bad when I started working here about 2 years ago. All the help has been eliminated because of "not making enough money" according to the management. It is toxic environment to work. Upper management don't care about patient acuity--> That's what they told us. I am truly afraid that someday, something will happen to the patient and I am gonna be the only one who will be responsible for it (losing license over it). We all know that management will throw you in the jungle, if something happen to you, you are on your own. I have been running like a chicken with it's head cut off all the time..cuz I have to do everything like wiping patient's butt, giving pain med 1hr or q2hr for 3 or more patients in addition to new admission, hang IV antibiotic constantly, dressing change, answering call-bell, dealing with technical issue with the computer system, IV pump, bed...on and on.. We have 6:1 ratio but it looks like management are planning to give one more soon. I am skeptical about finding any regional hospital that can provide me decent working environment. Recently, all the nearby hospitals are doing same thing (eliminating the help such as CNAs, Charge nurse, secretary...etc). So unless for some nurses who are willing to travel long distance, we have to stuck in here or find different type of nursing work.
  2. I totally agree with you. I have been working on the Med-Surg floor for 1 1/2 years and stress level is getting worse even if I get out on time. It is depressing to see how nursing care is going...it is all about the Money and Profits. When I first start working, I didn't expect this will be the reality of working as a nurse. It doesn't matter how much you care about each one of your patient because the management and work-environment will not support your work-ethic, they will keep pushing you to test your limit. The quality of care is suffering due to short-staff and lack of help. It doesn't really matter to the management even if you have some high acuity patient and mentally ill patient who tried to get out of bed every 15min. We have to fill our bed as soon as possible. Many of new nurses left our floor after 1 or 2 years of experience. Sadly, we are simply considered as an expendable staff!
  3. It is true that the Floor Manager doesn't care even if you were working under a lot of stress due to short-staff and several high-acuity patients. They will just blame you for the mistake you made as if it is not acceptable under any circumstances. In my floor, they cut down all the help like a secretary and a charge nurse to increase profit. Every day, I feel like I am walking on the thin ice. It is just a matter of time, a patient will suffer one day. Oh yeah, The management will not appreciate you being honest about reporting med error, instead, they will fire you without feeling bad because they can always replace you with a new nurse fast. Hospital with union might be different.
  4. Hi... I need some advice on how to deal with this type of issue. I am a 41-years old single working mom of 5 years-old twins. I went through hard times like most of single mom did. When I got divorced I didn't have anything but myself and twins so I decided to go back to nursing school to become a RN to support my twins. I have been working as RN for a year and a half. I want to move out of my parents' house as soon as I finish my BSN in December because they've given me too much stress about everything from raising my kids to dating somebody...etc. My parents want everything the way they want. I work 3 night shift(7p-7am) and I go to class once a week to get my BSN. My parents are used to watch my twins while I am working at night. My twins will start kindergarten soon.. I just need some advice from single moms who went through same problems.. Where can I you put my twins while I am working at night or day if I don't get any help from family member? Because of my hours of working at night, it will be hard to find someone to watch my kids... Even if I find day-shift RN position, how can I find some place that open so early in the morning and give rides to my twins' school? Any ideas or Suggestions? Thank you..
  5. Hi HellooooRN, I also have same questions like you do..I will be working as a home care nurse soon. Only experience I had was Home Care CNA. Can anyone who started as Home Care RN(NEW Grad) tell me about homecare nurses please? I want to know everything about it. (starting pay, training, hours...etc.) Thank you
  6. I wanted to share my experience cuz I know for sure, many of you who just took NCLEX are going through same hell I went through. I took mine on Thoursday 8:00 am. I wasn't anxious at all because I thought I was ready for this...so I was expecting to see mine stop at 75 and pass..like majority of my classmates. But it didn't...it kept on going and going...beyond 100, 150, 180...so I was planning to do all 265 questions. However, it stopped at 185 and the screen went blue! After test, I felt horrible thinking that I might have failed this test since I went a lot longer than my classmates who passed NCLEX. First day after test seems like 1 year to me. I was going crazy, terrified and didn't want to talk to anyone. Two of my friends who already passed NCLEX told me to try pearsonvue trick if I couldn't wait for the quick result. So I tried PV trick and I got a good pop up. After I got good pop-up, I was able to breathe and function as a normal person. After 48 hours, when I check the quick result, I found out that I passed. So for those of you, who are going crazy after test, please try PVT. It will keep you from going insane. posted on 2/6/2013
