Travel Nurse Assignment in Houston
I have been an Operating room nurse for five years, i finally decided to try travel nursing, its something i always wanted to do. I have been offered an OR travel assignment in Houston, i haven't sign the contract yet because i am confused about the rate. The offer i got from the agency is $37.25, $22.25 is taxable and 15 dollars is tax free, they also include a $500 bonus $250 payable on my first check and other $250 on my last. The $15 is what they used to calculate my housing and meals. Therefore, i realized my take home is going to be $22.25 minus the tax. Is it me, or does this contract sucks? I am going to be travelling from Dallas to Houston, therefore, i have to find housing. I just don't want to take it unless its worth it, he came across as been rude and forceful when i wanted to go over the contract in details. He also mentioned that he went back to the hospital and negotiate my contract to offer me more money however, when i read the contract i realized it was the same thing he told me earlier just worded differently. Can someone please tell me about the housing cost in Houston Is this a good contract or is he taking advantage of the fact that i am a first time traveler? Thanks.

New Grad Stress
You're not annoying, you are going through what a lot of us go through fresh out of nursing school. I am sure if you made it out of nursing school you have heard the term "nurses eat their young" It's sad to say that we complain about the doctor's but in fact we are our worst enemy because we are not very supportive of each other. In terms of your nursing skills i can totally relate because not every skills you get to perform during nursing school, even if you do perform every skills you do not do it enough to be comfortable, this is what on the job training is about this is when we go from novice to expert, even when you become a season nurse you will find this as you change specialty or relocate and therefore, force to change job. I have been an RN for about 9 years and what help me when i started was the fact that i had excellent clinical teacher's, i was also a Lab Tech, Medical Secretary and nurses aide, which help me a lot with the medical terminologies, moving and positioning and diagnostic testing, even than it was still a challenge. My suggestion to you is that if you like General Medicine look for another General Medicine Job at another hospital, you don't want to be somewhere where you don't have the support as a new grad, beside in nursing just like anything else in life you of to find your niche. Furthermore, it seems like you're stress this can cloud your judgement and affect your ability to practice safely. Keep searching not all of us eat our young, somewhere out there in this profession of ours you will find the support you need that will bring you from a novice to an expert.

Ever accepted a position knowing it was a mistake?
Oh my gosh!!....i thought i was alone, few months ago i took a position because i was anxious to land a job. Although, i got several call back they were the first to interview so anxiously in need i took the position. It was the worst decision i ever made in my eight and half years in nursing. I had a wonderful interview experience, during the interview it felt more like a conversation with a friend than a manager, a mean it was very relax, the first week of hospital orientation the staff was warm and friendly i thought this was the place to be.....Oh my gosh was i ever wrong!. The second week i started orientation in my department i knew then that it was not going to work out. However, i have kids so i kept convincing myself otherwise. I am now almost four months in and i am frustrated as hell, i can't continue for the sake of my mental health. They have an extremely high turnover rate, there are very little season are permanent nurses there. Most of the permanent staff are under a year, the handful of season staff are frustrated and unwilling to train new staff; in their words to be exact "i am just a couple of years left before i am out the door", more than half the staff are agency. As if it couldn't get any worst try doing an orientation where you are being trained by agency staff whom have only been there a weeks or two before you. Thank god for all nurses! I can debrief.

CGFNS
I do understand that things takes time, but i am finding their time frame ridiculous. I was told it takes 10 business days after receiving a document before it can be posted to my profile...are they serious!! Really 10 days!! Just ridiculous!! I got an offer so the faster they process my Visa Screen the better for me. I feel so sorry for you, hope you don't have to lose your fee with the BON.

CGFNS
It's been one week since i got delivery confirmation that they received my photo, and its still not uploaded unto my file. I got an email today that its still outstanding. It's frustrating!!!

CGFNS
I did my Credential Evaluation Report (CES Report) it took about 11 weeks for them to issue the report; I kept calling because they told me 6-8 weeks. What upsets me is that, they had all my documentation and i was educated in Canada, across the broader. Each time i call the representative was rude, he kept saying i had to be patient and if i know how to use the computer to view my status. Finally, after much perseverance he acknowledged that he didn't know why it was taking so long. I had to do a Visa Screen application as well, because they already have my documentation for the CES, all that is required is a photo and proof of passing the NCLEX. I asked the Representative if it would be faster since i already have a file with CGFNS, to my surprise he replied "What makes you think you are going to get it that quickly" and continue to speak in a rude manner. I was shock by his rude comments for an organization such as this.

This is just too much!!!
Thanks so much, i believe that's what it is the Nursing Jurisprudence Exam. I was told that it is an open book however, i studied so hard for the Nclex, that i don't want to see another book or test anytime soon. What made everything so difficult is that i have been in the Operating Room for the past 4-5 years so i had to really studied the other areas. I just need to breathe!!

This is just too much!!!
Finally got the authorization to take my test after waiting months and months for my credentials to be verified, because i am a foreign graduate nurse......I booked my test on Friday June 10/2011....What an horrible day it was, i forgot to print the attachment section of my ATT letter therefore, i couldn't write the test without it, the lady at the center sent me to the Fedex down the street to print it off, lucky for me i had the e-mail saved, i got it printed and went back to the center, after about 11/2 hours into the test, the computer gave me an error message and i could continue until they fixed it. A voice inside of me said "why don't you just go home" i belive it was Satan himself, i ignored it and continue my test, as if it couldn't get any wrost i ran out of time with twenty questions to go. I left the test center crying, praying and extremely faustrated. Anyways it turned out that i passed, surely it was the grace of god that allowed me to pass, because i couldn't have done it on my own. After all that!! Today i was told by the Texas broad that i have to complete a test online, about Nursing Laws and Rules. Just great!!! It's as if it's never going to end...This is just too much!!!

Things you'd LOVE to tell coworkers...and get away with it!
I am tired of aide/ LVN telling me that i think i am all that because i am an RN, whenever, i make an assignment or ask about a patient's status........the truth if you have a problem with your role so much , why don't you go back to school?.....The RN title wasn't created for me only......it's there for anyone who wants it....if you think our jobs as RN or so easy and we act as if we are all that......go back to school dear......i say this time and time again, that i am all for continuing education......if you are not comfortable in your role instead of coming to work being bitter and making my life along with my colleagues life miserable, go back to school dear, just go back to school......Its there for everyone!!!

Things you'd LOVE to tell coworkers...and get away with it!
My sentiment exactly.

Things you'd LOVE to tell coworkers...and get away with it!
Well said!!!.....there are times i want to say these things to a co-worker, but i have to remember that professional code of conduct.... on the other hand i don't want to be label as the mean nurse. The reality is there are some nurses that take advantage of their co-workers, always want help but never have the time to offer any etc.. Thank god for Allnurses, because sometimes we just simply need to vent its therapeutic...the nurses that have a problem with this are perhaps the advantage takers.

So i final got my authorization to test, i have been waiting for this for quite sometime. The moment finally arrived and i am overwhelmed. I have been studying, and studying even before i got the authorization to test.....Its like no more, please no more!! I pasted my nursing exam the first time 8 1/2 years ago, i would like to past the Nclex the first time. However, the more i study i feel like i haven't done that much, especially since i haven't work in some areas like Peds and Maternity. I don't know if its because i am eight years older now are its just a lot of content. Anyone studying for the exam feel like this?
