  1. Yeah they do, they require the PAX entrance exam. I thought it was relatively easy though, I got a 95 on it.
  2. Congrats!! I'm excited! Do you know how many people they accept each year?
  3. Yeah, I got accepted! How about y'all?
  4. I called yesterday and they said they are planning on the letters going out the week of the 21st, only a week and a half left!!
  5. Momo- I called and they're not allowed to tell how long the wait list, all the lady said was that "there are a lot of names on it".. She said that they have gone over halfway through the wait list before, although it is highly rare. She told me that it varies from year to year with how many names they go to on the wait list. But what someone did let me know when I emailed a while back is that I'm halfway down on it. So if you email one of the nursing advisers at the school asking that, that may help. Because if you're high on the list you may want to consider waiting and pushing your chances for getting in! Let me know if you find out anything else!
  6. Ahh hopefully it'll come sooner than that! I'm super anxious about hearing back from any of the nursing schools I applied to. I'm contemplating going to the open house the 26th of this month. Because if I don't get in to the nursing school then going to the open house would have been pointless. But it's looking like I won't find out about my acceptance till after that anyways so I'll probably end up going. Are you going to the open house? I just got a postcard in the mail today about it.
  7. Yes Please! Keep those fingers crossed Does anyone know how long the wait list is? All I was told was that I'm about half way down on the list.. But that list could be 5 people, it could be 20 people.. So I really don't know what my chances are..
  8. Hey! I have applied to Dalton State College's Nursing Program for Fall 2011 and was wondering if anyone else had applied previously and when they got their letters? I'm getting anxious and haven't seen anything else on this website about when people have gotten their letters about being accepted or not. So I'm hoping some previous/current students or people who have applied can let me know around what time they started hearing from the school! Thanks!
  9. Some career's aren't for everyone but if you haven't been trying long I wouldn't give up just yet! The fact that you got an 89 on the TEAS shows that you're VERY smart! I had to retake a few classes to bring my GPA up, maybe you should try that? What makes you think you should rethink careers? And how many nursing schools did you apply to?
  10. Well I'm surprised your TEAS score didn't balance out the GPA some, an 89 is INCREDIBLE! But they consider the GPA a little more than I hoped too, because even with a 3.5 I wasn't accepted..
  11. Yeah commuting isn't fun but at least there isn't much traffic going up to Dahlonega! The only thing I can think of for why I wasn't accepted is the fact that I retook 3 classes that I originally had 2 C's and a B in... I guess that was weighted against me because without those calculated in my GPA I have a 3.6, but with those it's around a 3.3. Most nursing schools only calculate the highest grade only when evaluating, so I figured I would be okay, but I guess North Georgia calculates both in. Stinks for me! And if changing campuses so late hurt me as well, then that's a double whammy against me. But I'm hoping that didn't hurt my chances, because the lady I spoke with made it seem like it wasn't a big deal because they hadn't gotten to my application yet.
  12. Congrats!! What was your GPA and TEAS? Was it your first time applying? And which location too? Sorry for all the questions! I'm just trying to figure out why I wasn't accepted
  13. Haha Well I'm glad yours worked out well! Did you get accepted?
  14. Jody, you have a higher GPA and TEAS score than me though. The GPA isn't too much of a difference but 6 points on the TEAS is a pretty big difference when you get into the 80s. But Congrats!! I'm thinking the same thing about the campuses, I kind of regret changing the campus so late but I plan on asking that too when I talk to someone. The lady I talked to said it wasn't too late because they hadn't reviewed mine yet and that's why they let me change so late but they may have already had all the applicant spots taken for the dahlonega campus by the time I switched. I'm not sure though.
  15. Their main one in Dahlonega. I actually had the Gainesville location first, but called about 2 weeks ago to switch because even though Dahlonega is an hour away, there's no traffic going up there and back, so I switched. But I was pretty surprised too, just from what I've read on different discussions with what people were accepted with, I though I had a pretty good chance, but nope. I got a B/B in A&P I and A/A in A&P II and have all A's in the other core classes, and Im taking micro right now. The only thing I'm thinking, is that they look at all attempts made on classes. I had 2 C's and 1 B I retook and got A's in (Eng 1101, Math 1111, Psych 1101), but most nursing schools will only look at the highest attempt and throw out the rest. So I was hoping North Georgia would too, but I guess my first attempts hurt my chances. I want to call up and ask but I feel like everyone is calling with questions, so I'd hate to bother them more. But it's going to drive me crazy not knowing..
  16. For the people who have been accepted, How many times have you applied to North Georgia's nursing program and been placed on the wait list? This was my first time applying and I was put on the wait list. But I have a 3.65 and got a 80 on the TEAS V. I think they favor people who have been on the wait list for multiple semesters over first time applications, does anyone else think so too?
  17. B-Dog, Thanks for some great advice as well. I am willing to do any and everything to help my chances, so thank you for your help! Thanks Wolfpack as well, I'll remember that when I start working as an RN. I can imagine that will be important as well.
  18. Yep, nothing for me either yet! I say don't check till next Monday. Especially since the lady I spoke with was only hopeful that they would go out at the end of this week, not certain they would. Unless you live really close to the campus, the chances of you getting the letter on Saturday are slim. So I say, don't keep driving yourself crazy! Enjoy your weekend, keep yourself busy and relaxed and wait till Monday to check! That's my plan :) haha
  19. I couldn't remember the name of the book I used, but I just looked it up. Its: McGraw-Hill's Nursing School Entrance Exams: National League for Nursing Pre-Admission Examination (NLN PAX-RN); Nurse Entrance Test (NET); Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS); Psychological It's selling for $8.73 right now before shipping. This book helped a TON!
  20. I took the PAX about a month ago and did pretty well. I realized the science is weighted the heaviest. I got a 77 (around there, can't remember) in math, and a 87 ( again, can't remember specifically) in english, and got a 97 on the science and I came out with a 95 over all. CRAZY! I didn't do well in the science area on the TEAS but got a book and studied a lot before the PAX and it helped. Like all of you, I've done well in my college course sciences but the kinds of questions on these entrance exams are all from high school bio and what not, how do they expect us to remember those things?! But the book that I got was a HUGE help, it went over all of those science topics in detail that I haven't had since high school and it helped reteach me those things. I would definitely suggest getting a book and studying it for at least a month before you take it again. The book I had came with practice tests and explained how the PAX was set up and how each section is graded and all that.. go to http://www.half.com and search PAX study guides. My book covered the PAX and TEAS and something else all in one book and it was great and only about $18 with shipping. But don't give up hope, keep working hard, and study a review book and you'll pass with flying colors next time! Good Luck!
  21. Another question Rabid Response- Is there a certain type of volunteer work that would help me the most when applying? Like is it better to volunteer in a hospital, or is volunteering in the community anywhere just as effective in making my application stand out? Thanks!
  22. Rabid Response- Thanks so much! That is a lot of great advice, and I will definitely be taking all of it. I posted on the CRNA forum because that's the best place I can get advice for this profession. Going to the Pre-Nursing forum and asking these questions would get me no where because they have as much experience and knowledge about it all as I do, which is close to nothing! I'm asking now (before I'm even a nurse) because I want to do all I can as early as I can to help my chances, because I know how insanely competitive these programs are. Things like getting my CSC and CMC are things I would not have thought about on my own, or making sure I have a good amount of community service as well, which is why I came to this forum to ask! I know maintaining relationships with my teachers, future employers, and future coworkers is very important because of needing recommendation letters, and getting as close to straight A's as I possibly can is very important as well but these other things you've listed and the others have listed too are things I wouldn't have thought of this early on on my own. So thank you so much for your very helpful response!
  23. Hey everyone! I'm joining this a little late but I also applied to North GA for this fall! I talked to someone in the nursing department today and they said they're hoping letter's go out by the end of this week! I'll be checking my mail box every day! I have heard different things about their nursing school and instructors too, I'm hoping they've made some changes and things will be better this fall. I'm not too worried about it though, I don't think it could really be that terrible.
  24. Kah5209- I've had a couple surgeries myself and the most interesting part to me was meeting the anesthesiologist and nurse anesthetists and talk to them about what they would be doing and how it would affect my body. I kept asking more and more questions because all of it was so interesting and fascinating to me. I've always wanted to be a nurse, mainly because I love helping people, but never really knew what I wanted to specialize in. I originally thought of becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner because I love kids, but I have talked to many nurses who did the same thing and so many of them changed their specialty because of dealing with terrible parents.. Ha! But that is still my second option because I still think I would enjoy that, but I think becoming a CRNA would always keep me interested and enjoying my job. Brandon- I hadn't thought about CNA before, I was originally thinking of becoming a certified pharmacy technician. Would that help because I would be around and learning different drugs and what not or do you think CNA would still be better? I think you're right, CNA could help me get into the hospital I want to work at and give me experience already in the hospital when I want to switch to ICU when I get my RN. Mrshouse- Thanks! I will definitely look into taking some of those classes, I want to do all I can with how competitive CRNA programs are! None of the BSN programs require physics or biochem so it's nice to find out now that taking these will help me in the long run.
  25. I am a traditional sophomore in college right now, and am hoping to start nursing school in the fall. I am wondering how much my first year will effect me when applying? In my freshman year I got 4 C's, 3 B's, and 1 A. But within the last year I have retaken 2 C's and one B to get A's in those three courses. I have been joint enrolled in two schools taking upwards of 26 credit hours in one semester and I have gotten all A's minus one B in A&P1. Most Nursing schools I have applied to take the highest grade attempt and don't count the other attempts or look at any classes that don't count as prerequisites. So if I calculate my GPA like they will, I have a 3.68 I believe. But I don't know if the fact that I had to retake a few classes and did so lousy my freshman year will affect me with my applications to nursing schools? Will it look bad and hurt me or not make a difference because they don't count the other attempts toward my GPA? I have tried so hard and done really well this last year, but like the typical freshman I didn't try as hard as I should have and I completely regret it now!
