KSU accelerated RN program Spring 2012
Congratulations everyone on your acceptance!! I am a first semester student in the accelerated program. Last May, I was in your shoes. I was so excited and wanted to get everything done as soon as possible- I couldn't wait to get started! My advice would be to RELAX while you can! You will have plenty of time to get things taken care of when you get your orientation info in the mail. The only thing I did ahead of time was get my stethoscope. Please feel free to pm me any questions you may have about the program. Enjoy your free time while you still can, lol. I absolutely love being a student at KSU and have met people who I know will be lifelong friends. If you want to get involved with our student nurse associations, you can check out NSNA and GANS. These are state and national organizations. There is a fee to join, but it is definitely worth it. KSU SNA is free to join. Also, pre-nursing students can join the state and local organizations so spread the word Again, congrats and I hope to see you at orientation!

Kennesaw State Fall 2011
"Buy a recorder to record your lectures in Patho. I suggest one that will download onto your computer." Haha, I'm on my iPad and couldn't figure out how to to quote just a small part of ugabelle's post, so I just had to copy and paste... I just wanted to let know that I used the "in class" app on my iPhone last semester in A&P to record my lectures and they came out really clear. Another positive thing is that you can sync the notes (audio and/or video) with iTunes on your computer so you don't have huge HD audio files taking up space on your iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, etc. You can also share notes with others who have the app (I think it goes directly into thir notes section of the app, but I haven't tried it yet). I just wanted to pass this along as it was really helpful last semester and it may be a good way to keep audio files if you like to record lectures. Btw- it's a free app and there's an in app purchase to get rid of the ads. Thanks ugabelle for the great info!! I'm so excited about started, but a little nervous about the difficulty of the material. Bye bye free time, lol. I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end when we will be able to call ourselves RN's.

Thanks! It's an outpatient procedure and I should be feeling better within a week...hopefully :sstrs: haha Also, thanks for the link on the CPR class. At least I can work on that and tracking down my immunization records from my last employer. August will be here before we know it! Does anyone have anything exciting planned before the semester begins?

Kennesaw State Fall 2011
Thanks lmt4now and gtqueen for the info! I was wondering when we would hear about orientation and the list of things we need to buy. I was so excited when I got my acceptance letter that I ordered myself a stethoscope, lol. Other than than that, I'm sure there's lots to do. Sings&Shoots I am also a planner by nature and want to get things figured out. I just found out I need surgery and I will be doing that in about 2 1/2 weeks. Hopefully I can make it to the CPR certification with others starting in the fall (if a group a people go together). I look forward to meeting everyone soon!

Med/surg new grad positions
I just wanted to let people know that I was browsing jobs and I stumbled across 12 new grad med/surg positions at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton. They were posted on the 8th. I do not qualify yet, since I will be just starting my absn program in the fall. I just thought I would pass it along. Best of luck to everyone in this tough job market!

Kennesaw State Fall 2011
Thanks, ugabelle for all the info! I was kind of surprised to see that I only got 2 pieces of paper in the mail yesterday. I saw the thin envelope and thought the worst. I guess I expected to get all the orientation info and everything too. I'm glad it's coming later. I registered yesterday for nurs3209 and nurs3309. I couldn't register for 4402. I got the same error message you got, sings&shoots. I am taking pathophys this summer. Anyone else taking it? I am surprised that nurs4402 is online. Seems kind of intimidating to be taking a research class online

Kennesaw State Univeristy application for 2011
Hi everyone. I just found out I was accepted for Fall 2011, accelerated program. Yay! Congratulations everyone on your acceptance. You all must be so excited about starting this summer. I am taking pathophysiology this summer to make my fall semester a little less crazy, well if there is such a thing in nursing school. I just wanted to say hi I will see you all this summer, and throughout the program. Yay for the December 2012 class!

Kennesaw State Fall 2011
My letter just came, i'm accepted for the accelerated program!!! I can't believe it! Sorry to hear that vyockey. You made it so far this round, so you must have had strong grades and TEAS score. I have heard that the advisors are really good about helping students strengthen their application. I know F has been such a big help over the past year for me.

I'm anxiously awaiting that letter! Nevermind finals, thinking about this letter is taking up more space in my mind than chemistry, etc lol. Hopefully they will be mailed by tomorrow!

Me too! I am sitting in the commons and I can't help but wondering what is being decided in the building next to me. I can't believe they are deciding so soon. It will be good to know, but I kind of hope I find out after finals. I have one final down and 5 to go while waiting on a big decision, aaahhh! Best of luck to everyone. We made it so far already!

Kennesaw State Fall 2011
Glad to hear it went well, bmd. Now time to wait...again. At least we won't have to wait nearly 3 months for the next decision! Thanks for the directions too. I was wondering where that room was. I saw some confused people walking around in nice dresses and suits this morning in the Prillaman building. That would have been me Good luck tomorrow, sings&shoots!

Kennesaw State Fall 2011
Thanks vyockey for posting the questions and the link. It was very helpful. And thanks ugabelle for the congrats and info about the interview. I had my mock interview today at the career services center and I am glad that I did it. The person videotaped the "interview" and gave me feedback after. She asked me: why do you want to be a nurse? What qualities does a nurse have? Tell me about a situation where you had to make a diffiult decision. Tell me about a situation that challenged your ethics. And some follow up questions to these. Interestingly, she basically told me that I need to be more brief and get to the point with my answers. I already knew that I talk too much, lol. It was good seeing myself on the video and I hope it helps next week! How is everyone doing with anticipating the upcoming interviews? I think I'm more nervous now than ever! Ugabelle- if you remember, what questions did they ask you at your interview?

Kennesaw State Fall 2011
Haha, so true. I am definitely still really nervous! Did anyone sign up for a mock interview? I signed up for one on the 5th. From reading prior threads it seems like people found them really helpful.

Kennesaw State Fall 2011
The waiting is stressful, but I feel like we will be finding out soon. For all current KSU, happy spring break! And for non-KSU students, I hope you have your break soon and can relax :) I am off to Massachusetts this week to move all my things down to Ga. Hopefully we will find out soon after this week.

Kennesaw State Fall 2011
That is good news! I applied to both the accelerated and traditional program. I hope there's a chance for an interview with one of them :) For some reason, I thought they accepted less than that. I would like to go to the career fair. Monday is going to be a hectic day! I have an A&P test at 8 am, a lab practical at 10, and chemistry at 12:30. I will be beat by 1:30 but I think it will be beneficial to go. Anybody know if casual school clothes is appropriate?

Kennesaw State Fall 2011
I hear ya, sreed. Hopefully we can make up for the early parts of our academic career. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I guess all I can do now is wait. Hopefully Fran can give some advice if things don't work out this time. April can't come soon enough! At least spring break is soon. It will be nice to be away from school for a bit. :)

Kennesaw State Fall 2011
I got that email and started counting all the email addresses too! I can't believe how many were on there. I have really been stressing lately about my overall GPA. I had a rough start to my college career, but I turned things around and got a masters degree in clinical psychology. Too bad they don't look at any graduate work. I still have a weak overall undergrad gpa, but most schools would think that I "fixed" things by bringing my gpa up enough to get into grad school and successfully complete a degree. I looked back over all my undergrad course work (about 140 hours total) and I think my gpa from all my schools is only around a 3.1, maybe 3.2 depending on how they count it. If I try to bring that up, I would have to take years of undergrad work even though I have been acing my science classes. Any advice on where to go with this? If I don't get an interview this time around I may make an appointment with Fran. I hope the awful years I had from 2000-2002 doesn't keep me from getting into a nursing program! At least I will have an answer either way by April.

Wow, that does seem really late. I was hoping to hear something either way in early March. I will definitely be on the edge of my seat until April! aahhh
