  1. Hi All! Please attend orientation. It is assumed that it is mandatory and you will get lots of information given to you. The Student Nursing Association (SNA) about 30-35 students will be on hand to help with tours and answer any questions you have. Please only bring yourself. You are being provided food and no one is planning for you to bring "companions"....this is an opportunity for you all to meet your class and become acclimated to school and the faculty. It will be a blur but we will try our best to make it as informative as possible. I also recommend signing up for a mentor if you have not already. You will have the opportunity to sign up for one on Thurs as well as committees to become involved in the SNA. Please bring cash or check...we will be selling some fun things that I am sure you will want to buy. There will also be some students selling their books for much cheaper than the bookstore if you are interested. Welcome and we look forward to meeting all of you on Thursday!!
  2. Orientation is not for husbands, wives, or parents....just you students.
  3. They are no longer accepting summer applicants...only fall and spring. I would definitely talk to the advisors. F will help you figure out where you stand. I know when I got in, she told me to get at least an 85 on the TEAS V. There are certain things you can change quickly to make you more competitive and that is one of them. If you don't get a letter to interview for fall, don't be discouraged, make an appointment and find out what you can do. I belies the deadline for fall is coming up so I would get everything in. Good luck!!!
  4. Also, remember you need to pass your competencies to continue in holistic. Same goes for Adult health secod semester and for senior checkoffs. You will have to drop the class and pick it up when the next one is available so just practice practice practice..you do get 3 times but people do fail...even the most competent....just utilize the lab hours and you will all do great!!!
  5. Hello my little Nurselets!!! I know you are all excited for your acceptance letters and it probably feels like this has been a long time coming. Believe me, we were all there. I would say wait doing anything until you receive your letters from the nursing office about all the requirements you need. You should have received them, if not, they are coming soon. On behalf of SNA, I want to welcome you all to the program and we look forward to seeing you all! The SNA board and members will be on hand at orientation to help answer questions and probably give tours. You will have the opportunity to try on uniforms at that time as well. We will set up a facebook page for you. This will probably be done by Orientation. Definitely start looking at the Calculating with Confidence book. You will get a list of the specific chapters to review during Orientation. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to msg me. I am currently your new President of SNA and I hold a state office on the Board for GANS (Georgia Association of Nursing Students) so I will definitely try to point you in the right direction. I do hope you all consider getting involved. If you are interested in leadership positions.. the board will be looking to elect a class representative for your class. If this is something of interest, we will be announcing it at orientation. Also, bring your money to buy t-shirts, fleeces and badge reels! We look forward to having you join our family!!!
  6. I'm beginning to think we didn't get it since we haven't heard anything. Did either of you email or call and get a response of any kind?
  7. I know! My tuition is due in a couple of weeks and inbred to buy books! I emailed yesterday and have heard nothing! Can't believe how long this is taking!
  8. When do you all graduate? How did you find out about this scholarship? I had a friend who actually received it a couple years ago and it seemed like an awesome program...do you know what area you would like to work in? I am thinking L&D for me but keeping my options open...I hope we hear something soon either way...
  9. I went ahead and sent Sharon an email to see if we would hear this week or next and if any decision had been made...I'll let ya'll know if she writes back!
  10. Only 9 of us applied??? Wow! I left Sharon a msg on Monday but haven't heard anything....the waiting is killing me!
  11. Still nothing....have you heard if they called your references yet?
  12. I hear ya!!! I got the email also about Sharon being out of the office. I would have thought by now...I am on pins and needles! When did you interview and how did you feel about it? Sharon said 9-10 were interviewing and they were taking 4, maybe 5!! Good luck!!! So I guess no news is good news:) fingers crossed!!! how doyou like Emory? I couldn't afford that.. Lol!!! I'm at KSU and just finished my 1st semester...summer is a beast in itself and to start in the summer is even crazier but I made it!
  13. Hey All! I was wondering if anyone has applied or interviewed for the Northside Scholars Leadership Program through Northside Hospital. If so, have you heard back? I interviewed and got an email last week that they should have the decision this week but haven't heard. Or if anyone has received this in the past, how long does it usually take and do they let you know either way.
  14. I am not allowed to send out the Davis patho notes since I'm on SNA but you can go on fb to one of the previous classes and ask someone to send them...believe me, someone can send them...
  15. They will probably open it up for you soon...The school has to submit your info to Pearson and Pearson.
  16. Hi All! I started this summer and want to congratulate all of you! Get ready to hit the ground running. First off, some things you can work on now and get out of the way. 1. All immunizations updated. You can go to the clinic at KSU 2. Sign up for Drug and Background check...DON'T take the drug test. You will take this the 1st week of school 3. Buy the Calculate with Confidence book. And start practicing...You need a 90 on the math test. You can only miss 1 question. What people mess up on are the rounding rules. Look at the KSU handbook for nursing online and it will discuss the rules. If you don't make a 90 on your 2nd try, you have to drop Holistic and you cannot take it until Spring. Unfortunately, what you make the 1st time is what you get as a grade. You can make a 100 so don't worry. 4. Start reviewing your A&P. The physiology part. Patho is no joke so if you haven't had A&P in awhile, brush up on it. 5. Make sure to get your student ID and your parking pass. They won't mention this at orientation 6. Get the health insurance if you already don't have it. Should be listed in the letter you get or one of the emails. 7. For uniforms, they will send the info in the letter and you will order them from Meridy's. They will also have a day you can come to campus to try on sizes since they run big. Buy 2 of the white. Also get the lab coat. You can wait on the black scrubs but I went ahead and ordered them. You will not wear black scrubs your 1st semester. 8. Buy all white leather tennis shoes. I got mine at Kohl's...they have a little grey on them. Don't freak out thinking they have to be all white...the logo can be grey. 9. Buy your stethoscope and get a watch with a 2nd hand 10. Hold off on buying anything that goes in the nursing kit. You will have to buy 2 kits. One is a green bag and the other is a blue bag. The green kit will be used for Health Assessment and Holistic and the Blue kit is for Holistic and your competencies. They need to be purchased at the bookstore on campus. 11. Buy a recorder to record your lectures in Patho. I suggest one that will download onto your computer. 12. Also, find someone to send you the student patho notes from Davis. It's 190 pages but you want to use this. Have them copied and bound. Will cost about $20 but you will use them for every lecture. The notes are literally his lecture word for word. 13. Join your class FB page...you will communicate on this! Also, everyone helps everyone.you are in this together...no competing against each other...You will not survive nursing school if you are not willing to pay it forward. 14. Have fun!!! GEt to know your class and plan things....you need to let loose and celebrate milestones as a class. After you start the semester, you will have ATI tests to turn in and medcom modules for Holistic. I suggest you work on these early in the semester and get them out of the way. Also, practice practice practice in lab to pass your competencies. You will have 4 areas of competencies that are pass/fail 1. Range of Motion 2. Asepsis (sterile technique) 3. Med prep 4. Med Admin Everyone in our class passed at least 2 the first time. Shoot for 2. You get 3 chances. The good thing is that you only have to retest the areas you missed. They will explain in more detail as you start but you will freak out about it. Don't! Just practice. Nursing school is about application. You can't just read it to understand it. Now you want to pass all of them within the first 2 times so you can free up your time to study. Take advantage of the mentor programs. Also, get involved in the SNA. Someone will need to be elected from your class to be the rep. If you are interested, let them know at orientation. I am sure they will ask. I know it seems like a lot. Take it day by day if not hour by hour. Everyone is here to help and we all want you to succeed!!! Best of luck and I am sure I will see you all at orientation! BTW-Our summer class is the last class that will take summer classes. They have changed the policy since it is so overwhelming to take a full schedule in the summer. Now all classes will take summers off. I am not sure they are going to allow later classes to take anything next summer unless it's a reserach or electives.
  17. Virginia, I just looked back and your stats are awesome! And you knew the questions they were asking. Definitely just practice, practice practice! And get on the job shadowing immediately, I think that would make it easier for you to discuss things in the interview and I see no reason why you would not get an interview for Spring. Include your name, tell them you are a nursing student interested in job shadowing, what areas you would like, and to send you information. I can tell you that you will need to be updated on vaccinations and your TB before you would be allowed to shadow. If you have all of that current, you can fax it in. Your TB test must be less than a year old but i know you can get the skin test at KSU clinic for $5.
  18. Virginia, I don't think the lack of experience is the reason. That is what school is for. You are not expected to have the experience yet but definitely look at job shadowing. Northside has a program. I will tell you my interview questions were pretty much the same the second time. My first interview was not as good as I would have liked. Probably the 102 temp had something to do with it. I strongly suggest meeting with F. If you are able to complete more of your classes and make A's before the next round, that will be so helpful for you Pre-reg GPA and possibly your math/science GPA. Remember they are looking at 5 areas each worth 20%. Overall GPA 20% Pre-req (12) GPA 20% best of 7 Math/science GPA 20% (5) TEAS 20% Interview 20% So for me, I made an A in micro and that improved both my math and my pre-req GPA. Also, I had to retake the TEAS. Remember, they only accept version 5 now. Not sure what your score was but get it above 85. It will make you more competitive. If you haven't already, buy the book that ATI sells. It has everything you need and definitely brush up on cell stuff. To prepare for the interview, remember what they asked you this past time. Make a list of all the questions you see on these threads and write out what you want to say. Relate every single question back to how that skill or qualification is essential to nursing. Have personal examples. They don't want generic. You want to stand out from the rest. Hospital volunteering will help. Look online and email and they will set you up to shadow a nurse. This is a great way to weave in some story into your interview and honestly that might lead to more questions about that versus the set questions they ask. If you do email Northside, you literally need to stalk the woman to get an answer. When I say stalk. I mean call, email and call again until she responds. I hope that helps. Don't give up! God ultimately has our path planned out even though we may want it sooner than later.
  19. Sorry for all the typos..iPhone likes to autocorrect...let me know if any of you have any questions...I will be more than happy to try and help since I am about to have orientation next week and start classes jun 1st
  20. You won't be able to register. F will secure your classes and they will send a checklist for you in about a month. You can see the checklist online. I believe it is under clinicals. You will have to get immunizations updated, vaccines of needed and a background check, along with a drug test that you will take once you start school. Orientation will probably be a month before classes start. Within the letter, you also get info on ordering uniforms and your stethoscope....believer they will let you know so don't worry about that. Just male sure you are completely accepted at KSU and everything was processed correctly just to be on the safe side...hope that helps a little:)
  21. Congrats to those who received letters!!! Keep checking your mailboxes!!! Those who don't get on, do not let this discourage you! Make an appt with F and she will sit down with you and be very honest and realistic if she thinks you have a chance...it could be something as easy as retaking your Teas and scoring better on your interview. You got the interview so you obviously have what it takes. Just tweak that one area! I had to retake my teas and nail my interview and I got in on my second try. Don't be ashamed to try again. I know several people who have had to do that. This program is one of the hardest, if not the hardest in the state to get into. Just stay positive!
  22. Hi All! I know you are all anxiously awaiting for the mailman. I know for summer that most of us found out on Feb 14th. We interviewed a little over 3 weeks earlier to that so you are exactly 3 weeks to the date that interviews happened. My guess is that if they were meeting last Wednesday, letters more than likely went out this week. They are dealing with the end of the semester and the summer class has orientation next week. My bet is that letters would reach you all by sat and the first part of next week. It just seems that they are always running about a week behind from what they say. Best of luck everyone!!! It has been a long hard road but you are almost there! And you will cry in relief and excitement when you get that letter, believe me!
  23. Hi All, I look forward to meeting everyone next week! If anyone applied for scholarships at Kennesaw, I found out last week that letters will go out instead of emails if you received a scholarship. They said you should be hearing something within the next 2 weeks if you are chosen. Good luck to those that applied! I am not holding my breath but I figure it is good to know that it will not be posted on our student email and we need to look in the mail. I can't believe we start in a month!
  24. Is anyone going to campus next Tues to get their uniforms? I have my physical at 1:30 and then KSUhopeful and I will probably meet up! If anyone does, let me know. I would love to start meeting everyone! I'm Heather so look for me!!!
