  1. I am in North Carolina and I actually have an RN to MSN student doing her public health clinincal rotation with me. I work at an adult day care facility as a Health Coordinator. You might look in your area to see if you have anything like this available.
  2. Good Luck, I got my RN degree from Excelsior in 1996. It was an intense experience, but very doable. Right now I am completing my degree in Public Health online through American Public University. I love online learning. The only advice I would give you is to keep up with your studies, try not to put anything off, and read, read, read, everything that they provide. Also, get clarification for anything that you have questions about. I'm sure you"ll do fine.
  3. Time Off! I started in a float pool and felt very inadequate for a year or two. Every time I thought I had a floor figured out, staff or policies changed. I had to work very hard to keep a positive outlook for myself. I looked at the more varied experience as a plus and made it my business to learn all I could. Having said that, you have to take care of yourself. Remember why you went into nursing and rediscover your joy. You may need a mental health day or week, but don't give Up! HUGS to you.
  4. The practice cunsltant at BON is an edcelleent resource. I consult her all the tme. In this day and age, I say better safe than sorry.
  5. My facility came out with a new policy for incident reporting after somthing happened at a sister facility. The new. policy says that if an incident happens EVEN if nurse not in facility, that nurse will complete incident report the next day when staff report it to Her! Has anyone heard of something like This? I respectfully refused. Because I am the only nurse onsite, (adult day care) the director of the center was told she had to do it. Anybody know where I can get info regarding how potentially bad this policy is. Thanks
  6. Stick with it. Nursing is the best. Confidence will come. I remember being scared for the 1st year or two. Ambulatory care might be good or my specialty, developmental disabilitiies. It allows some hands on, some teaching. I also did staff development in LTC facilty, that allows for awide range of experiences. Please don't give Up!
  7. Excelsior College. I got my ASN there in 96. Check them out. They have excellent advisors and you can get your pre recs in a variety of ways. On site clinical reqired at one of several regional sites. The best thing I ever did. Good Luck!
  8. Nurse for 24 years, last 14 in DD worked in group homes, and currently am health coord. and QP for an adult day service. I have been certified as DDN since 2002. I would recommend joining the ddna. They are agreat source of info and networking. Most of us in this field know it can get pretty lonely out there. It is the best job I have ever had.
  9. DD nursing is Great! I have been certified as CDDN since2002. The ddna and the annual conference are awesome networking opportunities.
