  1. ";) i think its bc we like computer people more than real people hehehehe (i do anyway)" This is funny! hehe I agree.. I definitely have a comfort online that I dont always have in person, especially when Im in front of a bunch of people I dont really know!
  2. Im INFJ... my interests are all over the place right now, but a few are psych, anesthesia, ICU, oncology, nutrition, accupuncture... a little interesting that "I's" have responded first (=

    When can you shadow someone?

Yeah, very true, I've heard its pretty common for people to change their mind (sometimes several times) while going thru the process, so Im not fretting it... yet! DEFinitely keeping an open mind! With that said, I do think it would be extremely interesting and invaluable to shadow someone in the areas you might be interested in, at any point in the process, if you were given the opportunity or could GET the opportunity, like Pneumothorax did. That's awesome! I have a couple friends who are nurses, and a connection in anesthesia that might be able to help if it doesnt happen thru school. I should just ask. I was just curious to see if it was common procedure. Volunteering is a good idea! Thank you both for your responses!

    When can you shadow someone?

Can somebody fill me in on shadowing? I haven't started school yet (getting ready to start this semester) and I've already been asked by a couple people if I've shadowed anybody in the field yet, so, I'm, now, wondering how it works. I mean, if everybody did this as a means to help decide if a certain field was even right for them before starting school, wouldnt it be happening constantly, and be an encumberance or a "monkey on the back" of the medical industry? It's a risk on the hospitals behalf to be allowing "just anybody" to come in and have "a day in the life" experience, so there has to be more to it I'm thinking... Shadowing a CRNA, for example, seems so premature right now, but if it's my ultimate goal, it would be nice to know if I really am on the right track before I begin all my schooling. What kind of a referral would I need? Is it a "who you know" kind of thing, especially this early in the game? Should I even be shadowing right now?
  5. just curious to see the personality types alongside the specialty or type of nursing everyone is persuing, or is already doing.. istj, isfj, infj, intj, istp, isfp, infp, intp, estp, esfp, enfp, entp, estj, esfj, enfj, entj who's taken the myers briggs test? which one are you? what nursing degree do you have or are you going for?
  6. wow~ Everyone went above and beyond what I expected with this! Thank you so much for the extremely informative replies! It seems like online could go either way, huh? But, I guess it would be the same with an on-campus situation too. Outcomes are all very circumstantial and a lot of the time, it seems to boil down to the teacher and just how much we are willing to put into the experience. Having all this info though, really helps me to at least know what to expect and puts me more at ease. Im definitely looking forward to giving it a try now. I only have a few more posts until Ive earned my keep on this site, ha, so dont be surprised if you hear from me very soon...I may have more questions or comments! Thanks for making yourselves available, and the same goes in return. PM me~ I plan on being around for a few years!
  7. im new to college, and new to the online class thing... ive always envisioned it like a skype setup...but im beginning to think that's wrong.. im just wondering, do you basically just sign in and read your lectures, then take the tests on dates that are posted with no real interaction with the teacher or other students online? does it ever involve video presentations or live discussion via something like skype at any point? is there a way to know who else is taking the class with you, and are you able to contact your classmates in some way? or do you pretty much feel all alone? do you sign in at your leisure each day and do your lesson, or is there a set time to be online? if there is audio or video involved with lecture, are you able to listen to it over and over again, or are you limited to one time only, like it would be in a classroom? sorry for all the questions, just really curious... any insight would be so appreciated!
  8. totally with you sciencefan. Seems like there are a few loopholes to get thru on this site. Trying to post as much as possible now so that i can have access to pm's soon. Im definitely going to need it when I take my online course
  9. I know this reply is way late, but I just ran across this post, and just in case you or someone else still wants to know, I read another post on this site that was talking about how transcripts would not indicate the courses being online courses. I dont know this for sure, but this is what they said and what I read in the thread. They had taken courses via Edukan and knew firsthand it seemed.
