  1. The reading for this class does not address the pre-test At ALL!!! I HATE this class as well. This is an excellent example of the disaster that occures when you have people who write questions and don't base them on your cariculum material.
  2. In fact they did not! They where the first to speak up and even began training me to cover for days when they where the charge nurse. I received the highest complement any NYSE can pay another I was told "If I where a patient, you would be the nurse I want" Nursing is a labor of love and if your just in it for the money you will never last long.
  3. Obviously I did't realize that being a good nurse and trying to improve a bad situation would cost me my job! From what it sounds like, this conduct and behavior is common practice for administration. Lesson learned.... You may now continue with the bashing.
  4. Perhaps I should have allowed mistreatment and unsafe care to continue for a bit longer before trying to prevent another assault? It's not as though I expressed concerns they hadn't heard in fact, The RN's and LVN's attempted to gather the union reps for a meeting with HR. This was to discuss safety and ethics concurs. Fact of the matter is that I was NOT the only one who has expressed concerns or whom had been attacked. I don't know about anyone else but I certainly don't get paid enough for the privilege of going to work and being asulted. PERIOD! I have a child I have an obligation to come home to. Period! If you are a nurse whom chooses to take more patients than the State of CA deems is safe out of fear that you will be fired, (believing that management is going to protect you if something goes wrong) or conduct yourself in an unethical manner, then that is a decision you choose to make. I firmly believe in God and Karma. You get out of this world what you put in. While I did not look at going to work as if I was "going to war" I will say No GOOD General will ask his/her soldiers to do anything they wouldn't to themselves. ********* I would hope that every Nurse would practice in a manner that would be consistent with the care that he/she would want for their own Mother, Father, Brother, Sister, Child ********* I seems as though there are those whom would label me as silly or bash me for that. Go right on ahead. One day someone you love will be in a hospital with a nurse whom has to choose between doing what he/she feels is the best Nursing care for your loved one or "keeping his/her mouth shut" to avoid getting caught in the cross hairs. Sad Really
  5. "The reference was intended to point out that Hospitals seem to place more importance on reimbursement concerns than patient care. I did mention Medicare and Medical as well."
  6. No, because Wednesday - Saturday is one week and Sunday- Wednesday is a second week it's not technically considered overtime. Highly manipulative and Unsafe but as its not over 40 hrs for each week, they don't have to pay overtime.
  7. Out of everything, that's what you got out of that?
  8. Thank you colleenrn2b. I did. I'm not quite sure were you got that I'm blaming the president though? The reference was intended to point out that Hospitals seem to place more importance on reimbursement concerns than patient care. I did mention Medicare and Medical as well.
  9. Thank you for your input. Yes I was told it was full time and I was given a set schedule. I was told that if the set schedule needed to be changed that I would be notified in advance. Working a person 8 days straight wed-wed is just a way for administration to work a nurse into the ground without having to compensate them. Thank you for your input.
  10. Not to mention the personal liability I expose myself to when doing so.
  11. While I understand that your advise is to keep my mouth shut frankly, several patients and staff have been attacked, including myself. I would rather uphold my standards of nursing care than run the risk of having my license revoked because of an unfortunate incident that could have been avoided but, went unaddressed simply because I was to afraid to deliver the same care to a patient that I would expect for my friends or family. I find it verry telling that a Nure should be told to Keep her mouth shut as opposed to identify and attempting to resolve a dangerous situation. I guess with all of the Medicare Medical and Oboma care, we've reached a point where it's acceptable to forgo Patient Care?! Seem questionable to me.
  12. I need help please. Just not sure what to do now. Getting right to the particulars. I was working in a So Cal Hospital in a Psychiatric unit. I was assigned a set schedule. 1) I was suddenly assigned to work 8 days straight Wed - Wed (8 hour shifts / this schedule would also mean that I would be working overtime without getting paid for it.) I consulted my union rep. and at her advise requested my set schedule back. 2) After numerous AWOL's and patients attacking each other, I expressed concerns on patient care and patient safety when probed by my manager. Within 4 business days of these two incidence I was called in the office and told "You are not a good fit." "You did not pass probation." 3) Come to find out that there are people have expected for some time that the Union was in-bed with administration. The union rep stalled for almost two weeks before telling me that my start date was my hire date.....regardless of the date I had on the paperwork from HR stated. I have never received a complaint from anybody for any reason. After bringing to HR's attention that 90 calendar days from the "date of hire" had passed, HR stated they would get back to me after hearing the managers side of the story. After several days I am advised that my date of hire was not until my first day I hit the floor. They refuse to address the ethical issues or the fact that I have signed paperwork from HR which clearly states my date of hire as documented by the hiring HR representative. I was Fired because I was a good nurse and attempted to prevent further issues with patient safety. I was fired because I questioned why I was working 8 days straight. I was fired NOT because I was a poor nurse or because I lacked critical thinking skills, but because I was not a Quiet Nurse. I am just floored! I have a child to take care of and feel that he is now suffering for my decision to do the right thing. Should I really have to sacrifice patient care and POTENTIALLY MY LICENSE in order to provide for my child? Advice would be appreciated please. What are my options from here?
  13. There are no jobs. Period. It costs thousands of dollars to train a new grad. Hospitals are not willing to invest in new people, let alone new grads. It sucks. It's going to bite the health care system in the posterior later on but, there you have it.
  14. That's one reason why I'm doing this. New and Experienced, young and well seasoned Nurses are all having the same problem. I've seen older nurses complain that's it's Agisim and it's cheaper to hire new grads. I've seen new grads companies that it's because older nurses just won't retire. I've seen derogatory thing said from forgin Nurses about us Nurses and vice versa. It frustrates me to see a community of people whom normally have so much dignity be so down right hateful to each other. The fact is that there is NO nursing shortage and companies seem to deliberately treat nurses as an unlimited and disposable resource that they can pit against each other to minimize the mistreatment and devaluing of our profeshion.
  15. I received the call just tonight! The offer letter will be in Monday or Tuesday!:w00t::cheers:
  16. This is for Experienced Nurses and New Grads alike. I want to know how many of us out there are actually unemployed. Participation is appreciate:thankya: :w00t:
  17. I'm in the same boat. i even sent a Thank You e-mail and received a response back "My Pleasure" However, I have't received the call yet. How about you? Have you gotten the official word yet?
  18. There are people from 2008 whom never found a job. In fact, if you'r posting here then i'm sure you've noticed several posts from new grads over the years expressing their frustration. There are just NO jobs to be had in So Cal. There is NO nursing shortage. There IS however a job shortage that has been an issue for almost 5 years now. So much so that Nurses are even working for free now in "internships" just for the opportunity to get experience. BUT, the caveat to that is that unless the internship gives you a year of experience (thats right! A year working for free!) Then you are still not considered qualified because you don't have a year of experience. It's Quite a Racket. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I'm sure You'r wife has already discovered much of what iv'e mentioned in her quest for finding a position. I wish I had better news.
  19. I wonder when employers will be willing to Hire New grades if not, in about 10 years we will have an influx of New nurses with no experience and many errors from the lack of experience. But heck, for right now they are jumping through flamed hoops and willing to work for any amount offered (some for free even) in Southern CA. Why should we worry about that now! Right? Oh Yah, Because then WE will be their patience.
  20. I remember a time when AllNurses.com used to be full of posts from Employed Nurses whom where asking questions related to daily on the job duties. Now it would seem that the only posts I ever see are for Nurses looking for employment or Students looking for internships. Where have all the RN jobs gone and when did the Nursing profession become so desperately undervalued and unappreciated? I read a post just the other day in which a nurse with over 10 years of experience shared what she made hourly when she fist started. I was horrified to find out that it's approximately the same rate (if not a bit more) as Nurses start out making now!?! That is to say, if there lucky enough to find a job. Is there any relief in site? I hope and pray that this situation resolves itself with the next presidential election. Our profession is loosing some phenomenal nurses due to this "Low Ball Pay" and High Nurse to Patient ratio environment that this economy has created. I wonder what the future of medicine holds if it continues to turn it's back on Nurses?
  21. I know New grad RN'S in southern CA that aren't making 35/hr right now and thats talking about 3 different hospitals in So Cal. There aren't that many RN jobs out there right now and it would seem that employers are taking advantage of this and Low Balling wages because they have so many people to choose from. Sorry for the bad news. Wish it was be better.
  22. How do I get information on these programs? Where do I call?
  23. i have tried everything! snf, ltc, monitor tech, cna, everything!!! have my bls, acls, and pals. still nothing. i have looked in riverside, la, orange and everyehere in between as well. it is all in who you know. i've said it before and i'll say it again. this profession is turning it's back on some amazing nurses! even had a nurse manager tell me that "having your bls, acls, pals and phlebotomy is no big deal because all new grads seem to come with them now." sometimes i wonder if the marketing for nursing was the second biggest scam to the public (next to real-estate) i love this profession! i have worked hard to become a registered nurse. it just saddens me that the profession seems to have been devalued to this point. .
