  1. I have long hair (about shoulder length), side burns and a goatee... so far it hasnt really been a problem. There was one clinical (OB) where I had to pull my hair back in order to be in compliance with hospital policy. I would say in general that if your hair is off of your collar you should be OK. As for facial hair, just make sure it's neatly groomed before clinicals and you should be good.
  2. Johanne, I chose NEU because I liked the idea of having a portion of the program dedicated to working as an RN prior to starting the specialty track. I also appreciated that they don't require students to officially declare your specialty until a year into the program... although I know I want to do the psyc track, I'm not 100% sure on what population I want to work with. NEU also allowed for the option to going for a CNS or NP. And lastly, I had an overall good experience with the program director and the director of the psyc track. I hope you hear back from MGH soon!
  3. Hey Johanne - it's funny you asked me this today, because this morning I sent in my MGH letter withdrawing my acceptance. I had been sitting on the decision for a bit and went back and forth but decided on NEU. I applied for the child/adolescent psychiatric specialty. What about you? What school/track are you going for?
  4. PsychLisa- Where did you find the national and regional (New England) rankings? Thank you!
  5. HugANurse87- For me, some of the big draws to NEU's program is that they have a portion of the program thats dedicated to you working and getting experience as an RN prior to starting your specialty track; they also don't require you to select a specialty until a year or so into the program (which although I know I definitely want to do the psyc track, I'm not positive If I want to work with children or adults...I like having some time to figure that out); NEU also allows for the option of either CNS or NP in psyc (which from what I've seen, others schools don't offer); and lastly I've just had an overall good experience with the staff and current students that I've interacted with in the program. That being said though, I've heard really good things about MGH's program. And from what I understand, their program is a year shorter than NEU's, which is attractive to me. I know this probably sounds contradictory because the extra year at NEU is where you work for as an RN, but long story short, I already have a MA degree in another field so the faster I can get my career going, the better lol! Are you trying to decide between two programs? If so which ones? Do you have any pros/cons to add that I may be unaware of? Thanks!
  6. Congrats Choco! I'm going to wait until next week when I receive my official offer from MGH to see if by some chance I might get some scholarship $. If not though, I will probably end up going to Northeastern. What about you?
  7. Congrats Jennahbee! I got an email as well this afternoon with an acceptance into MGH. They said a formal letter would follow.
  8. Congrats Ringside2005 & hs2011! amalay - My interview was also on friday the 18th.
  9. Thanks jennahbee. I submitted my application in November and I had my interview last Friday. I hope you hear back soon!
  10. Thank you! Yea, I was shocked...the program director called at 8:15pm (EST). The number didn't look familiar on my caller ID but it was so late I didn't think it could possibly be a school. I was totally surprised.
  11. Just received an acceptance call for NEU direct entry!
  12. NurseGradHopeful - Congratulations! I was wondering if the email you received came from a "bc.edu" address, or was it something different? I'm paranoid and keep checking my spam folder...paranoid... but mostly hoping I'll be surprised and find something in there haha. Thanks!
  13. I just called MGH and asked when decisions would be going out and I was told that they would be sending them out the first week in March (through both e-mail and regular mail) I was really hoping to hear back sooner! Has anyone else heard differently?
  14. Choco80- Congratulations! Did the e-mail BC sent you tell you when you had to make a deposit by?
  15. Ringside- I missed my call too... they called back about 10 minutes later so hang in there! or keep calling :)
  16. NU just called, I have an interview scheduled for next Friday!
  17. Congrats NurseGrad and SaraNH!! From what I was told, interviews at NU were supposed to begin this week. I haven't heard anything on my end yet, has anyone else???
  18. Just called MGH school of nursing and they said we could expect to hear back the last week of February through the first week of March through both email and regular mail. Looks like we have a couple more weeks to go. The suspense is killing me.
  19. Just got off the phone with Boston College school of nursing. They told me that applicants will begin hearing back towards the end of February via e-mail.
  20. PsychLisa11: Good to hear about MGH. My top 2 choices would be MGH (because it's shorter and we get into the specialty portion quicker), and NU (because I think the co-op portion sounds awesome). I did my undergrad in Psychology and knew I either wanted to go into business or clinical. Unfortunately, I chose business and got a MA in Industrial Psychology. After working a few years "in the field" I knew I chose the wrong path. The money was good but I had no passion for it. So I decided to volunteer in some hospital/psyc settings to see if I still found it desirable. Turns out I really enjoyed it and wanted in. I originally was thinking of attempting med school and becoming a Psychiatrist but the numbers of years it would take along with hearing that theres more of an emphasis on prescribing and less on therapy was kind of a turn off. Then I heard about psychiatric mental health nursing. I couldn't believe it would allow you to have prescriptive privileges and the ability to practice psychotherapy. So I decided to go for it. How did you become interested?
  21. Hey everyone! I was stoked to find this thread in allnurses, but now I cant stop checking it every few hours to see if anyone has any updates lol. I applied to the direct entry programs at NU, MGH, and BC. I spoke with the program director at NU last week (Janet) and she told me that interviews would begin the first two weeks in February. I also called MGH and BC recently and was told that applicants should be hearing back in March. PsychLisa, I also applied for the child/adolescent psychiatric track. I've talked to a few of the students in the program at NU and they told me that psych is less competitive as some of the other tracks...hopefully this is good news for us! Good luck to everyone during these stressful times!
