I was a straight A student as well when taking my pre-reqs. Made it into the program and everything totally changed. Nursing exams are very different than any other exam you have ever taken before. I agree with the prior post.....it is alot of critical thinking and that will come with experience. Do alot of questions and definetly use the test success book as mentioned before and I also found the Fundamentals Success 2nd ed. by nugent and vitale helpful. I am in my 2nd semester of nursing. Last semester my avg at the end was a B-. This semester I got a 78 on the first test and the class avg. was a 73. Nursing is not easy, it is hard work....so stick with it. We have peer tutoring at my school....seek out any helpful resources and if you can get involved in a study group.....you will find your groove in what works for you. Don't give up...but I agree with the prior post...you have to develop some tough skin and definetly confidence. Think positive, work hard and achieve your goals;)

we are also required to read about 33 chapters in the fundamentals of nursing text......before we start the program. Advisors stated that those who don't read fall quickly behind and usually wind up failing out of the program....good luck...I didn't start my reading yet!

You have to do what is best for your situation, but if you are asking for my opinion you should go for the RN 2 year program. I think there is a big difference in what an RN and an LPN get paid. Correct me if I am wrong. Also, check to see if there is a waiting list in the school you are applying to. Good Luck in whatever you decide.

I got a federal pell grant and some other financial assistance from my college, which paid my 1st year in full. I attand a SUNY college, so tuition is not that high. Visit the financial aid office at your school, they might be able to help you out. Good luck.

I got married, got my bs in accounting , been a mom for the past 8 years and now I am attending a college in my area that has a RN Associates program. Applied for the fall RN program, but it is also very competitive. only 32 seats for the evening program. So, talk about career change...it is never too late. Do what your heart desires. As being finished when your in your mid 30's...ummm well I'm 35 and I probably will not finish until i'm 37 or 38. I see people from all walks of life applying for the program..older, younger and the same age as me! My advice, do your research to which school u want to attend, transfer your pre-req's and just look ahead to a bright future. IF you want it, you can acheive it with hard work and determination and patience. Good Luck to you(-:
