New Grad RN Positions in Las Vegas or Reno
i applied to the ttp during the last application period and was interviewed for er and icu. they prefer people who have tech or aide experience. also, they hired only 1 per unit and each unit interviewed around 15 applicants. the interview itself was pretty easy. good luck.

New Grad Pay Rates
As of February 2012, new grads get paid $21 at St. Vincent in Indy. I left after four months and I'm now getting paid $32 in Vegas as a new grad. I understand the cost of living is lower but that pay is ridiculous and the benefits weren't very good. Older nurses told me that they received a 2% raise last year. Umm, what am I gonna do with $0.42?

UCSD May 2012 New Graduate RN positions
got a rejection email for thornton ICU. it said i didn't have enough experience which i don't understand considering i completed a critical care RN residency, a critical care clinical rotation, and a preceptorship in the PICU. this is so frustrating. still holding out for the CVICU and CCU though.

UCSF NEW GRAD RN Training Program!! 2012
poll questions: - PICU training program - PICU preceptorship - May 2011 - 5 week critical care residency. at the end of the residency, there weren’t enough critical care positions available so i was offered a position in a head & neck progressive care unit instead. been working on the unit for almost 2 months. oh, and thanks for the advice. i don’t have internet explorer so i guess i’ll be finishing my app tomorrow instead. good luck everyone =)

Move out of CA?
i moved to las vegas after graduating with my bsn and it’s horrible out there for a new grad nurse who isn’t a local. i ended up getting hired in indianapolis. there are more jobs here and many different hospitals in the area who are willing to hire new grads.

I have a previous degree from Purdue so I thought relocating back to Indiana wouldn’t be too bad. I have no idea what certifications you need in med/surg but I would just get them now anyway just to set yourself apart. Also, what’s your email? I can send my stuff today if you need it. Let me know.

Thanks! I actually found a great apartment in Carmel. In all honesty, I’m not really sure how I got the job but I will tell you about myself. I got hired into the critical care residency. During my last semester of school, I was selected for a highly competitive 90-hour PICU preceptorship and also completed a critical care clinical rotation. I have a 3.84 nursing GPA and a cumulative GPA of 3.71. I have 5 great letters of recommendation from previous clinical instructors as well as PALS, ACLS, and EKG certifications. I got my resume professionally done and have a pretty good cover letter. Since I am from the west coast, I emphasized that I do have friends within the area and want to continue my nursing education at IUPUI. I also gave my interviewer a copy of my portfolio and sent a handwritten thank you card. I have no hospital experience and actually spelt the nursing manager’s name wrong on my thank you card but I was still hired so I guess it didn’t matter. LOL. I’ve gone on 7 interviews and this is the only place that offered me a position. I’m very excited because this is my dream job :) If you want, I can send you my resume and cover letter. Also, if you have any other questions, just let me know. It took me 8 months to find a job and I’m considered one of the top students in my class. Eventually you will find something as well. Good luck!

I interviewed for the Ronald Reagan PICU. It’s a screening interview with the director and one of the assistant directors. It’s pretty basic questions like why nursing and why the PICU? They’re very friendly. Good luck!
