Stony Brook Accelerated BSN class of 2013
Ditto! I am one of Paco's classmates and was waitlisted. I remember my heart sank when I saw that I had been waitlisted, but as Paco mentioned, the program accepted a number of people on the waitlist, even up until the week of orientation! Hang in there...there is still hope! :)

tomall - Thanks for the info! Congrats on your acceptance :) I heard back and found out that I am an alternate. I have accepted an admissions offer to another ABSN program though, so maybe that will give some hope to those of you who are alternates on this thread :) Best of luck to everyone! I know there have been some questions asked about the committee's decision timeline, so if it helps, here is how things progressed for me: 1/11 - Application received 1/24 - Application sent to committee 2/28 - Online admissions checklist changed to include "Accepted/Alternate List Applicant Checklist" items - there was no indication as to whether I was accepted or an alternate though 3/5 - Received alternate letter in mail - the letter was dated 2/25 and postmarked 3/1 Hope this helps those who are waiting...hang in there! Good luck to all of you on your journey towards becoming a nurse!

Paco - Thank you! I was ecstatic when I saw the change last night, but I didn't want to be too premature either. I can now say that it is for real! :) Wow, so you had a very quick acceptance for law school too! That's awesome. It is such a surreal feeling! I am so thankful. I saw you mentioned that you will be hearing back from the other accelerated program around March 15 - good luck! Wishing you all the best...please keep us posted! So don't lose hope if you found out you're on the alternate list! Best of luck to everyone! :)

Christine, I spoke to someone at the School of Nursing who said that they always call from the wait list, so there is definitely hope! I also recall going to an info session early last year during which admissions representatives said that they exhaust almost the entire alternate list every year, so I took that to mean that they call almost all the alternates? Sorry I don't know the exact stats or percentage or how they rank the list though...there is a School of Nursing info session coming up on Friday, March 25th, at 10am. Are you in the Stony Brook area? If you're around, it might be a good chance to ask questions! Good luck :)

Glad to hear you were spared last night! It sounds very frustrating and stressful to not be able to leave work at work, or I guess I should say at home? The monumental day will be here soon! Congrats on all the amazing changes you have made and are making in your life! :) A new journey awaits! Speaking of changes...a very strange (but exciting!) thing happened today. So I know I mentioned earlier this week that I had been waitlisted...nevertheless, I have still been checking SOLAR multiple times a day hoping for some kind of miracle. Lo and behold, I just checked again and the "I accept" and "I decline" buttons were there! I couldn't believe it - I am shocked beyond belief. I will definitely be calling the School of Nursing first thing tomorrow morning - I hope this is for real! So to those who are waiting, there is still hope! It sounds like they have not made all their decisions yet. Good luck to all! :)

Thanks for your well wishes! Yes, there is still hope :) I am definitely very grateful and am staying positive. I hope this message doesn't find you working and burning the midnight/early morning oil once again! One of my friends also spent a number of years working from home and is now transitioning into health care. I think that working from home became very isolating for him, especially since he is very much a people person! Anyway, your paradise is on the horizon! Good luck and keep us posted :)

Paco - It sounds like you are well on your way to making some amazing and meaningful changes in your life. Your current job sounds very disheartening...I always hear people say that you know when you've hit your ceiling at your job, but I know it can also be a challenge to figure out what's next and to take action. Kudos to you for maintaining a positive attitude as you transition into your new journey! Congrats on completing the CNA course and good luck on your upcoming exam. And good luck as you make your decision :) I hope everything works out...I think I speak on behalf of everyone here when I say that we wish you all the best. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear back! I found out that I am on the alternate list, so I will continue to await any news...

Hi again misStaken! I'm so glad that my reply helped to reassure you a bit! Yes, definitely try to call them...if you have trouble getting a hold of someone, I would be happy to stop by the School and ask since I pass by almost every day after classes/volunteering! Let me know. The staff assistant there is super nice and she knows her stuff, especially when it comes to all the pre-reqs. I hope the info I gave you is correct...I went to a handful of the info sessions and there were many, many questions about pre-reqs and what courses are acceptable. Overall, aside from the four other science pre-reqs that are set in stone, they seem pretty flexible about pre-reqs and they mainly look at the course designator in the course code to determine if the class is acceptable. Yeah maybe they did just overlook your bio course on your transcript...during the sessions, they stressed the fact that pre-reqs don't "expire," so it shouldn't matter that you took the course during your freshman year. I really hope that it was just an oversight like you said! And thanks so much for the well-wishes...I really hope I get in too! I am still anxiously waiting any changes on SOLAR...am trying my best to be patient :) Congrats again! Hope you are having a great weekend and finding some time to celebrate! :)

Hi misStaken, Firstly, congrats on your acceptance! I am not a current student in the program (I am a 2011 hopeful like many others on this thread), but I hope you don't mind my reading and replying to your question. I looked up some notes I took at information sessions held by SBU's School of Nursing and they said that for the 5th science pre-req, they will accept "any other science." They didn't indicate what level the science class had to be - the impression I got from them was that as long as the course had a science designator in the course code, such as BIO, CHE, etc., it will be accepted as the 5th science pre-req. Hope that helps a bit. I'm not sure why the 5th science pre-req shows up as pending in your SOLAR account though. Hopefully someone else on this board who is in the program can provide some further advice on this and on your question about finishing up pre-reqs the week before the program starts. Again, hope you don't mind my replying to your post even though it was not directed towards me! Congrats again! :)
