Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US
hi everybody.. im sorta new here.. this was my solace while i was going thru my emotional breakdown of passing that darn nclex.. nway, i passed already.. been a nurse for almost 2 years now.. but i just recently went back and read the forums here... this forum, and ms suzanne, is by far the best resource there is on the web! ok.. for my dumb question that has probably already been answered: my cousin passed her board exam in the philippines last july '05. she then took her ielts and passed that this year, i think... now, she wants to work in the hospital that i work in.. i still haven't asked HR if the hospital sponsors foreign nurses but i'm pretty sure they do. i was gona have her apply for licensure here in CA, but then after reading all the posts here, i'm having second thoughts.. all because of that darn SSN#. i know you will not have a hard copy of ur license but is that really necessary in order to process the green card? they give you ur RN#. (i mean, i was vacationing in the philippines when i found out i passed the test. all i did was look my name on the license verification site. no need to pay to see, in advanced, if you passed or not.) cuz if my cousin applies to the NY BON, she still has to be endorsed to CA. and CA requires the breakdown of education. OR maybe, she applies to NY, send the breakdown to CA BON already, so that when it is time to get the endorsement, everything will be in place... ? ms suzanne, am i making any sense? - send application for CVS, pay the fees, etc.. - send application to NY BON, pay the fees, etc.. (in the section where it says "intended state of practice," put NY and not CA?) - THEN send application for the VISA SCREEN? i have never dealt with immigration issues before.. thank u so much for all your help... we really need to be paying you for all your advice.. hehehe..

CA not a good place for a foreign grad?
i read in the international forum that you cannot "endorse." if you apply in CA and you dont have a ssn#. but what is the use of endorsing if you dont plan to work anywhere else other than ca? OR, not having a ssn# is gona delay the process of the green card..?

CA not a good place for a foreign grad?
My cousin passed the local board july 2004. I work here in CA and want her to come here too. I have to go to HR about this, but I believe they sponsor foreign nurses. nway, i went to school in the philippines but didn't have to go through all the hassles of immigration since i'm a citizen here. all i did was as soon as i graduated from college, i went back, studied for the nclex, applied, got delayed since i had to show them why i didnt have a license in the philippines, took the test and that's it. applied for a job in the hospital and the rest is history. for my cousin however, i got no clue. she told me she passed the ielts already. i keep insisting to her that she doesnt need the cgfns since california doesnt require it. she keeps insisting that she needs it to get an immigrant visa. i thought all she had to do was take an english profiency test, pass the nclex, get a visa screen and for me to find an employer to sponsor her. but we have another problem. california requires a social security number for its applicants.. CRAP! i so do not want to get a lawyer. but i think i might need to. any advice pls? :uhoh3::uhoh3::uhoh3::uhoh3::uhoh3::uhoh3:

Safe Pt Ratios for Med Surg
i work in a 48 bed med-surg unit, night shift. 7-730. We generally have a max of only 5 patients. Regardless if 2 or 3 are total care or if all 5 are fresh post-ops. Gone are the days when the census dips in the 20's. There are usually 7 RNs, 1 LVN, and 3 CNA's on most nights. Or we can have a mix of 5 RNs, 3 LVNs, and 2 aids... We are allowed self-scheduling so the nights are varied. The nights where there are alot of LVNs (licensed vocational nurse - i live in california), are tough. Our LVNs are responsible for their own patients, but of course we have to cover them too. I really hate it when their patients have alot of IV meds and piggybacks. But thank goodness our LVNs are seasoned nurses.. it's just the Registry nurses i'm venting about... Nways, when i started about a year ago, we had a 6:1 patient ratio. I'm really happy about this 5:1 thing, although some nights I feel like I have 20 patients... THEY NEVER SLEEP!!!!

wat's the difference between nursing education of US and PHilippines?
For me, the education here and back in the Philippines are comparable. It is basically up to you to learn as much as you can wherever you are. I finished my BSN in the Philippines and am now working in a hospital in my hometown. I was really scared at first because the hospitals in the Philippines where I did my clinical rotations were nowhere near as advanced as the hospitals here in the US. (I went to a university in the province where most of my relatives still live.) But you know what? I think I did pretty well. You know why? During your interview, let them know what your experiences are or lack thereof, and let them know that you are willing to learn. When they hire you, most hospitals will have a new grad orientation anyway. There you will learn what you didn't experience in the Philippines. For me, going back to the Philippines was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Upon graduating, I didn't have a student load I had to worry about. I had planned on going to UCLA to get my BSN. I had so much fun with the "hands-on experiences" that I had. You will never experience that here in the States. I cannot even count how many babies I have delivered here in this world while I was a student. Student nurses here in the states won't have that experience. They just get to watch. But if you are happy where you are at, then stay there. When I made the decision to go back for college, it was because I was impatient. I didn't want to wait that long just to get a BSN and I didn't want to pay that much. :)

the pressure is building and my gut knows it!
my stomach feels like somebody took a wisk and decided to make scrambled eggs! no matter what i ate today, my stomach would protest... i was wondering what that eri test is and where can i download that, too? i am an international student, graduated last year, but is just now taking the nclex.. i have been reviewing with the kaplan cd and so far my scores aren't nclex worthy! but i have read in here that that doesnt matter, wat matters is the application and analysis scores.. my scores there are in the 60th percentile.. im really nervous and scared about this whole nclex thing.. i know the passing percentage for foreign grads arent all that great... if somebody can please help me about that eri test thing, i would really appreciate it.. thank you!
