Call/e-mail Humber and ask them to send you the list with the books your program requires. Have you registered for orientation? Drop me a PM if you have any more concerns!

You need to call/email Humber or wait for orientation, Aug 31st (they will give you a list then) or check your SRS humber account, it may be already there. (it is there, you just need to check!!) My program may differ from yours, for ex. I'm taking English 106 but others take 104, so you need to buy specific books for each course. It is best if you contact the school (just my opinion) but before you do that, make sure you checked your SRS account.

Yes, CPR is required for paramed. It took me one month to get my appointment. Hope this helped! :)

YOU can do it! start completing your immunizations, apply for your police check asap!! ( may take up to 2 months if you live in Toronto but only 2 weeks if you live in the Peel area for example) !! and make sure you book the appointment with paramed. No need for ASIST yet so don't worry about it. Hope this helped :)

Yes, I will be there for orientation on Aug. 31st. ASIST was a great course held by Livingworks in Brampton but you only need the certificate in year 2 before your clinicals start..as far as I know... Humber has this course also but last time I checked all the spots were full so make sure you sign up as soon you can for the next one..

Thanks Studentnurse9 for all the insight, certainly all the info is greatly appreciated and helps a lot understanding the pain nursing students go through. I started doing a lot of research about the program after I got my acceptance for the RN program and to be honest I'm expecting difficult times ahead (just being realistic). Im 100% sure you will make a great nurse. Your study plans are great and looks like you're extremly organized. Here we both have a match. You're right about studying for the exams ahead of time (at least one week before) and I'm used to doing that since this is what I have been doing for the past year or so while in school taking prep couses. I think the prep courses will help me a lot, although all I studied was bio and chemistry but I have to say I love both subjects. (I know it's weird but I actually enjoyed chemistry) Time management is something that I'm used too. I was forced to learn how to divide my time to study and keep up with my family but I also had lot's of help.(talk about family support.... priceless). I tend to memorize a lot but I "dig" the subjects to the point where everyting must make sense. The amount of work-load you're describing is indeed overwhelming. Mid-terms and final exams are scarry on their own, never mind the 2 semester competency test and oh yes, the 20-26 papers you mentioned. How on earth can you come up with that many papers in such a short time? What scares me the most? PAPERS. Papers take me the longest. I can spend 8 hours writing an essay including research. (english is my second language) Putting the papers on the side, I think being positive is extremly important while in nursing school. Hang out with people that actually enjoy nursing school and you will learn to enjoy the program too. I enjoyed reading your post and I will retain a copy of it and will follow your advice diligently. If I'm not asking too much, perhaps you could let me know which text books I should buy? Thank you again for your post! Loved it!

Hi Studentnurse9, may I ask you what makes the nursing soooooooo difficult? Is it the hectic schedule, papers, or just the courses are intense in overall? I'm starting the nursing program this fall ( Humber ) and I'm so scared..I don't have friends in the nursing program but I hear many stories and some even say..the program makes them cry..LOL. My first choice was Humber and got accepted with an 97% average. Like you mentioned, the program is nothing like high-school and I guess that scares me the most. I did well in prep courses and thought the level of difficultie was OK but I can't imagine anything 10X harder. I mean how difficult chemistry and bio can get? I studied really-really hard to get a good average but totally left out social life and slept very little. It looks like I won't be getting any sleep while in school not to mention having a life. I'm not sure if I will be able to handle all the stress. How do you keep up with the program? I wish you all the best and good luck with your studies!

Thanks so much for the encouragement...it really helps ... what scares me the most at this point is if I will be able to survive first year of nursing school. It looks like most of the nursing students are going through major difficulties passing "those countless" exams, not to mention the clinicals and those loooooong papers....The word "paper" scares me the most. I'm more confident working with numbers rather than writing, which means I will be fine with chem and bio but perhaps will struggle writing all those papers. Currently my average is 98%, ( chem and bio), do you think I will be able to get at least a B in college? Why I'm asking you this is because I know college is a lot more different and the course levels (4U) I'm about to finish are way too easy for me right now but what should I expect in nursing school, what level of difficultie? And how many papers/week? (mind you, it takes me a good couple of hours to write an essay and hence I will have less time to study for my other courses). I know all it takes to pass is a C but will that get me a nursing degree?

I will have to look into CPR courses in my area and get it done asap but I'm still taking some courses (chem and bio) so I'm left with little extra time, but the CPR course is on my priority list and also getting all my shots done for paramed. ( takes soooo long)And down to the finances, June is the "payment" month, am I right? That being said, looks like the fees are due for the first two semesters?

KateWindsor, where did you get your CPR certification from? I see Humber has the course but I know you can get it done someplace else for cheaper, any suggestions? thanks so much!

Thanks for letting us know about the police check, I know it's long process to get it done. Perhaps you could let us know if we need a letter from Humber to hand in with our application or should we just let TO police know for what reason we need the form and they will know? Thanks in advance, you have no idea how much you helped some already desperate, future nursing students. Ouch.

Hi KateWindsor! I just received an offer from Humber BSCN program and I'm about to hit the BIG accept button myself, I AM SO EXCITED! Humber was my first choice and I'm so happy I got accepted!..and CONGRATS to you getting in, you must be excited just as I am! I heard so many good things about Humber that I'm not even intrested to go anywhere else for Nursing. Now I found myself having so many questions, I don't even know where to start. To my knowledge we have to take the CPR course and obtain a police record before September 2011? It looks like to obtain the police record there is a four month waiting period? I know this is silly, but have you done any off these since you accepted the offer? Should I just go to Humber and ask a million questions? Any advice is much appreciated and can't wait to actually meet you ON THE SITE! CONGRATS AGAIN!
