I spend about 15 hours in the car per week commuting back and fourth to school. I HATE it, but don't really have any better options at this point. Some of the things I have done to make it easier are using my time in the car to study. I listen to lectures, and record myself reading over my notes and listen to them also. Doing this has helped make HUGE improvements in my grades, plus I don't feel so stressed when I finally get home!

LOVE your response! I am a student in an ADN program, so I hear nothing but negative comments about care plans all day! I am definitely the black sheep of my class because I LOVE care plans!!! I think they are an amazing resource for the student to utilize (that is if the student takes the time to construct it properly). I also like how you mentioned that care plans are a good way for the instructor to see what the students are up too without looking over their shoulder constantly. I noticed this in the clinical setting last term. The students who copied their care plans directly out of the book, and put zero time and effort into them, were the students that the instructor was babysitting. Care plans are critical in any nursing program....learn how to do them properly and your lives will be much easier....!!!!

I agree with both of you 100%...I plan on getting experience while I am completing my masters. I am planning on it taking me awhile to finish. Teaching is a long term goal for me!

Hello I am a current nursing student in an ADN program. I always thought I wanted to work in Pediatrics or a NICU. Last term an instructor planted the idea of becoming nursing faculty in my head. I had never imagined that I would want to become a teacher, but the more I thought about it the more I realized that I really wanted to do it. I started to notice myself helping other students on things like the head to toe assessment, and studying for finals. I even noticed a change in the way I interacted with others in the clinical setting. I have heard that there are RN to MSN programs and that is what I am planning on right now. Does anybody have any advice?

I always knew that I wanted to be a nurse, but life just kept getting in the way. After i graduated from High School I went to college...but then my boyfriend proposed so I moved in with him and got married. He was in the Military, so we moved away from home at 18 yrs old. I kept telling myself that I could go to school wherever we ended up. Well that never happened because sleeping all day and drinking all night seemed like a better idea to my very immature self. A few years later we had our first son, and moved to a new town. At this point I had decided that I would go back to school when my son started Kindergarten. It was not the best plan, but it worked. 18 months after the birth of my first son came the birth of my second son. We could not have been happier...or so I thought. 3 months later my husband of 8 years called me and said that he could not handle the pressure of being a father and a husband anymore. I was completely devastated... and didn't know what to do. My first thought was that I had to go to school. So I did! Being a mother has taught me many lessons...some were good, and some were bad! But in the end being a mother has made me a better person! I know now that I will be a great nurse someday, because I work hard, believe in myself, and have the best motivation in the world...My BOYS!

Anytime I had a problem she was there to help! I will be starting my second term in a few weeks. While I am excited, I am also a little sad because I will only have one class with this instructor. I have been thinking about asking her to be my mentor, but I am not sure if this is appropriate since she is still a teacher. Does anybody have any advise?
