CCBC - N/W Fall 2012 Applicants
Not a dumb question- tons of info coming your way and lots to digest. The ATI fee is for books and testing fees. You will take online ATI tests every semester in the campus lab. You use those books to study and then your online ATI account (from the TEAS) will have practice tests when the time comes.Hang on to your login info-you will need it.

Thanks sleepingbeauty. I think the module had an error in it. I found a really helpful registration supervisor who took care of it for me so I am now registered for the second session Dosage. I don't want to take the June class I because I am enrolled in Nutrition and it is taking up all my time! It is a really cool class but now wish I had a break. A cookout sounds great...so nice to offer to coordinate. Also, there is the Facebook page that was started for the E/W class of 2013. I would put the link in but I am at work and cannot get to it here! Guess they don't trust us! See you on Thursday!

Mine is Thursday...looking forward to being in the know for once! Question about dosage. I am having trouble registering for the web based dosage course CRN 60626 -keep getting error message about course status being "out of range for term". That's the only one I can do because of the evening test times. Anyone else get this and solve the problem? Thanks! I emailed records and registration and am waiting for a response.

WOW- they actually called you back? I called two people there to find out when orientation is and cannot get a response I even said they did not have to talk about my status..just when it would be IF a person were to get in. I have a trip scheduled in June and cannot make the final payment until I know. very frustrating. if I didn't return phone calls at work I would be fired.

I have not had anything posted to my account yet. As to Corrines' statement about the TEAS exam, I did buy the online TEAS exams and found them very useful and eye opening. I highly recommend them. I think they really helped my placement. I actually did better on the real exam than on the online practice exams but they definitely helped. For the topics where I was weak I went to Khanacademy.org and refreshed in the weak areas. Anyhow, just my two cents.

For what it is worth......I called today. A message says the letters will go out 5/18 and we should call the office next week if we have questions.

I will definitely check out the facebook page. I never have used it... I always just thought people should pick up the phone and call. BUT- that is a great idea for the nursing program. Thanks so much for being pro-active!

So happy! SIMON says Accepted! (Essex/Evening) Was worried because I am still in Micro and A&P II and everyone said it wouldn't happen....you just never know. Congrats to everyone who got in! My heart is still racing.

Yeah I also wish there were other programs. I know CCBC is a good program but being the only (local) game in town isn't healthy competition. So strange that they want more nurses and career changers but don't make it accessible. I cannot afford to quit my job and go to day school, as I am sure this is the same for many on this board.

Wow- I am sorry to hear those things about Gwen. I had a really good experience meeting with her. She met with my husband and I when i was trying to figure out where/how to attend nursing school and she was really informative and helpful. They also worked thru some odd transcripts to transfer in some classes. Funny about people having dreams of getting accepted....wish I had a dream like that!

kjh- thanks for that post about your aunt. that is pretty interesting. i have met lots of "mature" nurses and it seems like people are staying healthier and working well into the later years of their life (whether they want to or not!). that is why i am doing nursing- to always have good work to do and not work in a cubicle, no matter where i end up. i am a bit older, but not so much as your aunt. i have been really fortunate to have a posse of women in my pre-reqs that are also a bit older so never felt out of place. although i must say the younger students have been really friendly- i think it is just not an odd thing anymore to be in classes with older folk. wasn't always the case.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post that information. it is nice to hear from someone already in the program who is willing to give good advice. It is always so strange to hear about a tight job market for nurses when all you hear about is the nursing shortage. I come from a family of nurses who have fortunately been gainfully employed, but have suffered though some shortage times by beiung overworked and underpaid. Sounds fun, eh? I hear what you are saying about needing a BSN. If someone in Maryland offers an evening BSN program that does not require prior patient experience or an RN, I would jump on it. No such luck yet. I am a career changer but not yet willling to give up the good day job in such a market. An online program for my initial training seemed the wrong route to take, I prefer to study with others face to face....at least initially. I guess there is not a lot of demand yet, or the costs are prohibitive for an evening/weekend BSN. Wonder if anyone else out there would have tried such a program? Anyhow. Thanks again- we love to hear good advice from current students!

I know..that is why I was so confused when some (including mine) said late May and some others said Mid May. Not that my wondering or worrying is going to speed up the response..but nice to have a forum to whine about it!

Woohoo...finally got my pink card...but it said I would hear in LATE MAY. Very odd. Could they be waiting for my Spring grades for pre-reqs in Micro and A&P II? I guess I should just sit back and not try to second guess.

Thanks for that post about your pink card Gaelros. It tells me when I can expect mine. I applied late Feb. Misstekaboo- Congrats and Good Luck! That is really great. It must feel so good to have an acceptance in hand. I hope to feel that way soon too! The weekend call must have been a bit out of the blue. But if CCBC calls me at 3AM on a Sunday morning- I will answer!

500??! Oh well...guess I can think about Plan B now! Oh that's right..there is no Plan B! That's a lot of applicants. Is Gaelros' point possible-that the 500 is for all programs combined? I really hope so. Even so you have to figure that at least a third of applicants have no chance but just throw the application in anyway; some have other first choices, so it narrows it down a bit. (Ok so that really doesn't make me feel better either). I still have not received my pink card and I submitted my app in mid-Februrary. Anyone else in the same boat? I do not have a 4.0, but TEAS was good. I went to an undergrad school years ago that experimented with intermediate grades (A, A/B, B, B/C etc..) so if you received an A/B, it transfers as a B, even though the original grade was really a low A. ...that does not help my GPA. Very frustrating. My current pre-reqs are all A's but they won't, unfortunately, see the grades from this semester, so I am really not sure where I stand overall. I really wish I could concentrate on something other than waiting for my acceptance/rejection notice. Mid-May is sooooo very far away.

I hear ya'. I have called over there a few times for different things. I wonder if they get sick of us calling?! It must be crazy this time of year for them as well, but 8 weeks feel like forever for us. I would be pretty disappointed if I didn't get in, but not devastated. I am still taking my A&P II and Micro so that may be to my disadvantage, even though I am working on A's in both. I have not taken any courses at CCBC ( it sounds like they get some priority), so maybe I am not at the top of the list. I did well on TEAS, but that is only part of it. Oh well...lots to consider and ya' just never know how they will look at the cohort. I am applying to the evening/weekend program so don't have a lot of choices in Maryland (although CCBC has a good rep so I am pretty fortunate).
