I applied to become a nurse in the AF last year, and the process was soooo long, and in the end, I didn't even get in. I have heard that it is easier to get in as a nurse in the Army. There are pro's and con's to each. DEpends how picky you are.

I agree, sounds like you really like this place, the people, the manager. And if it is what you love doing, then you should go for it. I also agree with a few other about really determining your long-term goals... if you plan on moving further in your career, eventually you'll need some type of critical care experience or experience other than OB. Don't stress about being able to find a job though, as a new graduate I easily found an ICU job. Best of luck to you!

I'm currently in my 5th week of orientation in a trauma ICU. I LOVE it!! It is very challenging, but I agree, make sure you get trained well!!! I ask hundreds of questions every day. I carry a notebook and write down the essentials (for example: things to do/know for an ischemic stroke, how to zero an a-line, what the diff vent setting mean). We get a lot of MVC pts, neuro - stroke, DKA, respiratory failure, some cardiac - but typically it is in conjunction with something else. A-lines, vents, ventriculostomies (

I recently heard that selections were going to be very slim this year. (I am also waiting to find out this month). I spoke with the Chief Nurse of a base I live near; who said that she heard in a meeting this past week that the Air Force nurse percentage is currently 110%. She said the AF has taken in too many nurses the past 2-5 years. Has anyone heard anything similar? Good luck to everyone! :)

Could anyone tell me how much experience is required in order to be apply to the AF as an experience RN? Thanks!

I have also heard that we will find out end of April; and that COT would be sometime next year (2012). I would recommend getting some experience while waiting, since it sounds like it could be awhile! Facebook also has a page for Air Force Nurse Corps, might be helpful.
