  1. Hi Bluesky, What did you find out about the credit check? Is California still doing it? Thanks.
  2. Just a thought on the question, "why would working here be any different?", would it help to divert your answer into all the great qualities that the hospital you are applying to possesses? Reading up on the awards and recognition that the hospital gives to their employees may be helpful. I guess what I'm trying to say is when they ask about your reasons for leaving the past environment wouldn't it help your cause not to dwell on that part, but what the new hospital has to offer. I agree with the above poster on keeping the specifics very general. I believe that when you get your references checked that it is unlawful for human resources to give out more information more than your wage, your rehire status, and the amount of time you worked in a position. I may be wrong.
  3. Filled out and hoping for a positive change!
  4. In a similar boat here, I graduated in May, licensed in June, and have been trying in earnest to get a job since July. I sought volunteer work at the hospital I wanted to work in, in the unit that I was interested in. I only was able to start a couple of weeks ago. In that short amount of time I have come across about 5 nurses that I know from other jobs we have had together. They heard my plight and have spoke to the department management on my behalf (I didn't ask). No job yet, but I haven't gone into the office to talk with them. I want to be sure that I am interview ready. Good luck with the search, I'm in the deferment process as well. You are not alone!
  5. This is definitely a problem that many are facing. You'll find a lot of creative alternatives as you start applying and getting rejection letters. The schools that I was applying to and not making the cut only selected 30 people once a year. I wanted to be done with nursing school by the time I was 40, so I looked into larger cities about 2 hours away and started to take their prerequisites. I was very fortunate that the schools that I applied to had just changed their selection process and it narrowed the random selection field down substantially. Got in first try. Don't throw in the towel just yet, just be open to other options that may present themselves! I felt the same way about the 4.0 people who lived at home and didn't have to work, and I also respect those hard workers that were able to pull the 4.0's, but it was frustrating when you have a 3.7 gpa and you still were not chosen for school. Good luck with whatever you decide!
  6. I was bummed I couldn't afford a review class, I figured "let's just see". I used the Davis's Q and A NCLEX book and CD, I went over a lot of questions in one week before my test. I passed the test with 75 questions, plenty of SATA and prioritizations. I think going through test questions and reading their rationales and learning how to pick out what the question is asking for is the key to passing the test. Good luck!
  7. I took my test on May 23rd, our transcripts were sent in the week following my test and I only saw my name on the CA BON on June 15th. If you live in Sacramento you can hand deliver your transcripts, which some in my class did. They had their name on the BON site about two weeks before me. Like the first poster said, probably 2-3 weeks.
  8. Yes sorry, that was when my name went up, I am still waiting for my license, hopefully tomorrow! :)
  9. Hi noboundary, Congrats on the good pop up! I took the NCLEX on May 23rd and finally received my name on the CA BON on the 15th. So a little over three weeks of waiting in agony. Some in my class hand delivered their transcripts and found out about 2 weeks before me. Because all of California is graduating in May it may take a while for the BON to process all of the applications and get those licenses out. Hope you get your license soon!
  10. I took the test today, had 75 questions and got the good pop up. I had a ton of SATA, conference, no EKG, a few lab questions, and a few regular multiple choice. Good luck everyone, I just used the Davis NCLEX book and CD to prep, it seemed to have worked!
  11. May 3, 2013!! So excited to have my life back, scared to be let loose on the floor! :)
  12. We heard back from them about three weeks after the application period ended, no promises, and good luck!
  13. Interesting.. That would probably be the most accurate then.
  14. I noticed e services didn't have a separate application for the extended campus, they did last time. I talked to our coordinator and asked if there will be a new group starting in the fall and she said there will be. I would just call the campus and ask, they must be doing something different this time around. Good luck!
  15. Orientation was mind blowing, lots of information in short amount of time! It was great though plenty of answers to questions. I believe that the CPR needs to be done by Nov. 28th, but not positive. Maybe gratefulme knows?! I already had mine, so I wasn't paying too much attention.
  16. Congratulations! You definitely deserve getting in! Did you just find out? Good luck!
  17. I hear ya! I would be into it if I was closer, I am in Truckee now and will be moving down there when we start. I hope somebody responds, I don't think being too organized is a bad thing, especially considering what we are in for! See you on the 21st!
  18. Hi and congratulations on getting in! I will be joining you and 53? other students this semester! I would love to do a meet and greet with other students, but I am trying to finish off my current semester and work on all our enrollment requirements! I will definitely be ready to form a study group, maybe we can figure it out at orientation, if not then, than for sure during the first week of school. I have a feeling we will see who we best study with once we get going! Looking forward to meeting you and everybody else, I am so happy for us all!
  19. I just got back from picking it up! Only a few things to take care of on the checklist, ha-ha! Let the games begin! See you at orientation, my name is Andrea. :)
  20. I saw that there were flashcards for Sutter med. term on one of these threads, also quite a bit of info about what to expect going into the program. I was hoping to start working on dosage calculations, math is definitely something I need to knock the cobwebs off of! In addition to the start date, I am wondering how we are signing up for classes, if at all?! A million questions!
  21. Have you started yet or are you in the spring? Did you find a place to stay in Reno (hopefully?) I have in laws to stay with in Sac, so that will help. We are probably commuting about the same distance, hope you have safe travels!
  22. Hey Saundee, It was pretty much the Nevada residency requirement, CNA, and medical term. that has changed. I probably wouldn't have been in the running until 2013! But I just found out on Friday that I was accepted into an accelerated program in Sacramento! So phew, I will no longer have to chase the requirements around for the TMCC program! I do wish I could be closer to home, but whatever it takes to get through right?! Thanks for the response!
  23. Same here, was hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. Then wham! I am in three classes right now, so I know how the overwhelmed feeling goes! What are you going to be reviewing?
  24. Congratulations bec! I can't pick up my packet until Wednesday, do you mind a preview of what I should bring or expect after you are done picking up your packet?! (Like when orientation is, etc.) I am very excited and look forward to our crazy 16 months we have coming!
  25. Hey Bio, Any news about spring yet?
