  1. My friend worked at a facility during school and they also used medication techs on all med passes and they made mistakes all the time. During shift change on one particular evening the daytime med tech had not finished med pass but failed to make that clear to the night med tech. Over half of the patients did not receive their afternoon meds and they were filling out stacks of incident reports. I asked who's license they were actually working under and the girl wasn't sure but thought they worked under a staff RN on the day shifts license. YYYIIIKKKKEEESSSSS!!!!! They would often times disregard the times indicated on the mar for administration times and adjusted it to what they thought worked better for the patient. These were not PRN drugs. I know the training was very limited and it was a simple lack of education on the techs part but could not imagine why the facility would leave themselves open to such a huge risk or why an RN would let someone pass meds under their license if they are not present.

4horsiz what kind of medication did you take? I am understand it that you must work for a 12 month period continuously for 64 hours a month to complete the program. I received a book that listed medications that were safe and ones that would result in a positive reading. There are no promises that the list is all inclusive. I have actually never worked as a nurse and had to complete the program as a condition of my declaratory order. I know it will be an uphill battle to find a job but according to previous posts LTC sounds like the best option while on the program. I wish all participants good luck! I have been sober for many years now and felt a little like I was starting at the bottom of the mountain yet again. Like I will never escape my past mistakes but that has passed since I got the first few AA meetings out of the way. In fact it made me remember just how far I have come!!!!! I'll let you know how I feel again after I have been turned down ten or so times. I hope I can remain positive!

Txrn- Thanks! I will do exactly what they tell me when they tell me! I know it sounds silly but I have been worried about the hairspray thing more than anything! LOL! It's the little things that worry me.

Can anyone that has participated in tpapn please, please, please tell me if I need to stop using hairspray, any kind of nail polish or use remover, perfume....let's see...tell me about anything you can think of outside of the obvious (mouthwash, poppy seeds, cough meds) that may give a positive result. I am just beginning the program and want to avoid any silly mistakes! Thanks in advance!!!!
  5. I received the call from the hospital at about 2300 from my Mother. My Father had had a massive heart attack and I better get to the hospital as he wasn't expected to last the night . I went immediately but refused to go into the room. I was much younger and was just not ready to face this situation at all!! I come from a large family and each sibling took their turn and even two and my Mother gently told me that I must go in. My Father loved Marty Robbins and CMT had first started airing videos. Much to my surprise "Big Iron" by Marty Robbins was actually on and I leaned close to kiss my Father's cheek and said, "Oh Daddy you love this song!" I was upset because his body was moving as if he where trying to run in the bed and asked the Doctor what was going on. He told me that his body was fighting to stay alive. I hugged and kissed him and told him he should go and he died within a few minutes. To this day I feel bad because I made him wait on me.
  6. Thanks anyway txspadequeenRN there are many people that read every single post on TPAPN and need up to date information!
  7. I filed a Declaratory Order with the TX BON in February 2010 and did not receive my clearance until December 2010. The charges were a DWI in 1993 and a returned check in 1996. It is difficult to wonder each day if you are going to be cleared and I got more than a few gray hairs during that time! Patience and positive thinking is your best bet ; ) Good Luck to everyone in this situation! Jen
