first cna job was horrible
I have a very similiar situation like this at my job...some of the co-workers act just as nasty and WILL TRY TO GET U FIRED! ive been hanging in for 10months so far for the experience and the sweet residents we have and im currently in nursing school..I do truly believe that it isn't like this everywhere..might try home health when i finish school or maybe be a corrections nurse..I refuse to take the harassment now at work and that is the easiest way for them to get IGNORED! lol ..wish u nothing but goodluck

CNA's: Whats the worst thing you've seen your Nurse do?
LOL these are all somewhat funny. I know a nurse at my faciliy who works nights (11-7) comes in hair sticking straight up on her head..scrubs look like they have PRESSED WRINKLES on them and after doing her report with 3-11 nurses she goes in the medical supply room and sleeps until a little after 5am and starts her med pass && to top it off she doesn't bother putting out a vital sign sheet for the cnas. *Nurse of the Year*

Nitpicking
I promise this is my life lol..when i first started working as a nurse assistant this used to fry my nerves..theres always going to be ATLEAST one cna who does this && is going to check under the residents bed and look in the closets and OPEN the residents brief..ask unirrelevant questions..this is 15% the reason why im in nursing school. Kudos.

Should I become a CNA at 19 (pre-nursing student)?
If u believe in it go for it:yeah:..I was 18 when i became a cna just had graduated highschool..now im 19 2nd semester of Nursing school && really loving it..will be 20 when i graduated and gonna' work myself to the top! you can do it! && find out if your state lets you challenge the cna exam..Here in Florida i challenged it & only payed $100 for a week worth of clinicals..got hired a month later..anythings possible

Has anyone taken their CNA skills exam in Florida?
I challenged the exam in St Augustine Florida..it was a WHOLE lot different than i expected..the clincal room we tested in looked identical to the clinical room i did my clinicals in & also i would recommend taking a refresher course (around $50) it goes through ALL 21 skills. Remember your basics (Privacy,Call Bell, Patient is safe,Wash hands....) && you should be fine an if you make a mistake call it out & say "oops..i have to provide privacy" & she/he shouldnt mark off for it :).. I had to perform : Change of Position, Respiration & Pulse and Hair & Nail Care. When we 1st walked in the room i volunteered to play the patient so the other people had to go 1st(so i got to watch them & make sure i didnt miss anything) :) & as far as the written exam goes just try & focus on the patients rights and youll do fine. GOODLUCKK && HOPE THIS HELPS :) :) :)

CNA or Med Aide while in LVN school??
Im currently working as a cna part-time & full time lpn student..cna certifcation is already a little extra avantage(med experience) i wouldnt waste the money getting certified for the medications because youll learn all the meds youll be using while in nursing school. Of course if u just want to have that extra certification while in school but i think it doesnt make too much difference since youll already be a cna & getting medical experience either way :):) hope this helps :)

If a resident is an evening shower do you get them up?
In this situation at my facility if that resident has a shower on the next shift we dry the resitdent and leave them in bed & when the next shift comes they'll transfer the resident into a shower chair. We do it this way because we don't know exactly what time the next shift will give that resident a shower so we let the resident rest until the next shift arrives.

Which shift do you prefer-LTC
I currently work night shift(11pm-7am) theres alot of work involved every shift but to me night shift is more slowed down & not as fast paced. You have more than enough time to do vitals, pass ice,do haircair in the morning..etc marjority of the residents are asleep at this time(less call bells ringing). If you want something more Fast-Paced I would definately say 7am-3pm shift is the one. If you are just starting out in my opinion this is a very hard shift & confusing the whole shift your on the move, its harder to find help with residents and at my facility short-staffed. The middle shift (3pm-11pm) I would say is like a medium and is good for starting out or training. If i were to choose the best to start out I would say 3-11 or 11-7. You have more time to learn and get to know residents & plus my facility pays more for those who work evenings & nights. Hope this helps & Goodluck:):):)

Has anyone taken TEAS 2nd time and was successful?
I just took mine again 4days ago & Passed will be starting Practical Nursing in 2weeks!! I studied for about 2weeks & what REALLY helped me was when I went on here & went to the section that talks about (Teas Test Tips in the Pre-Nursing Student Section) I read about 200 Posts & i wrote down everything different ppl said to study on and what they remembered because I couldn't remember from when i first tested & It helped ALOT! Hope this helps you & Good Luck!!!:):[anb]::lvan:

I took my Exam here in Fl and I had to introduce myself to the patient (My name & title) and tell them what i was going to do & then ask would it be ok?..after they say "yes" Wash my hands and get my supplies. I was told to always explain what your going to do 1st an ask them would that be ok because thats proctection of their rights. -Hope this helps :o

I am taking the CNA state exam on July 11th.
Here in FL when i took my CNA exam the other people who were testing were my patients and the testing site looked exactly like the school site where i was trained so it helped relaxed me. I stated out loud all the main things like "and here's your call-bell Mr.Smith" and "I'll be right back, gonna wash my hands". My duties were: Hair & Nail Care, Change of Position and Pulse and Respiration. It turned out to be very easy and I volunteered to be the patient 1st so i wouldn't forget a thing! Goodluck :anpom:

Does anyone know anything about Virginia College's ADN Peogram?
From what i researched it seems that the only school here in Florida that would be able to transfer Virginia College's credits is to The Univer$ity Of Phoenix $$$. The only good thing about VC's ADN program is that it includes the General Ed courses with it. I was loving everything about this school at first, but not so sure now. Insight anyone? Anything helps??? Thanks, Desperate Cna & Future RN:)

Can't get hired as a CNA!!
Definately keep your head up!!:o I had applied to about 100 places(clinics/offices/Ltc/hospitals) before i landed a job as a CNA. My best advice would be shoot for the nursing homes 1st, they are always in demand and majority except no previous CNA experience and will train you. Ive been working long term care 4months now & we are always hiring. GoodLuck & Keep going!!
