Ok, what's the real deal with new grads?
Well I already read your original response. You took it down as I was replying to it. I really was not insinuating that all nurses without jobs are morons. I was just asking a simple question. Had I made a statement it would have been rude most definitely. I asked a question that was twisted by everyone into being a statement. My question was blown out of proportion. I'll have to keep these sort of questions to myself in the future. I'm not trying to make nurses angry. I look up to anyone who is a nurse. Anyways, I think this thread has been exhausted so I'll just end it here.

Ok, what's the real deal with new grads?
I know right. I've gotten more traffic here than all of my past posts combined! Yea I figured that much. I'm not sure what I was looking for here. I think this post was an epic fail lol

Ok, what's the real deal with new grads?
I am aware of the situation but thanks for the refresher.

Ok, what's the real deal with new grads?
Okay everybody, incase you didn't catch it the first time: I APOLOGIZE for using the word moron and sounding mean. That was not my intent. Obviously it takes a very intelligent person to make it through nursing school. No more attitude lectures. Thank you.

Ok, what's the real deal with new grads?
I am aware of these things. I was in no way calling all new grads morons. I was just saying that there were some in the bunch. Actually I wasn't even saying it, I was just asking about it. Anyhow, I guess I will have to be more careful about how I word things. I didn't mean for this to get so crazy. I was told by a good family friend and retired nurse that nursing made her tough and I was going to have to toughen up to deal with the job. Either I need to tone it down or people need to take her advice.

Ok, what's the real deal with new grads?
Haha thanks a bunch. I was thinking about becoming a CNA before I even started with my prereqs and nursing but an advisor told me that if I really wanted to become a nurse then I should just get a move on it. I will definitely try to volunteer or get a secretary job somewhere. I was actually looking into that this morning. I really appreciate your advice. :)

Well it looks like you did take the time to leave an answer.

Ok, what's the real deal with new grads?
Look, I am just a very realistic person. I have been dying to become a nurse for God knows how long. When I come across people that are looking to get into nursing but are doing it for all of the wrong reasons I just want to give them a reality check. There are so many people in my classes who are doing nursing because it's a fast path to a good career or because they just got laid off from their job and heard that their are tons of nursing jobs. But I guess I can't worry about these people. At least I know what's going on. I know myself and what I am capable of. I will be the person that spends hours upon hours hunting for a job. And you better believe that I won't be waiting until the very last minute to start working on it. I just wanted to be reassured that those who perceiver eventually find success. It really is a let down to come on here and find day after day that new grads can't find a job. It sucks and I don't want to be in that position.

Ok, what's the real deal with new grads?
Fair enough. You're right. I knew my wording was going to turn this thread into a heated discussion after I posted it. But thank you for actually responding to my question. I am honestly a very nice person. I get along with everyone and I do feel for the people that come on here venting about their unsuccessful job search. It is obviously a touchy subject hence all of the negative responses I have received. It was an honest question that i've had for a while. I really could not help but wonder if there were some not so intelligent people posting on here that were giving me a not realistic picture of the new grad job market. So I have been corrected about my way of thinking. Thanks all and I do apologize to those who were so easily offended.

Ok, what's the real deal with new grads?
I have to search for new grad success stories whereas the unfortunate stories tend to be on the front page. There is nothing wrong with questioning the job market even though I am still taking prereqs. I wouldn't want all of my A's to go to waste 2 years down the road when I find that there are no jobs.

Ok, what's the real deal with new grads?
I don't think I'd go into a job interview talking about all of the morons in the world. Let's be real... I'm not a moron! haha

Ok, what's the real deal with new grads?
Thank you for your reply. I obviously didn't want answers from the people I was demeaning. I wanted answers from intelligent nurses.

Ok, what's the real deal with new grads?
Well it's the honest truth. People don't need to get their panties in a bunch about it!

Ok, what's the real deal with new grads?
Would you say that the majority of new grads stay unemployed for a while? What was your experience with your graduating class? Did most people eventually find work like you did? Were you and your classmates active about finding a job before graduation? When I said morons I meant people who think that the work is just going to come to them and then wonder why things are not working out when they don't have a job. And maybe some of these people are being too picky about the type of work that is available to new grads. I'm all for taking whatever is available until I have gained enough experience to move into a better position.

Ok, what's the real deal with new grads?
I'm not calling everyone here morons. I'm just wondering if the majority of people here venting about being unemployed are maybe not as motivated or smart or whatever you want to call it as those who do easily find employment. Do most new grads find work but we just don't hear about it? What's wrong with asking an honest question. There has got to be other people here that think what I'm thinking right?

Ok, what's the real deal with new grads?
I'm not trying to offend anyone or be ignorant by what I am about to ask so everyone calm down. But is it really absolutely ridiculously impossible to find a job as a new grad or does it just seem that way on this website because all the morons come here to vent? I am completely aware of the economic situation blah blah so I don't need a lecture on that. I know plenty of people who have graduated from nursing school in the past few years and are employed. I am finishing up my prereqs now and plan to start nursing school soon. The more I read about new grads not finding jobs the more I start to get freaked out about the investment I am making. Are there some EMPLOYED nurses on here who can give their honest opinions? Right now I am starting to think that I am freaking out for no reason. I know that I am capable at succeeding especially when I see how many idiots I am surrounded by in my classes. I just want some realistic input from competent people who understand what i'm asking.

Barry University
Transferlh, I am in a similar situation as you. I am graduating in a few weeks with a degree in English. I have applied to Barry but still have some prerequisites to do. I have already completed some of them b/c I was on a nursing track my freshman year before I switched to English. Anyways, how many of your prerequisites did you have completed when Barry accepted you into the nursing program? I have gotten into Barry as a pre-nursing student but not a nursing student yet. I'd love to hear back from you. Thanks :)

Chemistry or statistics in first semester of adn?
I am NOT a math person. I'm taking stats right now and got 34 out of 35 on the first exam. It's easy.

Johns Hopkins acceptance?
Thank you so much for your response! I am trying to narrow down my top 2 choices so that I can fulfill the necessary prereqs. It is so stressful trying to decide which is the best route to go. I'd love to consider a community college for the sake of the price but it's out of the question because I want to go straight for my BSN. Have you done any hospital volunteer work or anything like that to give yourself an edge? I haven't but now I am wondering if I should.

Johns Hopkins acceptance?
Hi, Can anyone tell me a little bit about John's Hopkins nursing programs in regards to how difficult it is to get in. I've heard people compare it to ivy leagues so that is why I am asking. I am graduating in May with a bachelors degree in English. I plan on going to a community college for my nursing prereqs and then applying to schools in the Baltimore/ DC area. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Scholars programs?
Thank you... I'll check it out!

Scholars programs?
I haven't started applying to nursing schools yet because I am still doing prereqs but I am trying to narrow down my top choices. Are there any nursing schools in Maryland (preferably closer to Baltimore or DC) that have some sort of scholars program... where they pay for most of your education and guarantee a job after you graduate? Can you arrange something with a hospital before you graduate? I'm not sure how everything works. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Barry University offering BSN prg. on Baptist Hosptial site in Kendall, FL
I posted a question yesterday asking about the job market because I have the same concern as you. I'm scared I won't find a job after all of my hard work in nursing school. Someone suggested that I call all of the hospitals in the area I plan on working and ask them how many new graduates they have hired in the past year. That way you'll get a good idea of what your chances are at finding a job... if you don't get the Baptist scholarship

Miami nursing schools?
Thank you for you response! Yea, Miami Dade is a community college. The cost of the program is so affordable and I think that's part of the reason for its popularity. I heard from an insider that the nursing class isn't even all that great this year. I'd love to go to Barry or UM. I'm just trying to explore all of my options right now.

Help! I want to be a nurse
Thanks for the advice! I will definitely contact all of the hospitals and see what they say.
