  1. I too am enrolled in the on-line WOCN program at Emory. Its fantastic if you can not be on site for 12 weeks. I also plan to complete the clincal rotations on-site this fall. Good luck!! The program (and the field) is AMAZING!
  2. Nurselacey, Good for you for entering in to a wonderfully rewarding field. There are many ways to enter in the the role of Wound Care Nurse/WOCN. Here's my story: I became a member of a unit based skin care team in 2008 (Gradunated with ADSN in 2006), Applied and got an opening in the wound care department of the same hopsital the same year, trained by AMAZING wound care team (Both WOCN and PT's) for 2 yrs, went to the WCC course and compelted it in 2010, Completed by BSN in Dec 2011 (moved away and worked in trauma as there was no wound care openings near by new home), currently at Emory for WOCN && a Wound care nurse for a mid-sized hospital since April. Your best bet, since your almost done with your BSN, is to attend a WOCN course and soak up all the knowledge you can. I was blessed with experience before certification, but so many do it by going to school first. I can say, you'll never regret a day of it!! Good luck!!
  3. Neuro/Tele is a HARD unit. I have since left DMC to move out of the area. The nurses are good but the floor is really hard and busy. Good Luck!!
  4. I currently work in Trauma t Delray Medical Center. I LOVE IT HERE!! The Docs are great, our ARNP is amazing, and the people are family! I am sorry to say I am leaving to move out of the area. Its not a perfect job, there are some hard days. Staffing issues happen and, of course, budget and management issues are the same everywhere. But, the people in this department are one of a kind and I would recommend Trauma ICU/Step-down to anyone!! Good luck!!
  5. Moving back to Rockledge (just wouth of Cocoa Beach) from Boca Raton after a year down here. The area is beautful, kind of laid back and realxed. I worked for Health First-Holmes Regional last time I was there and I will be working for Wuesthoff Rockledge this time mainly due to salary and postition offering. Good luck!!
  6. I've been a nurse about 5 yrs, so I didn't start the program. HR took forever to get me an interview but I was offered the job right after my interview. Everyone seems great and there's been tons of improvements over the last 5-6 yrs. The CNO is awesome and loves her nurses. I found there to be a communication issue with HR and everyone else. I called weekly for 3 wks.
  7. I am in my second day of orientation, too the test yesterday. Med test isn't bad. Bring a drug guide and calculator, study what sites they provide and you'll be fine! Good luck!!!
  8. I am moving to Boca next month, Have an interview in 3 days and Delray.... A little scared! I hear the Trauma ICU/PCU is ok, anyone know for sure? Also, what about Boca Cummunity? Someone I work with said North Broward was a great place... I have experience, so I just need a good place to work thats safe with good pay.... Does that even exist anymore?
  9. Hey, how's Delray Beach Medical Center? I applied and hope to the Trauma Step Down. I have 4+ yrs experience and current wk at a Trauma Hospital. I've heard mixed reviews. Hows the pay? What are the ratios? What should I be concerned about? Any better Hopsitals in Boca?
  10. I am moving from Malboune to Boca in Decemeber and applied to Delray Beach. I work at Holmes Regional in the Surgical/Trauma PCU and LOVE IT! I applied to the Trauma step-down and waiting for an interview appointment. I am a little nervous bc I've read all these horrible things. Any recent comments? Anyone know about the Truama unit? Or any other suggestions? I have 4 1/2 yrs experience and Wound Care Certification/Sharp Debridement certification.
