  1. Hey ladies any new halloween cost stories. I love reading what the nurses posted the previous year. Thanks you
  2. Yes bob you are right on that... But if she is trying to communicate and he still does not want to listen, picks little fights to make her feel even worse about the situation than she has to stand up for herself and not accept that treatment. She is trying to complete a very rigourus program and she may be better off without him for the moment. Besides man don't listen with words they listen with actions. The last resort would be to take a break so she can focus on herself not the relationship that's affecting her school work. Keep working hard and don't let any distractions come in your way. You are going to be a wonderful nurse! I can already tell how caring you are by your post. Keep your mind focus on the prize. Speak with him about how it is affecting you and your school work. If he is still pushing for attention you need to think for yourself and your success and do what is best for you. You are going to do great.
  3. I say DON'T GIVE UP You came a looooooooong way, you are such a strong woman for getting through nursing school even thou you have so many barriers. You should stand loud and proud that you are doing it on your own.. This proves you don't need anyone in your life to accomplish things. Trust me .. No one needs anyone either. You are cabaple of being an RN and so much more. If you give up now you WILL regret it later. Do what ever it takes to graduate and pass the NCLEX. What ever it takes. Find that motivation to not give up. Once you have your RN you can decide what path to take. You are so close to the prize. When your graduation comes and you pass the aisle with your white uniform you will be so proud of your self. You will be a new and better YOU. It is not about becoming an RN either; it is about accomplishing goals that you start. Even if you have doubts, you should finish what you started because it says a lot about your character. Daughtersofzion doesn't give up, she works hards, commits and accomplishes. Remember it's about your self confidence so keep pushing yourself. Forget about your preceptor, she puts that pressure on students so she can help weed out the weak links. You are NOT a weak link. Yes it's unfair, life is unfair but you are lucky to have the opportunity. Prove to her and your professor, the students in your class and your co workers but most importantly to yourself that you CAN DO IT! Watch this motto video and maybe it will fill some inner strength. It's about achieving success. Listen closely to the message. I hope you like it.
  4. Hey girl. I feel for you. " Btwn work, school, clinicals and home, I feel like maybe I'm not cut out for this....if I can't take care of and be sympathetic towards someone I love so much, can I really like be like that towards patients" DO NOT correlate how wonderful you are to the way you treat your bf and patients. It is completely irrelevant. Being a nursing student is hard work and it requires a strong support system even if it's just your SO. He should be treating you like the queen you deserve to be. I am serious you deserve better than that. The only way to adjust that is by respecting your priorities and setting your standards with him. He should know and feel that you can live without him. You are a happy woman and if he brings you down you should kick him to the curb. Love and fear come from the same part of the brain and maybe he is just too comfortable in the relationship. Please for yourself, not for your family or him FINISH nursing school. You can regret being with him later. Your degree will make you stand loud and proud. One more thing if there is any book that will help you with this. TRUST ME buy it or borrow it. Your percpective on him will change "Why men love *******" by sherry argov. TRUST ME it's all the advice you need. It's the best book I invested in when it came to relationships. Look it up on amazon. :) Good luck and keep your head high
  5. I did not read much of this forum, but i am very glad I found it. This has been on my mind for soooo long. I think it depends on what kind of nurse you are. I wonder which are the "happy" nurses. We have one life to live. One precious life. I always wonder when I turn 50 or 60 how I would feel about my accomplishments. Would I feel happy that I pursued nursing. Did I make a difference in the world? Not only on the patients that I would help but also on my family. I am having a hard time figuring out if nursing is for me. The negative comments that i read, see and hear about nursing is not helping. Just recently I spoke with a girl in my physiology class and I asked her why she chose nursing. She looked at me waved her head and said she will NEVER do nursing. She said she is taking her pre reqs to become a physician assistant. I asked her why not nursing , and she said that she has seen first hand how nurses get treated. She said she does not want to put up with the way they are treated by doctors and patients. Plus they get paid less and they do all the "dirty" work. She also said that through being a PA she can go to medical school much easier than a nurse. I simply looked at her and said that it is great she is doing what is best for her. Hopefully my mind and my heart makes a choice soon. I don't want to make any more mistakes. Thanks for reading ladies.
  6. No some nursing programs require you to take the HESI like LIU. Some nursing schools you need to take the NLN-RN such as CUNY schools. Some require the TEAS entrance exam like Aldephi.
  7. To be honest, from the responds I have read on the Fall 2011 application your GPA will only get you so far. I read posts on people with a 4.0 GPA not getting accepted into the program. I think they are looking for individuals that care about the community by demonstrating leadership qualities and volunteer/ work experience. These qualities should also be shown in a committed amount of time. Maybe a year or more. I don't understand how adcoms accept their students, but doing the best that you can do with your time will hopefully work towards your goal. I decided I am going to aim for fall 2012. It will not hurt me at all if don't apply. I am almost done with my Pre-reqs this semester anyway. If anyone would care to join and tell us how your application is going so far it would be very encouraging. Thank you all!
  8. Thanks paco!!! I was just looking at the application web site. It is very competitive but if I apply I may have a chance. Looking thru your forum it seems like it can be anybody. Thanks a lot I hope to write to you in future for any help. Good luck
  9. I cant believe I finished reading all 203 pages. Took me about 5 months. Cant wait to hear more stories.
  10. Around 3.6 gpa. They dont like to see repeated courses.
  11. So it is the end of the semester and i finish taking my anatomy final. My grades did improve a lot from last semester. Not golden but fair 92,78,100,78,85,90 Now i am waiting on my final lab and departmental exam grades. I feel so LOW. Is nursing even for me, I feel that i did not do as well as i hoped to do on my final. Now i am going to have to wait and see what big chunk of grade will be reduced. Common at least a "C". I can just imagine taking physiology. Hoping to hear kind words, I already heard " Maybe you have a learning disability... blah blah".... I don't so do not waste your time putting me more down. Thank you guys .
  12. Thank you so much kjm84. I was thinking of doing that. Hopefully i get in Stony Brook 2012 program but i really don't mind getting a Bachelor's degree in health science. Thanks for your input.
  13. Hi... Any one out there has any advice?
  14. Good morning ladies and gentelmen, My ultimate goal is to get into Stony Brook University school of nursing :redbeathe. So congradulations to all of you that have been accepted for fall 2011! I have a question for those who have gotten accepted for fall 2011, future Stony Brook applicants or simply any one who has an opinion toward my career path. I attend a cuny and I am looking to apply for SBU 2012, by that time I would have completed everything except micro. The admission commitee will not see my grades for that final semester. I failed anatomy and I feel like that will be another reason to disqualify me. So this are my choices. A) If I get lucky I would get accepted for fall 2012.. Yay no worries :) B) If I do not get accepted, I would be done by spring 2012 with all my pre-reqs completed to attend SB, plus an associated of science in science. This means I will apply for SBU 2013 class. The admission committee will have the additional spring 2012 semester to review plus fall 2012 courses. For fall 2012, I plan to transfer to hunter college and go under the general biology degree, so when I apply again to SBU fall 2013 nursing class I will have science courses taken at hunter college that can possibly make up for the failed anatomy class. All goes to plan I get accepted into SBU 2013 nursing program :) C) again, if I do not get accepted my other option is instead of going to hunter college and taking biology classes, I would transfer fall 2012 to Stony Brook University and work on my bachelor science degree in health science. ( Has any one taken this degree in SBU? ) and still apply for SBU fall 2013 nusing class. Or... D) Complete my bachelor of health science at Stony Brook University, ace this degree and apply to SBU school of nursing( I have read of students who got accepted with this degree into SB school of nursing.) Thank you so much, any insight would be taking into consideration. I really want to attend Stony Brook University school of nursing. Thanks for taking the time to read my post I look forward to your replies. Is anyone out there looking to apply for SBU fall 2012 class?
  15. moocow1213, so did you apply to the program while you were a student in stony brook university? Do you think that made a difference that you got good grades in pharmacology. How long did it take you to complete all that and get into their nursing program? Thank you so much for your response :)
  16. No, i am not or else i probely would not have started this thread. jejeje I am Hispanic/ Latina.
  17. Why don't you work in phelobotomy they make more money than CNA's. It is very admirable that you do all that and still go to school to get your degree. You are definitely a super women. :bowingpur
  18. Blacks/African Americans are 15.9% of the New York State Population But... ...in the Health Professions Workforce in New York State: Only 5% of Physicians are Black/African American Only 5% of Physician Assistants are Black/African American Only 8.9% of Registered Nurses are Black/African American Only 2% of Dentists are Black/African American Hispanics/Latinos are 15.1% of the New York State Population But... ...in the Health Professions Workforce in New York State: Only 4% of Physicians are Hispanic/Latino Only 5% of Physician Assistants are Hispanic/Latino Only 2.2% of Registered Nurses are Hispanic/Latino Only 4% of Dentists are Hispanic/Latino Data source: Health Resources and Services Administration, This is a real shocker as minorities we need to represent, become role models and increase the number of helath care professionals from under represented groups.:redbeathe
  19. Wow Paco69> THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have two internships in an emergency room and another around NYC plus i have been volunteering since January. I cant wait i don't see myself in any other place but STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY. The thing is that i already messed up in my anatomy class and got a D+ now i am re taking it pretty sure i will get an A. After i apply i will already have my associates in biology. I will be taking upper level bio classes and i hope to get A's as well. My question is that do they acknowledge these courses even though they are not part of their curriculum. They are still biology classes so i hope they do. I can not wait, all this hard work i am putting out write now is simply for SBU. Thank you for being so helpful and congrats on pursing your degree here in New York (best decision Ever!!) :yelclap:
  20. Hi ladies and gentlemen!! First off congratulations to everyone! I 'am a 2012 hopeful. I am finishing up my Pre-reqs for stony brook. If you ladies and gentleman care to share with me what you think made you stand out as an applicant. Stony Brook receives thousands of applications and they only pick 60 that is just really intense.:vlin:. also do you think it matter what school you come from from? For those of you have gotten accepted what do you believe made the admission board say "WOW" we want her/him! Thanks guys:redbeathe
  21. while you are it you should learn french as well. :)
  22. Hey paco i have a question i am not sure if you have posted this before but i am intrested to know were you are from. :) You are a male and you are so lively so in love with nursing. I am just curious
  23. you are completely right. I think it is important to know at least a second language if you are going into nursing. The reason being that the majority of population in NYC are minorities coming from underserved areas and one out of four new yorkers dont have health insurance so they need to be seen by doctors and nurses. Bellevue has a free clinic that sees people without health insurance and the majority of the popullation that comes in are hispanic so i think you are right. Speaking spanish is definitly a plus.
  24. took phlebotomy course in Manhattan institute .... SAVE YOUR MONEY... go to the allen school
  25. yes it seems confusing make sure you have all the questions written down before you see your advisor. It all depend what biology sequence you are taking. I am in the 251 route. 251 represents anatomy 252 physiology and 261 microbiology. i am not sure how the 150 sequence works. All i can say is if you are going to take a class in the summer it will be chemistry and physiology take chem in the first session and physiology (A&PII) in the second half. Than you have all semester to worry about microbiology.
