I plan to take 3-5 years off before going back for an MSN. But when the student loan payments begin, I may decide to defer by going back sooner lol.

Thanks :) I remember when you finished, tokmom. It seemed so far off for me, and here I am now. What a relief it is!

It's been awhile since I have checked in. I turned in my final Capstone paper today. I have one peer response left but I'm debating even doing it lol. I'm done, done, done. I also started a new job last week. I really like it so far, and it's still in mental health. I just moved from a inpatient psych unit at a large hospital to a small inpatient publicly funded/county unit. Better schedule and better pay. I will take some time tonight to read through the past few months of posts!

I went ahead and messaged both the Prof and a Librarian. Too much work for 10 points!

It really is a ridiculous assignment. Another one with vague instructions and the information needed for the assignment is not in the reading material. And yes, it is only worth 10 points.

In Spirituality: the personhood chart, I'm not understanding what the Materialism column is about. Any help?

It is such a mess. More and more people are openly complaining about the TA's grading. Some of it is grading on grammatical opinion/preference, rather than correct structure. Some corrections are just incorrect. Like the TA told me that the title on the first page, above the introduction, should be bold. It should not for correct APA. I cut and pasted the case scenario from the assignment and added it to an appendix. The TA even made a correction on that lol. Stating that requesting to initiate treatment should be with the parents, not from the parent. Huh? Since when do the parents work side by side with the docs and nurses? If anyone starts a class and sees it has a TA, get the heck out of that class right away!!!

What is it about student teachers having something to prove, being super nit-picky, and grading harshly??? Half my class is up in arms over this TA and the grading, and one person even laid it all out in the class forum lol.

I relate - I graduated 12/13 with my ADN, passed the NCLEX 2/14, started GCU 3/14, and started my first RN job 4/14. I also struggled with grades in my first two classes, and then realized I had crappy instructors that had high expectations and graded harshly. I was considering dropping from GCU because of it. But since I have made a huge point of getting instructor referrals for all classes, and so far that has been working. I have found the requirements and grading more reasonable. But it is the pace that is hard, I'm a single mom with 4 kids in grade/middle school. I have no family locally, and my kid's father is not local as well. I'm overwhelmed! I'm going to stick it out a little longer with GCU and just work less, I'll see how long I can stay afloat financially. I will probably be reconsidering and revising my plan many times before I complete the program. Hang in there. My advice, choose the path of least resistance and then find peace with your decision.

derkfamily - If I remember correctly, by answering each point in the rubric it will add up quickly enough.

Thanks for the insight everyone. I may put off taking a hiatus after all. My work schedule is 5 nights on (8 hour shifts), 9 nights off. I usually pick-up on those 9 off so I'm not so financially tight. I'm now thinking about just sucking it up, taking all 9 off and being frugal for the next 9 months. Then I'm thinking I should have the time to devote to school without feeling so burnt out.

For those that pay out of pocket, how does it work as far as how often you need to take classes to be considered maintaining enrollment? I'm considering quitting the financial aid aspect and paying as I go instead. Most likely it would require me saving up for 3 months and then taking a class, than saving up again. I wonder if GCU would accept enrollment like that. Plus I'm thinking that would drop me below half time and I would have to start paying back my current student loans, while saving up for my next class. Something I would need to take into consideration. This idea is so appealing to me because I am beyond burnt out and totally miserable right now. I've been in school close to or at full time for over 5 years straight. Taking a few months off, then taking a class, then taking a few more off sounds so enjoyable, and l think i would enjoy the classes more. Right now I'm just going through the motions to complete the work, but I'm completely uninterested in all of the classes and material. I would rather take 2 years to finish my last 6 classes and enjoy life, than get it done in a year and be hating life.

Speaking of rubrics, is there an easy way to print them out? I have been cutting and pasting them, which really sucks.

Yes, and they never go away. It's frustrating.

I have to say when I am looking for easy instructors I am looking for ones that are more lax with their DQ requirements. I still put in 100% effort on my weekly papers and assignments, probably way more than I need to. It's having to write another papers worth for each and DQ, and then being paranoid if my responses are substantial enough for an ultra picky instructor that never wants to be clear on what they actually want. That is over the top stress that I want to avoid. My instructor now is an easy grader on DQs, he said he wants to see an effort from us and grades on that, not on how thorough the content is.

Sounds like your take on you being the guinea pig for a new counselor is dead on. Sorry you got stuck with a crappy one. Hopefully you will be able to switch quickly.

There are no cheat sheets circulating. One of the tips being offered is to use the Thinking Storm tutors offered through GCU. The link is on the main page when you are logged into my portal. Each student if given 10 hours free, after that it is up to you. I'm finishing up week 4 of stats and I've used under 5 hours so far. The other tip is to ask around for recommendations for a good instructor. Some of them are known to have video tutorials to help walk you through part of the weekly assignments.

I'm probably one of the cohorts not getting it. Although my grade does not reflect my confusion, becasue I have learned how to work the system and utilize my resources lol. Tutors are wonderful. I'm sure if I had an extra 10-20 hours a week I would thoroughly understand it. Good luck with Spirituality :)

pinkpetunia, I'm confused, you say you can choose, then you report you can't, now you say again you can choose your counselor. ???? I apologize that I don't reply to you very often, but personally I often have a hard time following what you are conveying. So rather than confusing the situation more with my possibly incorrect interpretation, I just stay out of it. It seems to me that GCU would let you change counselors in order to keep your enrollment active. If you explain that you will choose another school if you can't change, that may help. Are you asking to speak to the superior/manager of your counselor?

I really like my adviser, but I was impatient when I called him the other day and pressed the option to speak with another adviser for immediate assistance. Turned out the other adviser was more helpful than my regular adviser usually is when I ask to switch classes. You may think about speaking with another one if you get impatient as well :)

Well since we're going with a "F" name theme, I was thinking the name Flip was pretty cool. Then I realized naming my transportation down a canyon, Flip, was probably not a good idea.
